Feathered Petpets (And a Bruce)

by ginger23456

HAPPY VALLEY - Hello again and welcome to the sequel of Feathered Friends. In this article I will be giving valuable information on another bird of Neopia as well as the bird type Petpets. This information will ensure that you get the best out of bird watching and give you that satisfaction of doing the hobby in a professional and enjoyable way.

Bruce

Where to find them - Bruce like cold weather so the best place to find them would be Terror Mountain. You will find them almost everywhere on the mountain as they do not like to stay still in one place.

Call - Bruce don't use their bird call very often, but instead, prefer to talk normally. However, their call isn't non-existent so sometimes you will hear a quiet high pitched squeak and sometimes a low growl if they feel they are in danger or feel threatened.

Food - Because Bruce live on Terror Mountain, they do not eat berries or fruit like other birds do. They prefer slushies and other snow food as the temperature gets so cold that fruits are unable to grow.

Activity - Bruce love to compete with each other. They will often play games together and hold special contests such as dancing and ice-skating. They are very confident and love audiences to watch them compete and dance. When they are not competing they will usually be found taking a browse through the many shops that are available in Terror Mountain.

Bird watching method - Spotting a Bruce is easy. You can either join an audience and watch the dazzling performances the Bruce do, watch them compete with each other, or, if you prefer the more natural way, you could watch the Bruce as they waddle from shop to shop browsing the many items their home has to offer. They aren't shy so you can get up close to them without fear of them running away or attacking in defence.

Watching Petpets is harder. Petpets are rarer to find than Neopets and are much wilder. However, if you like a challenge, or if you just want to try something different, then these guides will help you to master the more advanced form of bird watching.

Weewoo

Where to find them - You will find these small owl-like birds on Krawk Island. They are rare, however, and are usually found nesting in the small trees around Krawk Island.

Call - The Weewoo makes a rather haunting and melodic wee…woo. This can only be heard at dusk however, and during the day the bird is silent.

Food - The Weewoo will eat berries and sometimes worms that find their way to the surface at night time.

Activity - Weewoo's are most active at dusk when they will sing and listen out for any other Weewoo that might be nearby. Weewoo's usually prefer to be alone but will sometimes be seen with a partner, in which they both sing together.

Bird watching method - Because Weewoos are nocturnal, the best time to bird watch is at night time. If you want to hear their bird call then make sure to visit Krawk Island. Because Weewoos like to nest and perch in trees, it is best to find one tree and focus on that. Place berries under the tree to watch the Weewoo take them from the ground. Make sure you are well hidden and far away from the tree, otherwise you will scare them.

Beekadoodle

Where to find them - These birds are usually found in Neopia Central but some have recently been spotted in Tyrannia and Mystery Island. They are quite hard to spot as they rarely stay in one place and fly at amazing speeds.

Call - The Beekadoodle creates a lovely melodic song, even when it is flying.

Food - This bird feeds only on certain berries. The most favoured berry is the Blueberry and people seem to think this is because of the berry's sour taste.

Activity - Beekadoodle's rarely stay in one place for a long period of time and very often fly around with speeds faster than any other Petpet. They can be seen flying alone or in groups.

Bird watching method - Because these birds like to fly at fast speeds, it would be better to watch from the sky. Listen out for sweet, long lasting bird songs and a cloud of electric blue in the sky. The blue will most probably indicate a flock of Beekadoodles. If you want to see a lone Beekadoodle listen out for a solitary bird call and a speck of blue in the sky. Because Beekadoodle's are small it will be better to try and listen out for the bird rather than trying to see it.

Airax

Where to find them - Because these birds are prehistoric they can only be found in Tyrannia. They like to live in caves, sheltered from the heat of the Tyrannian sun and mainly come out at night.

Call - Airax make a loud, squawking sound that can sometimes sound like laughter. If the bird thinks it is in danger it will make a series of clicking sounds with its beak to warn other Airax.

Food - These birds will eat almost anything. Berries, meat, they even take a bite out of the Giant Omelette when they think no one is looking.

Activity - Airax spend most of their time flying to the top of the mountains in Tyrannia and diving off them, swooping down and often landing graciously on their feet.

