A Blue Christmas: Part Two

by ratdog446

A week passed, and with it, Christmas. Allison and Melissa were both getting used to their new owners, but not being separated.

     One cold night, as Allison and Betta sat together by the fireplace, Allison brought up a question she had wondered about since she was adopted.

     "Why did you and Dimetra fight?" she asked.

     Betta sighed, as if she wished the topic had not been brought up. Then she spoke.

     "We used to be the best of friends. But do you remember when those petpets started going missing?" Betta started.

     "Uh huh," Allison answered quickly, eager to know the story.

     "Well, at the time I was taking in stray petpets, and taking them to petpet stores when they were healed. But then one day the authorities came around, searching homes. Turned out that I had the same number and species of the petpets gone missing. I thought Dimetra would convince them I was innocent, but she didn't. Instead she put on a big show, which just edged the authorities on. They took the petpets, and my pets away. That's why I looked angry when I first came to the pound. I never forgave Dimetra after that," she said, with a sad, angry look on her face.

"Wow! "Allison said, which was about all she could say. With that, she went to sleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning, Betta watched a forlorn Allison look sadly out the kitchen window. She had her eyes fixed on a group of friends, and didn't turn around when Betta walked up behind her.
     "You miss your friend, don't you?" she asked.
     "Yes," Allison said, sadly. She turned around, showing a tear-streaked face.
     "I wish I could get you together, but…" Betta stopped.
     Allison turned back to the window, thinking angrily, but what? You said the same kind of thing when you said why you couldn't adopt Melissa.
~~~~~~~~~

That afternoon, she knew what she had to do. She waited carefully, waiting for Betta to have to leave. But the chance didn't seem to come. She kept watching, but soon it was night once again.

