Tips For The Health Conscious Pet

by lndustrious

Introduction:

Ever had your pet say ‘That was Horrible! L’? Well, your pet may be quite health conscious and not want you to feed them all those nasty, fattening foods out there that are oh-so-delicious! Find out how to take care of your finicky friend!

The Foods Out There Today:

There are TONS of goodies out there that taste scrumptious, but are not necessarily good for your Neopets. Like doughnuts, things from the chocolate factory, candy/sweets, burgers, and many other goodies that are easy to get your paws on.

Substitutions:

Your picky pet might have some ideas as to what it wants, so pay attention! Sometimes your pet’s stomach will rumble and it will want something like a ‘cool negg’. Pay extra close attention to your random events! I’ve had Clumsilily’s (My mutant Lupe’s) stomach grumble for some things. Usually it’s ice cream or a negg. But I remember Clumsilily’s finicky ways, so I go out to the health food shop and pick her up something nice.

There ARE healthy things out there that taste delectable! So don’t fret. Eating healthy doesn’t mean sacrificing your taste buds in doing so! Clumsilily ADORES chocolate parsnips and cheesy brussle sprouts! She also ADORES apples of ANY kind! The red ones are softer and sweeter than the greens (Lily’s favorite!). Just take a trip to the local Health Food Store and see what that Quiggle has in stock!

Supplements:

A very large controversy among owners is supplements. Such as iron, calcium, vitamins a, b, and c, and other things that you can feed your pet to boost their morale. I personally am VERY for these supplements, as they are a GREAT way to balance your pet’s nutrition! So start shopping! ((And it’s fairly cheap, so you won’t have moths in your safe at the bank!))

The Health Food Shop:

The shopkeeper says ‘I accept your offer of 100 Neopoints! Organic Green Apple has been added to your inventory!’ See? It’s not that expensive! And they restock VERY often there, so be sure to keep an eye out for all different types of foods! I set aside five thousand NP a month to buy health food for Clumsilily. She LOVES it! I splurge on delectable health foods such as ‘Caramel Covered Brussle Sprouts’ and ‘Organic Pineapple’s! The Health Food shop offers a wide variety of healthy, organic foods that your pets are SURE to love! Make sure that they get equal servings of each food group though!

Drinks:

Well, there are MANY drinks out there that put empty calories into your pet. Now, your pet may be the active pet who helps the Krawk rescue dubloons, or maybe they are expert Kacheek seekers, but either way, drinking is a LARGE part of your pet’s diet.

There are alternatives to those bad drinks (like Neocola). You can easily substitute those nasty carbonated drinks with water (Mmm!) or milk from the Kau Kau Farms! Clumsilily drinks a LOT of milk!

For The Vegetarian:

Now, your pet may be a Chomby (some may eat meat) or a Cybunny, or a Kau, which do not generally prefer to eat meat. It may seem like a daunting task to seek out things that contain no meat for your little herbivores! It’s actually quite easy! In fact, most foods that are sold at the Health Food Shop contain NO meat products and are all organic and healthy! So, pick up a sack of NP and head on over! ((You MIGHT want to feed your vegetarian pets an Iron supplement as well, because Iron comes mainly from meat.))

For the Carnivore:

Now, there are pets that live solely on meat. There are some Lupes and some Grarrls that live like this. Now, those pets are slightly harder to shop for, but you can do it! Just browse the Health Food Shop very carefully and you’ll find something. And once you find something that your pet likes, stick with it! ((You MIGHT want to feed your carnivore pets Calcium and all Vitamins.))

For the Omnivore:

An omnivore is someone or something that eats both meat and vegetables. Now, almost all my pets are omnivores. Especially Lily! She’s a very good eater and enjoys her vegetables and fruits very much, so I don’t normally need to give her supplements. But your pet might be different, so pay close attention to what they say after you have fed them! Sometimes they’ll mention that they’re thirsty, so water is the way to go. But now back to the omnivores… They’re very easy to please! And supplements are not usually an issue, so don’t fret if you want to make sure you beloved friend has a balanced nutrition! Just as long as you feed them a balanced meal, you won’t need too many supplements!

Dessert!

Mmm! I think it’s the best part of the meal! All those sweets! Yuck… and all that fat! Your pet doesn’t really need all that fat, do they? Well, there are things that you can purchase at the health food shop that are healthy and sweet that both you and your pets are SURE to enjoy! Most fruits are sweet and would make a delicious desert! So try that first of all! And if you skim the health food shop well enough, you’re sure to find something sweet and healthy to numb your sweet tooth!

Exercise:

Exercise is also quite important to maintain a healthy pet. That’s why I travel with Clumsilily all the time! She and I have traveled so many places together! Walking is a GREAT way to get your heart pumping and blood flowing! Training at the Academy, or at the Training School on Mystery Island. Also, you can play games with your pet, like Kacheek seek! You both have fun, your pet gets exercise, and you get NP as well! You ALL benefit!

Now, if you’re a VERY busy Neopian, browsing shops for bargains, hunting in shops for buyable unbuyables, and playing games to raise your high scores and get trophies, you don’t have TIME to exercise! Well, do not fear! There are little things that you can do that will help you be more active!

For starters, you can stand instead of sit, walk/bike instead of take other forms of transportation, and you can eat healthier! Now that I’ve told you to eat healthier, re-read this article! Ha ha! Just kidding! You don’t have to! Just watch what you eat!

Ending Thoughts:

Well, now you know about how to take care of your picky pet! I hope I helped you discover new ways to eat well and stay fit!

Good Luck!

Note From The Author: Well, I’ve always wanted to do a little column like this, and when I fed Lily a few things, I realized how she preferred the organic foods to the junk foods. So, I figured every owner ought to be able to feed his or her pet the healthy way! Thanks for reading! Feel free to Neomail me with any questions, comments, or criticisms!