Bird watching method - Because Airax only come out at night, this is the appropriate time to see them. Venturing into their caves will only cause you a lot of unnecessary pain as these birds are not timid and will actually put up quite a fight if you walk into their territory. They also don't like people getting too close to them so if possible, try to stay well hidden. If you do want to get close to them, bring some meat (Lupe treats will do) and place them on the ground nearby to where you are watching them.

Horus

Where do they live - These birds live in the hot, dry climates of Tyrannia and the Lost Desert. They live in trees and sometimes small caverns in the sand.

Call - Horus make a high pitched screeching sound. They can also warn Neopets of danger by clicking their beaks in a number of different sounds.

Food - These will eat only berries. They eat nothing else even when tempted.

Activity - These birds are very wise and will usually sit at the bases of trees or at the mouths of caverns, warning passing Neopets of nearby danger.

Bird watching method - Horus are quite tame and will allow you to come close to them. However, stay away from these birds if you can see it talking to a Neopet because this usually means that they are warning that Neopet of danger and they don't like to be interrupted when doing this ancient ritual.

Albat

Where do they live - These owl type creatures live only in Meridell and are usually found in the forests surrounding the dainty little town.

Call - They make a very shrill twitt twitt sound but if they sense a predator they will be silent.

Food - Albats will often scavenge the Pick Your Own fields picking out the many berries they have to offer. Their favourite berries are Heartberries and Voidberries.

Activity - Albats usually like hovering above the fields of Meridell scavenging for berries and perched atop trees confusing passing Neopets and predators with the two false eyes on top of their heads.

Bird watching method - There are two ways to watch Albats. One way is to hide beneath the bushes in the Pick Your Own fields and watching the birds swoop to pick the berries. Another way is to look high up into the tree tops in the many forests. You will know when an Albat is nearby because of its unique call.

Pawkeet

Where do they live - These birds live on the decks of ships in Krawk Island. They are sometimes seen washing themselves in the many rock pools.

Call - They make a very loud squawk sound that is very different to the other squawking birds of Neopia. The squawk seems to be deep and gravely and can sometimes hurt your ears.

Food - They will eat almost anything given to them. Pirates sometimes give Pawkeets the leftovers from the many feasts they have.

Activity - These birds love to play Deckball all day long. They are very energetic and can usually play for hours at a time. When not playing Deckball they can be found washing themselves in the rock pools.

Bird watching method - If you want to see a Pawkeet up close then you can either watch the deck of a pirate ship or a rock pool. Pawkeets do not mind when being watched playing Deckball, in fact they like the attention. However, a Pawkeet likes its privacy when cleaning itself in a rock pool. If possible stand 20 metres away from it making sure you can still see the bird clearly.

Mallard

Where do they live - Mallards live anywhere where there is a substantial amount of water. They prefer mild climates such as Neopia Central.

Call - This is pretty obvious. They quack.

Food - A Mallards diet usually consists of bread. They will eat it though only if it is thrown into water where it can go soggy enough for it to eat.

Activity - Mallards love to swim together in groups. They often dive under the water playfully and they can also waddle onto dry ground to sit and soak up the sun.

Bird watching method - Mallards aren't particularly timid creatures. You can watch them very easily just peering over the water's edge. Always make sure to bring bread with you. Mallards always seem to be hungry and you can sometime watch them squabble with each other as they try to get the bread.

Vullard

Where do they live - Vullards prefer desert climates so the Lost Desert is the only place in Neopia where these birds can live.

Call - These birds don't actually have a bird call. They grumble and groan instead for reasons I will provide below.

Food - Vullards are lazy little creatures who will only eat things that Neopets have left behind or dropped on the floor. Sometimes they will not find any food for days causing them to grumble and groan.

Activity - Vullards don't do very much at all. You will either find them perched atop palm trees looking for food on the ground or slowly walking on the floor looking for food Neopets have dropped on the ground.

Bird Watching Method - Vullards aren't very timid so you can get pretty close to them. They are quite common in the Lost Desert and you will almost certainly see them in palm trees and on the ground. Take some food with you so that you can feed the Vullard and watch it as it greedily gobbles its food.

Now that I have given you guides on the feathered Petpets of Neopia, it is time to use these and try bird watching for yourself if you haven't already done so. My guides will ensure that you enjoy this hobby and do it in a good professional manner. Have fun!