~~~~~~~~
The next morning, she was ready to wait some more. But she didn't have to, for her chance had come.
     "Ali, I hope you don't mind if I have to run out to play some games?" Betta asked after breakfast.
     "No, I'll be just fine," Allison said, trying to hide her grin.
     Soon after, Betta left, with purse in hand. A few minutes after the door-clicked shut, Allison ran, hoping that Dimetra wasn't home. She was in luck.
     "Hello?" a familiar voice asked.
     "Lissa, it's me Ali. I can't stand it any more. I have a plan to get our owners back together," Allison gushed. Melissa pulled the door open, and they both hugged each other.
     "Oh my gosh!! It's you!! I've missed you!! I know why the two of them broke up do you? Dimetra bought me a Doglefox to make me feel better. I named him Kirba. He is so cute! You should see him!!" Melissa gushed, in her familiar way.
     "Yah, I know too. But you only know Dimetra' s perspective of it though. If you knew Betta's you would realize why they split," Allison explained.
     "I still understand. I can't believe why Dimetra would do that. She said she didn't know why she did that, she said she feels bad about it," Melissa answered.
     "Okay, is she home?" Allison asked, hoping she wasn't.
     "No, so tell me your plan," Melissa stated.
     "Okay, so we both take these letters, that we faked in our owners hands to the post office. They need to be about how they miss each other. Then we write that they want to meet up. It has to be the same on both though or it won't work. Then when our owners tell us their going we beg to come. When they meet again, we explain why we did it, and how they need to make up. And that we know they both miss each other," Allison explained.
     "What if one of them won't come?" Melissa wondered.
     "We'll just have to hope," Allison said after sighing.
     "Well, Neoschool's starting soon, so the day after it starts we can say after school we're going to a friends house, when we're really going to the Rainbow Pool to write the letters." Melissa planned.
     "What if they show up, and see us?"
     "Well, Kirba can come and be guard. If he smells one of them coming, he'll growl."
     "So, I'll have to bring something of Betta's, and you need to bring something of Dimetra's," Allison stated.
     "Yep, and I'll bring some of Dimetra's personal stationary. I can just use one of my pens for school to write with. Does Betta have stationary?"
     "I think. I saw her write a letter to her sister in Meridell, and I thought on the top of the paper I saw her name, like it had been typed. I'll ask her if she has any, and if I can borrow some."
     "Well, I guess that makes us ready."
     "I guess I won't see or hear from you for a week," Allison sighed.
     "Yep, that's how long it's going to be till Neoschool starts. Well I think I hear Dimetra coming, so I'll meet you on Tuesday at the Rainbow pool after school right?" Melissa spoke in a hurry.
     "Yes, of course," Allison said, but was answered by Melissa closing the door.
~~~~~~~

Soon it was Monday, the day that school was going to start. At both girls homes there was a rush to get ready, and pack all the school supplies.

     "Jeran backpack, green notebook, Mootix pencil case, earth Faerie eraser and pen, mechanical pencil, Chia pencil sharpener, and Lupe warrior lunch box?" Betta said, running of the list of things Allison needed

     "Check, check, check, check check, check, and check!" Allison announced.

     "Well, have a good day!! I'll pick you up after school," Betta said, as Allison rushed out the door.

     At Melissa's house a more calm routine was going on. Melissa had gotten her things ready the day before, and was now going through the list for the second time.

     "Let's see, blue Cybunny lunch box, faerie back pack, cloud notebook, Babaa pencil case, white Poogle eraser, Faerie Kacheek pen, pencil of the Earth Faerie, and Babaa pencil sharpener. I guess I have everything," Melissa said, then grabbed the chokato Chia pop that was her breakfast, before running out to the door, and hopping on her gold scooter.

     At the corner of Aisha Avenue, the two meet up. Allison screeched to a stop on her red mountain bike, and Melissa stepped on the brakes of her scooter.

     "Wow!! It's finally you!!" Melissa cried.

     "And it's you!!" Allison screamed in delight.

     "I've missed you sooooo much!!" Melissa exclaimed, while running to give her friend a hug.

     "I made friends with a few kids out of the neighborhood, so Betta thinks I'll be at one of their houses tomorrow. But none of them are as great as you!!!" Allison said, as she gave her friend the biggest hug she could manage.

     "So, tell me all about your new home," Melissa said as the two started of again. "Well, I'm an only pet. We live on 727717, Cairn Close. I have my own room, which is done fire. I have a fire sofa, fire table, fire rug, fire pillow, fire beanbag chair, fire cushion, and I even got a fire Lupe plushie, and since they don't have fire beds I have a zen bed, which is still really cool. And I got a few toys too, a black fuzzle, black Bearog plushie, a black evil fuzzle, and an orange regular, and evil fuzzle. Betta even says that if I want, I can start collecting Fuzzles," Allison said with delight.

     "Now tell me about your room," Allison asked.

     "Well, we live on 888192 Bracknell Road. My room's done Kauvara -- since Dimetra knows I like magic. I have a Kauvara chair, Kauvara rug, Kauvara sofa, Kauvara lamp, Kauvara bed, Kauvara bean bag chair, Kauvara drawers, and Kauvara wardrobe. And a Babaa love poster. Oh, and a starry paintbrush plushie, and a starry Lupe plushie. I have my own bathroom too. That's done cloud. It has a cloud rug, cloud, sink, cloud toilet, and cloud paddle brush. Plus, I have a cloud speaker. And since they don't have cloud bath tubs, I got a plain white bath tub," Melissa proudly said.

     "Wow!! At my house we only have the bathroom me and Betta share, and the guest bathroom. Are you an only pet?" Allison exclaimed.

     "Yes. Since Dimetra is often out, it gets quite lonely. That's why she bought me lots of books. We have a library at my home. Yesterday I got 'Neopia's Past', and 'All About Earth Faeries'. I also have a robo Jubjub, robo Aisha, robo Poogle, and a clockwork Wocky. Although with all the stomping, sometimes the Jubjub keeps me up at night," Melissa giggled.

     "Wow!! Dimetra must be rich!! So tell me about Kirba," Allison answered.

     "Well, he's my little baby, and next to you, my best friend. I've tried to make friends with my neighbors, but their all snotty rich pets, going of to boarding, and prep schools. So most of the time, I stay inside reading, playing with my toys and Kirba. I play outside to though. Kirba is great at playing catch. At night he sleeps on the end of my bed. He's a peppy little pup, and he thinks his quite brave. He likes protecting me from the threatening garden gnomes," Melissa giggled.

     "Gee, I wish I had a petpet. A Warf, or a Puppyblew or maybe a Poppit, or a Doglefox might be nice. Or possibly one of those new Flowpers things. Peo's are cute to. And Meltons are nice too. Or maybe a Meekins or a Faellie. What about a Gruslen. And you can't forget Anubis'. I also like Raindorfs, and Feepits. Or what about…" but Allison was interrupted there.

     "Whoa, stop there!! I feel sorry for whoever might get you a petpet." Melissa interrupted.

     "Yah, I guess so. Betta said maybe I might get a petpet for my birthday," Allison said.

     "That's coming up in what, a few months. Maybe if you can make up your mind, you'll get one," Melissa said with a giggle.

     "Yah, I'll think about it during school. Speaking of school, here we are," Allison said.

     "Ready?" Melissa said with a deep breath following.

     "Uh huh," Allison muttered, grabbing her backpack's strap tighter.

     The two walked up the steps of school, terrified of how the day would turn out to be. But as soon as they went inside they felt calmer.

