Elyza’s Fate

by chocolateisamust

In the town of Neopia lived a Meerca
Her heart was black and her mind was evil
She was feared by her family
And was an outcast of the world
Her name was Elyza
And this is her story

Coryn stared uneasily at the copy of "Scary Sloth Stories" her sister had just given her as a birthday present. The hideous face of Dr. Sloth gleamed from its red cover, and the foul-smelling yellowed pages were all fashioned with the same outline.

"Um… thanks, Elyza." She glanced timidly over at her sister -- a red Meerca -- and forced a weak smile. "Undoubtedly a different kind of gift."

Elyza cackled in a sinister manner, and then smiled sweetly at her younger sister. Her eyes danced with amusement as she then watched Coryn drop the book back into the flimsy cardboard box it had initially been packaged in and head towards her next gift.

Roughly six more minutes passed, but then all the boxes and envelopes had been opened and the contents had been looked at and thoroughly examined. Coryn thanked her owner and brother - a green Scorchio named Jesse - from the bottom of her heart, but then got a little quiet when it was her turn to say something to Elyza, who was now carelessly cutting away at the tail of a Vira Plushie.

"Your gift was something I'll remember getting for a long time," the red Usul said, and that was it. Her lips did not move any longer… she merely stared at Elyza, waiting for her rejoinder.

The Meerca looked up from the 'surgery' she was performing on the plushie, and forced a smile so sweet it made Coryn's stomach churn.

"Oh, I'm sure you will," Elyza declared, her voice like poisoned honey.

Coryn's heart pumped with pure tenseness, and she hugged her own plushie - which was modeled to look like a blue Lupe -- in effort to console herself. She was sure Elyza was built of absolute wickedness (or perhaps just enjoyed scaring the wits of her sister).

An eerie silence down lingered in the air of the living room. Elyza had by now returned to operating on the plushie, but the other three in the room simply stared at each other.

"I-I'm going to go buy a cake for tonight. Wanna come with me so you can pick out the flavor, Coryn?" It was Jesse who finally spoke.

Coryn nodded… anything to get her out of this situation. She dropped the Blue Lupe Plushie to the floor and then noiselessly stood up.

Jesse started towards the front door, and the Usul raced after him.

"Bye guys," their owner -- a young girl named Chocolate -- whispered, her hands clamped tightly in her lap.

"Bye." Jesse briefly glanced at his owner, but then opened the front door and stepped outside. Coryn followed older brother.

The pair walked in silence for a moment, but then Coryn spoke three simple words: "Elyza scares me."

Her Scorchio companion nodded in concurrence. "The Sloth book might have been a joke -- just because she knows you're horrified of him -- but that's just one thing on a list of one million that proves that she's evil, or something in that genre."

"I wouldn't be flabbergasted one day if when we came home from school she was having a meeting with all the greatest foes of Neopia - Jhudora, Sloth etcetera."

Jesse laughed and playfully shoved his little sister. "She's not that bad," he stated. But then, in a somewhat uncomfortable voice added, "I do get your point, though… she seems to be a villain-in-the-making."

Coryn nodded, and then sighed. "I don't see why Mom doesn't well… you know… do something about her already."

"Yeah, but well, I guess it's up to her. We'll just try to well, avoid Elyza 'till Mom actually does do something. For now, though, let's stop talking about this and get your cake. Okay?"

"Okay…" Coryn sighed again, but then said nothing further regarding the subject. And the siblings' walked in utter silence until they arrived at The Bakery.

************************************

Jesse cradled a box -- which contained a Chocolate Cake -- in his paws. He and Coryn had taken a lot longer than planned, because when they arrived at the shop, they realized that they had no Neopoints in hand. After withdrawing some from their bank account, they headed back over to The Bakery, and discovered it to be empty. They hung around until the Kacheek shopkeeper restocked, and then bought the first cake they saw, which happened to be chocolate.

It was dusk now, and beautiful pink clouds were spread across the gentle blue sky. It was a breathtaking site, and the pair of Neopets gawked at it as they walked home. Of course, this meant not focusing on the path they were taking, and the two managed to become well… lost.

And by the time they re-found the right path and managed to arrive home, it was long after darkness had settled throughout the lands.

The frosting had rubbed off against the box itself, so the cake was rather bare when the family - excluding Elyza, who would not eat anything that tasted halfway decent - dug in. But the item still tasted fine, and at the end of the dessert session, the box was empty, and all plates were scraped clean.

