Meridell - A Land of Misfortune, or A Tool of Politics? by lorafelina | |
MERIDELL - Well, nearly everyone knows the existence of the tiny, yet lovely and
peaceful land of Meridell. It is a kingdom of prosperity and good potatoes, where
every farmer can harvest happy crops. Yet the existence of Meridell is one of
the most traditional, and fortuitous of all places in Neopia. Though the standards
cannot possibly compare with the majesty of Faerieland, it contains some of the
most wonderful things found in Neopia.
However, I doubt that most of you readers came to read about the wonderful
scenery. The truth of the matter is that could Meridell and all that has befallen
on its land be a plot of conspiracy? Could the politics of higher powers have
affected the misfortunes of the people of Meridell? Will I ever find my fuzzy
slippers?
The truth of the fact is, we may never know, but by researching in the articles
if the Neopedia, I came across two very interesting articles. Each respectively
to very well know, or otherwise notorious faeries. Their names are Illusen and
Jhudora. It has been a well know fact that all who live in Meridell is granted
protection by the generous Earth Faerie, Illusen. Her powers are deeper than
the knowledge of even the most acknowledgeable scholars. Yet nobody knows the
reasons of why she bestowed her residence to the sweet little kingdom. There
have been rumors that Illusion tired of the politics of the Faerieland Council,
and yet her rivalry with Jhudora seems to have carried its presence even onto
the innocent and (if I may be so bold) ignorant village. Yet ignorance is bliss,
a false bliss that shields the eyes of the truth. Her presence on the kingdom
has benefited the people greatly, that I would not deny. Yet answers have seemed
to pop out in the most enigmatic way.
Now that I'm done speculating Illusen, we shall move on to her Evilest Highness,
Jhudora. A sinister Dark Faerie with unfathomable secrets. Even feared by most
faeries of the Faerieland Council, her plotting so far has seemingly gone nowhere.
Or is it just that they SEEM like they are going nowhere? This is a very tough
question due to the nature of the dark faerie. Jhudora's favorite passing time
is to plot, yet she never lays her hands on anything herself. She will not work
for what she strive, but bribe the weak hearted looking to power. Her rivalry,
however, is one of the rare things that have ever been openly pronounced, her
incredible hatred and loathing of Illusen.
Now that the two main characters of my speculation have been set, I shall
move on to more refined details. One of such is: Why do both faeries have special
quests? The answer to this question I cannot truly give you, but I do have some
slight suspicions. Firstly, each will progress from common items from toys to
drinks, yet as we progressively come back with more things, each faerie begins
to ask for more challenging items. As a result, by harvesting so many resources
to their holding, they might hope to create something more magical. Yet if they
do, what do each faerie intend to do with them? And why is it that after doing
a specific number of quests, the subjects will then receive certain gifts? And
has anybody realized that most of these gifts are Battledome items?
Also another thing I would like to discuss is the mental states of current
and past Darigan Rulers. First we are presented with Lord Darigan himself, a
once honest and wise ruler, bent by power later on to seize control. Yet the
object of his tormented brain would be a glowing orb. Now the orb, as read in
the Book of Evil, is said to contain "foul magic" which contorted, and corrupted
his heart. Also a reading of Lord Kass, the current ruler, we found out that
in both the plot, and in the book of Evil, he has been plagues be the shadows.
Now after reading this specific article I had to think for a minute, which I
may say hurt tremendously. Firstly it sounded very much like the work of Jhudora,
the great manipulator of politics.
Now who's to say that Jhudora is the one? Well there are so far many facts
that are unlinked yet present a clear distinction. Why would Jhudora collect
so many things if she did not plan to create something with it? Also since we
don't know anything about her collection of items other than the fact that she
wants it, what's to prove that her creation is none other than the orb itself?
After all, it would be very simple to present the orb to Lord Darigan if she
had a simple agent, like Lord Kass, who was of a lower position at the time.
And since Lord Kass is so power-hungry, it would be very easy to take control
of his mind, thus now after much influence creates the shadows that demands
of his victory and gives him the charisma to hold position over the Darigan
forces. And also this would explain the reason why Illusen has been collecting
items as well, as she would have to keep up to Jhudora so that she may defend
the people of Meridell.
Finally we have journeyed to the final question. Many of you may now be asking:
Why Meridell? It would be a challenge to define the importance of this area.
But first we take a look at why other places can't be a possible answer. Faerieland
is at the lot of the list because of the mighty Faerie Queen. She is by far
the most magical of all faeries and will certainly not allow her kingdom to
fall into the hands of Jhudora. Sorry Sista! Also, Central Neopia is only a
commercial stand compared to the rest of the Neopian world, its importance is
only to those who blue-blooded fat rich people. Krawk Island is a tropical island
ruled over mainly by a population of Krawks and pirates, who already plunder
and steal. Therefore the importance of this small piece of land is not very
high.
Maraqua is by far the last place one would want to conquer as it is inhabited
by practically nothing, so conquering this piece of land would be like walking
on the sand bottom and say "this is now my land". Our next target is Mystery
Island, one who has never quite figured out the mystery of this land. However,
there are many strong opponents here, that I think if Jhudora were to take it
over; it would be quite a challenge. The Space Station is a place filled with
technological advances, yet they did not lax after the overtaking of Dr. Sloth.
Tyrannia is one of the most historical places of Neopia, but overtaking such
a piece of land would not do any good for they are way behind the times. The
Lost Desert has long moved past its crisis of the Pharaoh and now their current
leader is strong. Also it is a place of ancient and powerful magic, that even
the Dark Faerie could not break. Their guardians also have utmost faith in their
duties that she could not possibly break through their strong hearts. And finally
the Haunted Woods, where Balthazar is frightening enough to make her flee in
terror from the giant-sized bottle he's been preparing for her. And lastly,
Snow Mountain where the Snow Faerie rules. She is not an ally of the dark faerie,
but she is not an enemy either. And because of the magical extent of the Snow
Faerie, I doubt she'd want to mess with her.
That leaves with why Meridell is the perfect place. Firstly, it is where Illusen
resides. By taking over, she would be able to prove to her the extent of power
that she can wield. Also, this place holds over 300 years of history. So while
Jhudora didn't want to take over Tyrannia, this kingdom will suffice. Also it
has not lagged too far behind the times for them not to be able to make fast
advancements technologically-wise. And finally, since the people are not protected
by that big of a threat, as she of course has viewed Illusen to be a mere….
um…. thing, it would not be too hard to take over.
Thus the land of Meridell is torn apart in raging battles and wars only for
the rivalry of two enchanted faeries. And the sufferings of each battle have
become more gruesome, but can Illusen really do something? She was powerless
during the battle with Lord Darigan, and only through the bravery of those gallant
knights did she retain her home. Yet now war has waged again, is the residence
of Illusen as important as the lives lost in each war between the two faeries?
I'll leave it to these faithful and loyal readers who have lasted this far without
dying of boredom to decide.
P.S. - This is my first article so I am a newbie, and if you have any problems
PLEASE tell me. However, I am a sensitive person so if you have a flame… don't
send it. I'm scared of them.
