Fuzzle Spirits: Part One by chimesjon | |
Zack had his eyes moving from side to side, gazing with interest at the Neomail
that was sent to him. His pen pal, Hilaia, a young Kacheek, lived in the far
eastern parts of Neopia. What gave Zack a shock of excitement was that King,
his owner, made the final decision to take another expedition to the exact area
where Hilaia lived. The excitement continuously invading Zack's mind came to
a complete stop when he "accidentally" turned his head in the direction of his
clock. It marked 11:20 P.M. He knew that if he didn't sleep then, he wouldn't
be able to be as active for the expedition.
What really worried him was why she didn't respond in a week until now. He
thought hard in his mind, tapping his pen onto his head to come up with something
to write in a response to Hilaia's last Neomail. Before Zack could write a letter
to return his mail, he realised what he was missing: a paper. He took out a
new sheet of paper from his notepad and jotted down what he would say.
Dear
Hilaia,
It's
Zack again. King (my owner) made the decision to visit where you are.
I'm EXTREMELY eager to see you, and I hope we might get there in time.
What time is it over there? Last time we made a mistake with the time
in the Haunted Woods and Mystery Island... shouldn't have disturbed the
Coconut Tribes. Anyway, see ya soon.
Your
pen pal,
Zack

He took yet another glance at his note, and nodded his head with satisfaction.
But suddenly, his new Doglefox, Amy, sprang out from under his bed and sank
her teeth onto the letter Zack had finished. "AMY! THAT'S ANOTHER PetPet TREAT
LESS FOR YOU!" He paused. "Oh... I forgot you never ate the PetPet Treats anyway...
just give it back, girl." It was too late. Amy had torn up the letter to shreds,
wagging her tail affectionately. Zack sighed, grabbed his pen, and rewrote the
letter. He smiled at Amy, saying, "Can't believe you still remember my curfew."
The Neopian Airport...
The next day, it was around six o' clock in the morning. Zack, still sleepy,
was slightly relieved that Joey and Sen, his two best friends, were sleeping
soundly (for once). As for Amy, she rested safely inside Zack's black backpack.
King was unbelievably wide awake. The pilot, a muffled Skeith-sized figure in
sunglasses simply nodded as a quick and simple sign of saying "hi." For a while,
Zack thought the large, towering figure was a bit familiar, but shook his head
to knock some sense into him.
The pilot led them to a rather enormous helicopter. When everyone was finally
seated, the pilot amazingly carried every single bag, including Sen's. Sen's
luggage was filled COMPLETELY of his addictive treat, Fudgy Delights. When the
pilot sat down in his seat, his mumbled behind his scarf, "Taking off now."
At that point, the helicopter took off, soon leaving the airport.
Two hours later...
Zack and everybody else were all active and were no longer asleep. Zack crouched
down in a corner of the helicopter. He began to wonder if his last letter ever
made it to Hilaia. It wasn't that he didn't have any faith in the reliability
of Neomail, but Hilaia seemed to be a type of Kacheek who woke up and was mostly
about communication. The very first letters of their acquaintance started as
a school event. Now that the whole pen pal activity had ended a while ago, they
somehow kept the roles as being pen pals as well as a sort of mystery friend.
Joey and Sen, bored with riding the noisy helicopter, noticed the pilot wasn't
much of an expert. Actually, it seemed a bit more like the mysterious pilot
was failing a flying test. When they had passed a small canyon during their
trip, the pilot made a turn too sharp when he attempted to avoid crashing a
cliff that King was forced out of his seat. Zack couldn't figure who the pilot
was, since there was no sign of showing his identity. It was till he overheard
him singing a song that made Zack realise who he was. But he didn't tell anyone
the identity until the trip was over.
At last, the annoying sound of an accelerating helicopter finally came to
a complete stop. Joey stretched out his arms (if Jubjubs had any) to relax.
Sen quickly made a speeding dash to his luggage, opening it furiously and pulling
out a box of Fudgy Delights. Zack was the last one who get off, with Amy still
inside his backpack. But before leaving, he said to the pilot, "Take off the
scarf, Eddie. It's not much of cold weather around here."
The pilot removed his thick scarf and took off his goggles as well as everything
else that hid his face. It was Eddie, a Frost Beast. "Um... Eddie, how exactly
did you ever impersonate a pilot?" Eddie held his left arm to his chin to think.
There was a sudden flashback appearing in his mind. In it, he saw a speckled
Lenny tied up and seeing himself saying, "This is WAY against my will." The
flashback disappeared, and all the large beast could say was, "A little birdy
told me how to..."
Zack heaved a deep sigh with a bit of ridicule from the sarcasm. Before any
sound of words could come out of his mouth, Eddie beat him to it. "Anyway, I'm
gonna see what it's like with the villagers here. Hear they got some ceremony
going on around here."
At the last words of his sentence, Eddie sped off into the village, putting
on a green Skeith costume. "Great... just because I meet a Frost
Beast, it's NOT my fault that he was encouraged by me to meet more Neopians
that FEAR him!" Joey and Sen had gone off with King for once, thinking there
was more adventure with King in this expedition than Zack's search his mystery
pen pal. Zack hoped that Hilaia had received his letter, since he and his best
friends had finally reached where the Kacheek lived with her family. But the
only problem was... HOW was he supposed to find Hilaia throughout the whole
village?
Just then, he noticed two stout Wockys putting up a banner. It was taped on
one side of a house, while another house held the other side of the banner.
It was the strangest thing Zack had ever seen on a banner. The Spirits' Return
Ceremony tonight! It was just great. King found what he was to do his documentary
on, but all Zack had was the knowledge of a creepy ceremony. All of a sudden,
a Neomail letter flew straight out of a window from a small house. The envelope
sped so fast that it scraped a bit of another house wall. Then... it sped directly
at Zack. He caught it just in time in his mouth; just close enough to stop it
from its fast, rushing speed. It was addressed to him from Hilaia. Zack's eyes
bulged with ridicule. He had been looking for someone who was right next to
him.
But to a surprised shock, another letter came zooming directly out of the
house and shooting for Zack yet again. He caught it this time with ease, but
was knocked off his feet from the weight Amy was pressuring on him inside his
backpack. He opened the second Neomail and ignored the first one that nearly
cut him. He pulled the letter out of the Neomail, and quickly read it. It was
only an address. Too tired to walk, he tapped on his backpack. Amy's head popped
out of the backpack, with a pair of Jubjub Shoes of Flight in her mouth. Zack
took it from her mouth's grip and tied them to his large feet.
"SHOES OF FLIGHT!" At the cry of his voice, the shoes had a bright glow appearing
out of thin air from under his shoes. Then, they took Zack higher and higher
and farther from the ground. And lastly, Zack took off at full speed in the
air. Amy gave a yelp of panic, but her cries were drowned by the fast speeding
pace the shoes were giving her Jubjub owner. He had finally entered the village,
seeing many shops as he floated freely throughout their marketplace. Suddenly,
his shoes shot out several sparks, and unexpectedly blasted at a faster speed
than any other Jubjub who would've worn these. He tried moving from left to
right, avoiding fruit stands and happy shoppers.
An enormous sign appeared in front of Zack's face. He managed to stop, but
dropped from the air and fell onto a hay stack next to a pole that was holding
up the sign. It was the weirdest place to be next to. Black gates spread through
a great amount of acres. The address on the bottom of the sign was identical
to the one on his Neomail. At first, he thought the address was Hilaia's NeoHome,
but here seemed way too large and creepy to be hers.
His eyes searched around the sign, until his eyes spotted the name of the
place. Zack questioned in his mind. Why would they lead me here? It was
a graveyard.