Jesse and Coryn sat at the table, bloated, as Chocolate washed a day's worth of dishes in the Disco Sink. The three chatted amongst themselves for a while, but then Coryn announced that she was going to get ready for bed. Jesse decided to do so as well, and both of them headed towards their bedrooms, which were across from each other.

Jesse arrived at his bedroom safely, and Coryn thought she did, too, but as soon as the Usul flopped down on her Kau Print Bed, Elyza sprang from the corner and pounced on her sister. The Meerca clamped her paw over the Usul's mouth.

"Don't do anything and everything will turn out fine," she hissed. "But if you don't, you're fate shall be in my hands."

Coryn nodded meekly, her eyes blurred with tears. She had been afraid of her sister before with no real reason, but now this was happening.

Elyza grabbed Coryn's front right paw and then dragged her away from the bed and through the open window, which was the length of the most of the wall.

It was bitter cold outside, and frigid winter air whipped throughout the atmosphere. The grey clouds hovering overhead were not very reassuring either to the scared Neopet, and she shivered uncontrollably… not sure if it was because of the situation she was in, or the grisly weather.

Coryn did not have much time to ponder over the issue, though; Elyza was soon dragging her even further from the Neohome. The Usul had never thought of her sister being strong, but she couldn't be weak if she was dragging a Neopet a long distance with no supplementary aid.

Coryn was dragged for approximately ten minutes when suddenly Elyza stopped. She turned around and shot a piercing glare at her younger sister, but then let go of her.

The Usul simply at the Meerca from the ground, not sure why she had been let free. But the Neopet did not waste anymore of this valuable time; she sprang to her paws and bolted from her sister.

"You come back here!" Elyza barked, shaking her paw with rage. She thought the fear of being taken would've numbed her sister's senses enough where she would not have dared run. Apparently, though, her technique had failed, because Coryn was gone.

Her blood boiling with anger, the Meerca wandered of the earthy path she had been walking along and plopped down behind a leafy bush. She had not been sitting there long when she felt a slimy hand grasp her tail.

******************************

When Coryn arrived at her own Neohome, she started pounding on the front door manically. She was panting, and her fur had turned a shade of brown from the dirt and dust she had aroused. And when Chocolate answered the door, she panicked.

"What happened, Cor!?" she asked, scooping her Neopet into her arms.

     "Elyza…" Coryn panted.

"What did Elyza have to do with this?" Chocolate inquired.

"She took me." And with that, Coryn collapsed.

Chocolate slammed the front door shut and then placed the Usul on the sofa. She then got Jesse from his bedroom and told him to look after his little sister while she sorted things out. The Scorchio did not think twice, but immediately raced out of his bedroom to see what had happened to Coryn.

************************

Elyza swiveled around to see a large creature hovering over her. It's eyes gleamed a spine-chilling red, and it smelled foul… sort of like the book she had earlier given Coryn…

The truth hit Elyza like a lightning bolt. This wasn't just any Neopet, or owner, or anything in that class at all. This was Dr. Frank Sloth.

"So I finally meet you, Elyza," he said, his voice slick.

"How do you know my name!?" the Meerca yelped.

He cackled evilly. "I have my ways, Elyza. But right now you just shall consider yourself lucky, because I am not going to dispose of you like so many before."

"W-what'd you mean?" The almighty -- being Elyza in this case -- had fallen.

"Oh my dear, I think you know quite well," he cackled again.

It was true; Elyza did know what he meant, but that didn't mean the Meerca wanted to.

"What are you going to do with me?" Elyza whispered, the fear in her body overwhelming.

"Ever heard of a Faerie named oh… Fyora?" He flashed a wicked smile.

"Yes," Elyza replied, her voice still in a whisper.

"And you haven't been in any trouble with her now, have you?"

     "I haven't… b-but really I don't see where you're going with this."

"You will soon. But for now, let me just say this: I know where Fyora keeps a stash of about oh… 900 million Neopoints, and you're going to get every last one for me."

"I am?" Elyza's voice was no longer whispering, but squeaking in fear instead.

"Yes, and you are going to do it in precisely 3 hours at 12 am."

*************************

Jesse leaned over his sister as Chocolate pressed a warm washcloth against her forehead. The Usul was buried under layers and layers of blankets up to her chin, and how she was laying looked quite comfortable to the conscious Neopet and owner in the room.

"I wonder what happened to her," Jesse remarked, and Chocolate nodded in agreement. Both knew that it had to do something with Elyza (Whom they discovered missing) taking her, but they knew nothing more than that.

**********************

Elyza sat locked in an uncomfortable seat in a spaceship (which Sloth was piloting). At least it's better than how the Grundo's are kept, she thought. And that was true, because the Grundo's were kept in horrid condition.