~~~~~~~~
"So what's your schedule after lunch?" Allison asked, as she opened her lunchbox.
     "Um, Art, P.E., and then I'm outta here!" Melissa joked.
     "Yah, outta here is my favorite class," Allison said through a giggle.
     "So, who was the worst teacher?" Melissa said as she made a face at the contents of her lunch. Dimetra was putting her on a diet, to help her be stronger for the Battledome.
     "What do you have that's so bad?"
     "Let's see. A parsnip, cauliflower, and for dessert a cabbage doughnut, and organic cherries. Bleck, bleck, bleck, and yum!" Melissa made a face.
     "Oh, yuck!! Well, I have extra stuff, so don't worry," Allison said.
     "What do you have, and what can I take?" Melissa said, with a thankful grin.
     "Well, for myself I'll have a Honey and Bacon burger, diet Neocola, a peach, and deli turkey slices. You can have a blueberry roll, sausage and cheese roll, and some Neowaiian bread. Betta thinks of have the stomach of the Turmacculus!" Allison said as she handed her friend the food.
     "Thanks!! I won't say a word to Dimetra about this, though. She gave me a few Neopoints to buy a drink with. She thinks my drink will be the only unhealthy thing in my lunch," Melissa said with a giggle.
     "Hey, if you get a slushie, or something that's actually good, can you get two straws, so I can have a sip. You can have some of my Diet Neocola!!" Allison shouted at her friend as she walked over to get a drink.
     "Okay, here you go. A smoothie of Forest Fruit Baby Food, your highness." Melissa stifled a giggle, when she returned.
     "Ha ha!! Really," Allison said, putting her hand out.
     "Okay, a Large Lemon Blitz Smoothie," Melissa said pulling the blue and yellow smoothie from behind her back.
     "Mmmm, yummy!!" Allison cried, reaching out.
     "So really, who is your least favorite teacher?" Melissa said as she sat down.
     "Well, that ones a dead give-in. Ms. Owens is absolutely evil!!! When I was working on my essay about of all things, what I did over the summer, my pencil ran out of lead, and I whispered to the Techo that was sitting next to me for some lead, since I saw he had a mechanical pencil too. I got the lead, but Ms. Owens came up and made me recite Chapter 2 of "The Art of Cybunnies", or in other words, the first book that I ever read, or in other words, a book for babies," Allison explained.
     "Thank goodness I don't have her till Friday," Melissa said with a sigh of relief.
     "Lucky!! I'm going to ask Betta when I get home if I can quit her class, and take potions instead." Allison said in disgust.
     "So how are you going to get Kirba to be guard for us?" Allison said, changing the subject.
     "Well, I told Dimetra that I was taking him to a friend's, so she said she'd drop him off at the front of the Gardening Shop," Melissa explained.
~~~~~~

Soon it was time for school to end. Allison followed Melissa to her bus, and then went to find Betta.

     "So how was school?" Betta asked on the drive home.

     "Well, Ms. Owens is out to rule the world, but other wise nothing is that major," Allison said with as straight a face as she could.

     "Riight," Betta said, turning to look at Allison.

     "Really!! Please let me quit!!! Please!!! Can I take Potions instead?" Allison begged.

     "Ali, I was going to get you a yellow frost cannon, but if you would rather switch classes than that's fine with me," Betta calmly said.

     "Ohh!! Thank you!!! Thank you, thank you thank you!!" Allison said in triumph.

     "You're welcome. I'll stop by your school while you're at Science."

     "To make it up to you, as a bonus, I'll fix dinner tonight," Allison said.

     "That would be nice. But since I don't know how good of a chef you are, please just take stuff from the fridge," Betta said with a fake terrified look.

     "Okay."

