Balancing Your NeoPet

by horsechicklet

It has recently come to my attention that many people are feeding their pets one kind of food only. I'm glad to see that the new Gourmet Food club has somewhat raised the quality of eating for many NeoPets, but I have it from reliable sources that there are still Neopians who would feed their pets, if I may be so blunt, junk. Your pet cannot survive the winter on free omelettes. As a loving owner of 6 NeoPets, on two separate accounts, I know how difficult it can be for the poorer Neopians to balance their pets' diets. However, this is essential to the happiness and well-being of your pet, and I suggest that you follow my advice as best you can.

Every morning, stop by Tyrannia to pick up your free omelette. This will make a good breakfast for three days each week. That's right, only use one omelette per week. Keep the ones that are worth less money-wise and sell the others in your shop. I also suggest you feed your pets the most healthy omelettes. For the vegetarian, a pea and carrot omelette is best, because it supplies your pet with plenty of vegetables. For your carnivores or pets low on protein, a sausage and pepperoni omelette will be just fine. But the bacon and broccoli omelette wins the prize, supplying your pet with starch, veggies, and protein. This omelette will supply your pet with a healthy, well-balanced meal.

As you may have realised, I do not believe that omelettes should be all you feed your pet- free or not free. Since I know it is difficult to get good food for decent prices these days, I will now suggest some good ways to acquire food. Most obviously, find it randomly around the site and then feed it to your pet. But of course, this doesn't happen all that often. An easy way to get food is to decide on the item you want and search in the Shop Wizard, refreshing until you see the item for sale at a crazily cheap price. You can also wait in the food shop to get food here either for your pet's regular food or to buy rare food and then sell it to make money for more food that is less expensive. You can also win food by playing the Fruit Machine, Tombola and visiting Coltzan's Shrine, so you should do this daily as well.

But of course, buying just any food will not do. For special occasions you can select Turkey Dinners or Duck Necks or make specialty meals with all food from one world or type, such as different ice creams. For special treats on school days, try to get a hold of a cheap Lunchable or Capri Sun- face it, you liked these sorts of things when you were younger. I still do! On occasion. For regular meals, just try to get something that isn't gross, squashed, or burnt. You should have a balance between starch, protein and vegetables. If your pet doesn't like plain broccoli, or (horror) asparagus, try buying your veggies in unique forms, cooked with some more desirable food or even veggies mixed with something else in the cooking pot. Unsurprisingly, your pet just might not be pleased with a perfectly respectable and healthy diet, so mix in the occasional slushie you got from the Advent Calendar, a donut you bought for 7 NP at the food shop, or a strawberry milkshake you found lying around the street.

If all goes well, your pets' new and improved diet should take immediate effect. The results of a good diet are shiny fur, sleek scales, white teeth and strong bones (don't forget the calcium). The result of that will be happy pets who are eager to learn and explore the world around them. If you have questions or comments, please contact your local doctor or myself, horsechicklet. Hope to see your healthy pet in the next Neolympics!
