The Battledome Friendship

by goodcharlotterocks

It was a chilly Sleeping night, perfect for a Battledome fight. It was so cold that we could both see our breath, little billows like smoke coming out of our mouths. Tiger831 growled viciously at me under his breath. His owner, vecho13, gave a little tug on his red satin collar and whispered, "Hush, save that for the fight, Tiger."

I stared into the menacing eyes of Tiger831, my opponent, a robot Kougra with a strong, confidant air about him. I shivered, partly from cold, partly from fear. A small assembly of rowdy little Kougras were already gathering to watch the fight. Excited chatter combined with explosion noises aroused as the youngsters wondered what would happen, what weapons we would use, and most important of all, who would win.

"Go on, Benji. You can do it," my owner, goodcharlotterocks, said comfortingly, urging me into the ring.

With a brave smile, I went up to Tiger and said, "Good luck!"

Tiger answered with a gruff, "Same to you. Now are we gonna get started or what?"

It was my turn to make a move. I decided to use my two Improved Lightning Beams. It gave him a little bit of damage, but not that much, and he hurt me just as bad. I realised I needed to take a little more drastic measures, or I would lose.

First, I decided I had to get my health back up with my Red Scorchstone. Then, I realised what would buy me some time to hurt him. I was going to use my Hypno Helmet. I also needed to use the Heal ability I had gotten from a Faerie, just to be sure I would have enough hit points. When the little boy Kougras saw me using my Hypno Helmet, a hush went over them. I slipped the Hypno Helmet on over my ears carefully, then commanded it. The sky turned black and power from all over Neopia came to me and condensed above my head. Then, with a jolt, the power smacked into Tiger, sending him to the ground. It was what I was waiting for--I hypnotised Tiger831 into missing a turn my Hypno Helmet!

After that, I knew just what to do. By that time, Tiger didn't have many hit points left, so I once again used my two Improved Lightning Beams on him. As I harnessed the power needed for the attack, the lightning cracked in the sky. Then, *BAM*! it hit Tiger so fast he didn't know what was coming. It was almost like slow motion as I saw him fall to the ground. I had defeated Tiger831! Then I noticed something.... All the little boy Kougras were pointing and laughing at his defeat, and I saw a tear trickle down his face. I knew how hard it was to lose and let your owner down, but for Tiger, it was even worse. People would pick on him now, because he had been beat by a younger Kougra. Even the littlest of the boys were throwing Neocola cans at him. He slowly pulled himself to his feet, the best he could while being so injured, the tears still in his eyes. We shook paws and I started on my way to my NeoHome. Then, when I reached the edge of the ring, I remembered something and turned around. "They're a rotten crowd," I shouted, across the ring. "You're worth the whole bunch put together."

I've always been glad I said that. First he nodded politely, and then his face broke into a radiant and understanding smile, as if we'd been in ecstatic cahoots on that fact the whole time. "Good-bye," I called. "It was a great fight, Tiger. I hope to see you again."
