Kiariana was an ordinary blue Cybunny. She loved the snow
and the fresh cool air at Terror Mountain’s peak. Unfortunately, Kia and her family
lived on Rainbow Lane in Neopia Central; however, the family’s street name was
quite deceiving. Rainbow Lane was actually the part of Neopia Central that was
near the border of the Haunted Woods. Since they were so far from the Bazaar and
the main shops, they didn’t go into the city as often as other Neopets would.
This led to some controversies between the Neopets and their owner, Michjen.
“I need some make-up! I only have 3 different
colors of blush right now!”
“We need to get the Jeran Rocks bean bag!”
“I have to have the new Wocky cook book.”
“I WANT A PETPET!!!” This was Kia’s usual plea.
She had always wanted a Snowbunny and would go to great lengths to get one.
Kia was created on the 27th day of the month of eating in year 6, so she only
a baby. She was usually whiny and cried a lot. Kia was really jealous of her
siblings because they had petpets and she didn’t. Little did Kia know that soon
she wouldn’t be feeling jealous anymore.

It was a clear morning in Neopia Central. The air was crisp and the sun was
shining. There wasn’t a cloud in sight and the sky shown a brilliant blue. Neopets
all around Neopia Central were in high spirits and good moods.
Kia woke up to the sound of the Beekadoodles
chirping and the sun streaming in through her pink curtains. She could hear
her owner Michjen scolding Kia’s older sister Cottonball from down stairs. The
young Cybunny rolled out of bed and began to make her way down the stairs and
into the kitchen where Michjen was serving some fried eggs and faerie toast
to Kia’s three siblings.
Kia sat down next to Shikaka and grabbed a plate.
Shikaka was a red Korbat and was Kia’s only brother. He was the quiet and shy
one of the family. Across from Shikaka was Saffire. She was a blue Uni and was
the most intelligent of the family and the most sensible. Sitting next to Saffire
was Cottonball the yellow Usul. Cottonball – or sometimes referred to as Cot
– was the troublemaker of the household. She loved to play tricks and pranks
on her siblings; however she didn’t dare play a prank on her owner. Michjen
gets very scary when she’s mad.
Kia immediately turned towards Michjen. “Have
you gotten me a petpet yet? A Snowbunny? A Faellie?” she asked expectantly.
Saffire rolled her eyes and Shikaka banged his head on the table in frustration
of hearing the same sentence repeated for the second week in a row.
“How many times do I have to tell you, Kia?”
Michjen answered exasperatedly. “You’re not going to get one if you keep asking
me every single day.” Kia made a sour face and went back to gnawing on her toast.
Her siblings were all used to this so they just went back to eating, but one
of them was having a brainstorm. A brainstorm that would put an end to Kia’s
whining.

Later that day, after Kia had gone to the bazaar with Michjen with hopes of
maybe stopping by the petpet shop, Cottonball gathered Shikaka and Saffire into
her room. The yellow Usul climbed onto her tiger table and clapped her furry
paws together.
Saffire took a seat on the floor and her brother
Shikaka took a seat on the orange striped bed.
Cottonball cleared her throat as if addressing
the Neopets staff. “We are gathered here today because of one of our fellow
sisters. Her name is Kia and she is . . . well, annoying. We have to put a stop
to this!” Cottonball exclaimed while pounding her fist into the palm of her
paw. The blue Uni and red Korbat exchanged skeptical looks but kept on listening.
“The only way we can stop the whining and the
pleading is to do something about it,” Cottonball continued. “We must pool together
our funds and get Kia a petpet.”
Shikaka immediately jumped up and said, “I’m
not wasting all my Neopoints on a petpet for her! I’m trying to save up for
the Lisha and Jeran plushie set!”
Cottonball rolled her eyes. “You have two thousand
Neopoints and you need about a million, okay?” Shikaka glared at her.
“It’s fine with me,” Saffire said.
“Alright, it’s settled then!” Cottonball declared
triumphantly. “Let’s go!” The three Neopets grabbed the little Neopoints they
had, tramped out the front door and began to walk to the Petpet Shop.
“How much longer?” Shikaka panted as he took
his five hundredth step. The words had barely left his mouth when they caught
a glimpse of the shops ahead of them. The three quickened their pace and finally
reached the petpet store. They walked inside and looked around. They could tell
it was restocking time by the way the customers were swarming over the petpets
in the cages.
“If you find a Snowbunny then grab it and pay.