"What in the world is this!?" Sloth suddenly bellowed as he started pressing a blue button repeatedly. The spaceship did not budge, and the aggravated villain, howled with anger.

Elyza found it quite funny that the villain she once looked up to was having a temper-tantrum, but she kept it to herself and simply smiled.

"What is wrong with you… smiling at a time like this!?" Sloth snapped to the Meerca.

     "N-nothing," she stuttered.

The villain muttered something under his breath, but then continued to repeatedly pushing the blue button. Finally, the spaceship reacted and started to slowly decrease in speed.

And when the scratched-up speedometer hit 0, it landed on a fluffy white cloud.

*************************

Chocolate and Jesse were sitting on the couch - the owner at the side of her Usul's head, and the Scorchio at her feet. They were reading about the first Pteri in the newspaper when they flipped to a page that said "BREAKING NEWS", and a picture of Sloth popped below the print.

"Sloth spotted in Faerieland on the 5th day of the Running. An eyewitness tells us the villain was clutching the paw of a frightened looking Neopet, and was seen in a spaceship." A poorly drawn image of a Red Meerca was printed on the paper, and Chocolate gasped. It didn't look like just any red Meerca… it looked like Elyza. She didn't know why or how she knew this, she just did.

"Sloth's using 'Lyza for something!" she yelped.

     "Don't be unreasonable, Mom. There's millions of R - "

     "No, Jesse, that's Elyza."

Jesse stood up and slowly walked over to where his owner was sitting. Once there, he hugged her tightly. "Mom," he whispered, "if that is Elyza, she's in trouble. We gotta go save her."

Chocolate slowly shook her 'no.' "Look what Elyza did to Coryn… s-she could do the same thing to us. I would save her, honey, but I don't want to hurt you… or me."

Jesse gulped. He had never liked Elyza, but she was still family. "I'm going myself then."

The Scorchio did not even wait for Chocolate to reply. He simply ran out of the front door, and once into open air, flew into the sky. He had to save Elyza…

**********************

"You shall listen to me right now, alright, Elyza?" It was a command, but Sloth said it in a question form.

Elyza nodded weakly. "Alright," she whispered.

"You shall go into Fyora's palace -- My Grundo's will distract all of the puny guards -- and in the foyer, there are many doors leading to different places. Go to the far right corner, and you will see two paintings of some Faeries, and in between them there is a little dent. Push the dent, and one of the paintings will flip. Once it is flipped, you will see a number-pad. Key in the numbers 6-3-0-9-1, and then press 'enter'. A small opening will open for 14 seconds… and I mean ONLY fourteen seconds. You shall crawl through and get the riches about 5 feet back, then bring them back to me."

"All in fourteen seconds?" Elyza questioned.

     Sloth snorted. "What'd you think?"

The Meerca nodded weakly. She now truly wished that she had never even left her house that night.

****************************

The Grundo's spoke some gibberish to the guards, who all thought it had to do something with Sloth and panicked. A cloaked Elyza attempted to creep into the palace as this commotion occurred. She slid through the gates and now advanced towards the actual building. Her heart raced with nervousness, and she was sure somebody would catch her.

Citizens of Faerieland littered the streets for miles… all chatting about the recent spotting on the villain. And over the crowd flew a green Scorchio… Jesse.

He grasped his paws around the lavender gates and scanned the area for anything at all…

Then he saw it… moving swiftly in the shadows. It was a cloaked image of what appeared to be a Neopet, and the Scorchio had a gut feeling that it was his sister.

     "Elyza!" he called. "Elyza!"

Elyza swiveled around and looked towards the voice. She gasped when she saw Jesse…the brother she thought she might never see again.

She wanted to throw off the cloak and just go and hug him, but she could not do that. Not now.

Elyza turned back towards the palace and continued on. Her heart was full of guiltiness and she felt more evil than ever before. Robbing Fyora…

As she was about ten feet from the palace doors, a paw suddenly grasped Elyza's shoulder, and she turned around to see no other than her brother.

"How'd you get over here?" she whispered.

"I have my ways, Elyza." He strangely said the same words Sloth had previously said to her, but the Meerca ignored it.

Jesse grabbed his sister's paw. "Let's go, Elyza," he remarked.

The Meerca nodded slowly, and Jesse took off for flight. The two of them never looked back.

In the cheery town of Neopia lived a Meerca
She was full of happiness and love for her family
Her heart was not blackened by evilness
And her mind was full of joy
Her name was Elyza
And she was free
