Hello, and welcome once again to Neopian Cuisine! I'm your host, as always,
Calianja the Acara! I'm sorry to say, but due to the writer of Neopia's favourite
cooking show starting school, Neopian Cuisine will only be a once a month show.
OK, anyway, for September's show, we have decided to make Spiced Apple Pie and
Chocolates! This idea was suggested by someone, but our writer forgot who it
was. So if you were the one to suggest it, let us know! Thanks! OK, now on with
the show! First, we will start with the Chocolates. You will need:
1 bag (it doesn't matter what size) Semisweet Chocolate Chips
1 tablespoon Milk Candy Molds
OK, put your chocolate chips and milk in a large pot. Turn the heat on high
to melt the chocolate chips. But make sure you stir it constantly so that the
chocolate doesn't stick to the bottom. Once the chocolate is melted, take it
off the heat. Pour it into the candy molds and refrigerate until solid. Now,
if you want, you can make different flavour chocolates, such as orange chocolate.
Just replace the milk with 2 tablespoons orange juice. To make mint chocolates,
add 1 teaspoon mint extract. Now, after this commercial break, I'll show you
how to make a Spiced Apple Pie. Stay Tuned!
AFTER COMMERCIAL BREAK....
Hello, and welcome back to Neopian Cuisine! For the pie crust, you will need:
2 1/2 cups All-purpose Flour
1 tablespoon Sugar
1 teaspoon Salt
1/2 cup(1 stick) Unsalted Butter, cut into little pieces
1/2 cup Solid Vegetable Shortening, also cut into little pieces
5 tablespoons Ice Water
First, you want to combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a food processor.
Now, cut in the butter and the shortening. Now the mixture should be crumbly.
Gradually blend in enough water by tablespoons to form moist clumps. Make the
dough into ball. Divide the dough into 2 pieces. Next, flatten each into a circle.
Wrap each circle in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour. Now, for the filling,
you will need:
3 lb sour green apples, such as Granny Smith, cut into slices
1/2 cup and 1 teaspoon Sugar
1/2 cup Packed Golden Brown Sugar
1/4 cup All-purpose Flour
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon Grated Lemon Peel
1/4 teaspoon Ground Mace
1/4 teaspoon Ground Cloves
1/4 teaspoon Ground All-spice
1 teaspoon Milk
First, position the rack in the lowest third of the oven and preheat it to
400 degrees F (225 degrees C). Now, in a large bowl, toss the apples with the
1/2 cup of sugar, brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon peel,
mace, cloves and all-spice. Then, roll out 1 dough circle on a lightly floured
surface until its 12 inches in diameter. Put it in a 9 inch in diameter pie
plate. Trim the dough that's hanging out of the pie plate to 1/2 an inch. Now,
brush the edge of the crust lightly with water. Put the apple mixture into the
crust, mounding in the center. Roll out the second circle of dough until its
12 inches in diameter. Put it on top of the mound of apple mixture. Trim dough
that's hanging over the pie plate to 1 inch and reserve the scraps. Now, fold
the top crust edge under bottom crust edge, pressing it with a fork to seal
it. Next, cut several of slits in the top of the crust to allow the steam to
get out. Brush the crust with the milk and sprinkle it with the remaining teaspoon
of sugar. Place the pie on the baking sheet. Bake it until the crust is golden
brown and the juices bubble. Bake it about 1 hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes.
OK, and there's your Spiced Apple Pie! Again, the person who suggested these
recipes please contact us! We will give you credit next month! Thanks! Now,
I'd like to thank as always, since we're out of time, Health Frog, the Breadmaster,
and Neopia Fresh Foods for their contributions! Now, for everyone here at Neopian
Cuisine, this is Calianja the Acara saying, "Thanks for watching and
good-bye!" |