The faster we get out of here the better,” Cottonball said frantically. Cottonball’s
eyes swept the shelves and cages. Out of the corner of her eye she saw something
white.
It was a Snowbunny.
Cottonball lunged forward and grabbed it. A
striped Shoyru glared menacingly at the yellow Usul and stalked out of the store.
Cottonball grabbed Shikaka and Saffire and pulled them up to the cash register.
The green Usul turned to the trio of Neopets.
“Surely you’d want this Snowbunny for at least 9,130 Neopoints?”
Cottonball collected the Neopoints from her
brother and sister and handed them over.
“I accept your offer of 9,130 Neopoints!” the
shopkeeper said in a slightly monotonous tone. Cottonball, Saffire and Shikaka
ran out of the store with the new Snowbunny in hand.
They were just opening the cage to pet the Snowbunny
when Saffire saw somebody familiar walking out of the petpet shop.
It was Michjen and Kia.
Saffire gasped and shoved Cottonball and Shiakaka
behind the building. They were just in earshot of Michjen and Kia. “NOOO!” They
heard Kia wail. “I WANTED A SNOWBUNNY!”
“Well sorry Kia. I guess we got there too late,”
Michjen answered in a somewhat grateful tone. Michjen and the Cybunny walked
on until the three couldn’t see them anymore and they were lost in a sea of
people and Neopets.
Cottonball let out a sigh of relief while Shikaka
wiped his brow with the back of his hand. “That was close,” Cottonball said.
The other two nodded their heads in agreement.
Saffire’s face overcame with worry. “You guys!”
she said in a panicky tone. “How are we going to get home before them? We do
want it to be a surprise, right?” Cottonball’s eyes widened.
“Well that’s an easy one,” Shikaka said boastfully.
“I can fly the Snowbunny back to our Neohome!”
“Okay . . .” Saffire said slowly. “You’re sure
you’ll get back first?”
“Positive,” Shikaka answered. Cottonball tied
the cage onto her brother’s back with some spare rope she just happened to have
handy.
“If we’re back after Kia and Michjen then tell
her that we’re at Alicia2020neo’s,” Saffire said as Shikaka hoisted the cage
higher onto his back.
“Wish me luck!” he said. Cottonball and Saffire
waved as Shikaka took flight. He soared above the trees and into the gleaming
sun.
“We’d better get going,” Saffire said. The two
jogged the whole way back to the Neohome. When they approached the front door
it was opened by Shikaka.
“They’re not home yet!” he exclaimed. “I put
the Snowbunny in Kia’s room. She’ll either find it when she goes to bed or sometime
before that.” They high-fived each other and then went to there rooms.
All they had to do was wait.
About fifteen minutes after Cottonball, Shikaka
and Saffire got home they heard Michjen open the front door. “I’m home!” she
called to her Neopets. “Sorry I took a while. I had to stop by Jenmich’s and
get some stuff I left there.” The Neopets each listened from their own rooms
as they heard their sister Kia hop up the stairs. They could tell she was still
upset about the Snowbunny not being at the petpet shop because every time she
stepped on a stair she would stomp.
Cottonball peeked her head out her bedroom door
and saw Saffire and Shikaka had done the same. They watched Kia thrust open
her bedroom door and walk in.
Silence.
Cottonball looked at Shikaka and Saffire. They
all looked confused. The same thought was running through their minds. Had she
seen the Snowbunny?
More silence.
“AAAAAAHHHH!” The scream echoed through the
quiet house. Kia’s siblings smiled and came out of their bedrooms. Kia came
hurtling out of her bedroom, crashing into the wall on the other side of the
hall. She was holding her new petpet.
“WHAT IS GOING ON UP THERE?” Michjen called
as she ran up the stairs.
Kia held the Snowbunny out in front of her.
“YAY!” she screamed. “I GOT A PETPET!”
“WHAT?!” Michjen hollered when she saw what
her Cybunny was holding.
“It was on my bed, so it’s mine!” Kia said with
glee.
Michjen looked from Kia who was hugging the
Snowbunny so tight its eyes started to pop out of its head to her other Neopets
who were grinning from ear to ear. “What do you know that I don’t?” Michjen
asked them.
Cottonball spilled out the whole story while
Kia stared bug-eyed at her and Michjen nodded approvingly.
“I’m very proud of you three,” Michjen said.
“You guys did a really good thing for your sister.”
Kia ran over to Shikaka, Saffire and Cottonball
and embraced them in a hug. When they pulled apart Cottonball put her arm around
Kia. “So,” she said, “what are you going to name it?”