~~~~~
"Okay, I'm ready," Betta said, as she was lead by Allison into the dinning room.
     "One…Two…Three…" Allison said, the pulled of the bandanna she had used to blindfold Betta.
     Now that she could see Betta was amazed. In front of her were a nicely set table, and an astounding amount of food. To one side of the table were the salads, Caesar, Negg, and Twin. Next to it were the appetizers, only none were there.
     "I couldn't find anything," Allison apologized.
     Following that was the main course. A chocberry pizza, a starry hot dog, meatless meatballs, fried chicken breast, and a nacho cheese stuffed hot dog. Finally at the end of the table were the desserts. A sugar bunny, chocolate flakes, Kyrii pop, candy Chia apple, white chocolate Chia, and a strawberry jelly Chia. And on a small table near by were the drinks. Regular Neocola, diet, and caffeine free.
     "Wow!!! This is great!!!" Betta cried.
     "Thanks, now have a seat before it gets cold," Allison insisted.
~~~~~~

An hour later they had full stomachs, lots of dirty dishes, and lots of leftovers. The two collapsed onto the tiger sofa.

     "I think I know what's for dinner tomorrow," Allison said with a feeble smile.

     "Yah, me too," Betta moaned.

     The two began laughing, and when they finally stopped, they started a pillow fight. At Dimetra' s it was quite different, though.

~~~~~~
Melissa sat alone at a long classic dinning table. She pushed at her turnips sadly, waiting for Dimetra. As she looked at the clock she saw that Dimetra was two hours late. Finally she heard the door open. Dimetra walked in, Kirba sniffing intently.
     "I'm so sorry!!" Dimetra apologized.
     "It's fine," Melissa sighed.
     "I was watching a tournament of Gourmet Club Bowls, and I didn't notice it ran long. But to make up for it, I bought you a present," Dimetra apologized.
     "What!!" Melissa cried, bouncing out of her chair.
     "Guess," Dimetra smiled.
     "A sibling, a toy, or furniture," Melissa rattled off.
     "Nope, a petpetpet!!" Dimetra cried.
     "Cool!! I hope my friend won't mind. I think I'll call her after dinner. What kind?" Melissa grinned.
     "A Mootix!!" Dimetra exclaimed.
     "Wow!! Those are one of my favorites!!" Melissa exclaimed.
     "Well, you let your new friend there meet Kirba, and we'll eat!!" Dimetra said.
     "I think I'll name her Grenia," Melissa announced during dessert.
     "Good name Lissa," Dimetra said as she bit into her orange sweetie.
     "I'm done, I'm going to call my friend, and then go to sleep," Melissa said as she walked away.
~~~~~~~~~

     Later both girls went to sleep, eager for tomorrow to come.
