A Beginner’s Guide to Neoquest 2: Chapter 2

by kongsingcheung

NEOQUEST - Back from popular demand, this guide hopes to bring the best and worst of chapter 2. This guide covers Terror Mountain, the Caves of Terror, The Eastern Pass, and of course, the dreaded Lost Caves. You can expect more technique in both your battling, and more difficult enemies that challenge your pathway. What are we waiting for? Let's go!

S.O.S.-Save Our Snowager!

If you enter the town immediately on your right, you'll find nothing but foreign-speaking Chias, so just skip it. Instead, head east for a bit, then Southeast to find the Dirty Smelly Cave. It's a one-way dungeon to a speedy boss. Beware, for he has... glasses!

Sub-Boss: Leximp
Hitpoints: 150
Difficulty: Medium
Notable Attributes: Speed
Tactics: The one powerful attribute of this boss, is its speed. Caste haste immediately, and keep Mipsy's life up while she casts her spell. By now, she should already have at least level 12 in Direct Damage to put her to good use. If you have Taunt, use it to further protect Mipsy's low life count. Reward: Weapon/Armour, plus the quite-important Wordstone, which allows you to communicate with the Chias!

Go back to the Chia town to restock on supplies. When all fully loaded, head east a little to levelbust a level or two. The enemies here have a considerable amount of life, and staying close to the village allows you to restock when potions are low; just staying alive is tough right now. When you can easily defeat the enemies without using too many healing potions in one battle, head east ALL the way to the Caves of Terror.

Caves of Terror: To conquer this one-floored cavern, hang to the east part of the wall. Keep following the wall. Travel on normal is much safer, but unlike Sneaking in Neoquest 1, you may still have to fight many guys. To maximize the use of your potions, heal before and after fights. This will allow you to keep your battle for longer during battle. Someone who is worried about dying is going to make bad choices in combat.

You're out! Now for some fantastic news. After walking north a little, you'll find shelter! Inside the Mountainside Inn, you can get healed, and restock potions with the guy standing in the southwest corner. Talk to the green Eyrie, Talinia. She (yes, it's a girl) is a member of your crew who now will join your party.

Character: Talinia
Good skills: All are good, especially her multi-arrows and shockwave.
Bad skills: None
Tactics: Up her damage increase the most, as Talinia starts off relatively weak. Her multi-arrow will prove a godsend when fighting, well, multi-guys. Shockwave, one of my favourite skills, allows any of her attacks (both single and group) to create a shockwave, stunning EVERY enemy for a considerable amount of time. High enough level, I'd say this happens 25% of the time. Her other abilities generally slow the opponents down during combat. What does this mean for our fortunate heroes? Faster characters do more damage, and with Talinia now on your team, you're going to be getting more hits in battle, and making the baddies do a lot less.

Once again, levelbust a few levels to up the stats and hitpoints of your characters. By now, Rohane should have high levels in Damage Increase, medium levels in Critical and Stunning. Mipsy should be pelting high damage, and she should be able to take a couple of hits before going to red. When you feel ready, head west. Yup, there are multiple pathways that all lead to the completion of the 1st half of the chapter. Enemies may be coming in threes, which is why Talinia is there to help even the odds. Enemies will always have more life than you, but you got the brains and skills to use your abilities to the fullest. Keep walking to find the next boss, Kolvasr, a... robotic crab...*Gasp*

Boss: Kolvars
Difficulty: Easy
Life: 225 hitpoints.
Notable Abilities: Critical Attacks, Slowing and Haste.
Tactics: Boil him in water for 10 minutes, adding some herbs and salt sparingly... Just kidding. By now, bosses usually cast haste first-thing to boost their speed, and slow you down during the course of the battle. Combat this through your own Haste via Mipsy, or potions that haste or slow. Warning: Slowing may prove ineffective, and will take away a turn better spent attacking if it doesn't slow the enemy.
Reward: NP, Weapon/Armour, Gold and healing potions.

Nice work, because not killing him would have been a LONG way back. Heading south now that Kolvars is no longer in the way, you'll come across the Happy Valley. The prices are really high. Do not, buy anything, yet. Head south to the third detached house from the top, where you'll find a frantic mother, Jualie. Her child, Niacha, has been missing. Find the child by heading south from the skating rink just west of her house. Then, hang along the edge of the forest, walking right. You'll find Niacha hidden just under the trees to the left. Talk to the kid, and voila! The people are so happy, they'll give you discounts in the stores!

After you leave the place, don't head west. That's just a dead end. Go south and levelbust 2 levels. The cragstone Tuskaninnies are really annoying. Note: If you hadn't realized this by now, using Group Damage attacks with Mipsy and Talinia takes quite a bit of time to recover. That's why haste is SO SO important. Anywho, go east all the way. You'll find a small camp where you can rest up for free. Now, get ready for The Lost Caves. All 4 floors of them.

Floor 1: Head west as much as possible, and you'll eventually come to a chamber with chairs and tables. Find the stairs by going south and then west.
Floor 2: Very small floor, but train a little until you level up. In fact, try to levelbust whenever you seem to be getting pummelled. Head north as much as possible, then head west to find the next flight of stairs.

Floor 3: Basic open room with several pillars and one really luxurious chair. Go northwest to find the stairs. Ho-hum.
Floor 4: The battles start to get a little fierce. Have you fought a group of 4 yet? Don't worry: They never come in groups greater than that number. This is a very linear dungeon, so don't except frequent dead ends. I found the exit by noting the changes in the environment, like the lava you find. Just head west to find your last exit.

The top of the mountain: Finally! Take a break, spray some deodorant on your characters, and get ready to take on the final boss of the chapter. While on your little one-way walk, you'll find some really strong Kougras and Snow Chias who pack a heap with their immense hp. Go on Hunting to Levelbust once before heading back to Normal. The boss is a giant Mynci-gorilla who has the Snowager captive.

Boss: Scuzzy... yeah, I know. I laughed too. :)
Difficulty: Medium
Hitpoints: 400
Notable Abilities: Does Group Damage, Slowing, and possible stunning (according to some friends)
Tactics: The only thing that's a challenge with Scuzzy is the 400 life he has. Just stick to what you've learned, and you'll seriously whoop him. I was very, very disappointed.
Reward: NP, Weapons/Armours, gold and some healing potions. Plus, the completion of Act 2!

Beating Scuzzy earns you another cut-scene that really reveals a lot more about NQII's plot. If people continue to send positive feedback, expect to see more of these series. Once again, I'd like to give thanks to people who helped at the neoboards and people who gave such glowing compliments!
