Lily And Tavinerin

by lndustrious

It was early Tuesday morning and Clumsilily had just gotten up. The sun was shining merrily down on Neopian Central and the Beekadoodle had finished belting out its mighty crow.

Lily yawned sleepily, the mutant Lupe stretched her arms out towards the ceiling, her jaw spreading open wide. After her thorough stretch, the Lupe let her arms fall back down to her sides.

“BREAKFAST, LILY!” called lndustrious from the bottom of the stairs. Lndustrious was Clumsilily’s owner. She was clad in jeans and a Jazzmosis T-shirt, which was covered up by a long red apron. The apron was abstractly dotted with batter and juice from lndustrious’ morning battle with the breakfast.

     “LILY!”

Lndustrious yelled impatiently, pacing back into the small island-themed kitchen. The owner rolled her eyes and plunked the plate of steaming Faeriecakes onto the bamboo table.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Lily had just gotten out of bed and tucked the sheets of her iron bed up underneath the iron pillows. The young Lupe trotted over to her dresser and peered into the red mirror. A groggy mutant Lupe face stared back at her. Lily heard lndustrious’ calls and yelled back to her.

     “Coming lndy!”

“I’m sure…” muttered lndustrious as she sat a small carton of orange juice on the table next to the slowly cooling Faeriecakes. “Your Faeriecakes are getting cold!” she called up to the Lupe.

After polishing her mask, Clumsilily tromped down the stairs to the kitchen. Silently, she plunked herself down on the coconut chair.

“Mmm! Faeriecakes! My favorite!” Lily exclaimed picking up a whole cake in between her claws and dropped it into her open mouth.

Lndustrious smiled warmly at the Lupe she had adopted only a few days ago.

“Did you sleep well?” Lndustrious asked, taking a fork and spearing herself a small piece of Faeriecake.

Lily nodded in between chomps. The Lupe swallowed noisily and reached for the carton of juice. She took a large sip and swallowed, allowing it to chase down the cakes.

Lndustrious nodded silently, reaching over with a hand to open the blinds of the small Neohome.

“I was thinking…” lndustrious began, pushing a piece of cake around the plate with her fork, “…that we could maybe go Petpet shopping for you today…” she suggested, finally capturing the cake and raising it to her mouth, all the while watching Lily.

Lily’s ravenous eating ceased. The Lupe’s head turned slowly over to lndustrious.

“A petpet? For me?!” Clumsilily asked excitedly, not giving the cakes a second glance.

lndustrious nodded, smiling gently. She popped the Faeriecake into her mouth and chewed thoughtfully.

Lily didn’t say anything, but grinned ecstatically, slowly lowering her gaze back to her plate.

“As soon as you’re done with your Faeriecakes, we can go,” Lndustrious explained, setting her plate quietly in the sink, vowing silently to clean it later. Maybe.

Lily’s gaze didn’t advert from her plate.

     “I think I’m done…” Lily whispered excitedly.

lndustrious smiled and picked up Lily’s plate and set it on top of her own.

Go brush your teeth, dear, and we can leave.

Almost as soon as lndustrious had finished her sentence, Lily was off, galloping upstairs and swerving into the rainbow bathroom. She picked up her blue toothbrush hastily and scraped at her teeth.

lndustrious grabbed a few sacks of Neopoints and was waiting by the door when Lily careened into the living room.

“I’m ready! I’m ready! I’m ready!” cheered the Lupe, almost bouncing on the tip of her paws.

lndustrious wouldn’t admit it, but she was almost as excited as her Lupe. She’d never been Petpet shopping before!

*One Hour Later*

lndustrious smiled as the two reached the small Petpet Emporium in the center of Neopia Central. As Clumsilily pushed the door open, a few bells jangled merrily, announcing their presence.

A small green Usul waddled in, a Flightning Bug perched on her shoulder.

“May I help you?” she asked kindly, holding her arms out in a friendly gesture.

     Lndustrious nodded.

“Yes actually,” she began. “We’re actually looking for a petpet…”

“Oh?” the little Usul asked cheekily.

“It’s for her,” Lndustrious added, pointing over at Lily who had already busied herself looking at the Warfs and Puppyblews.

The Usul nodded and quietly walked over to Lily who was laughing at the antics of the small petpets.

“Ahh, a Puppyblew! A perfect choice! They’re a wonderful petpet! They absolutely Love to play! And if you train them well enough, they’ll even chase peanuts and do flips in the air!” the Usul explained.

Lily stood up, still smiling. “Thank you, but I don’t think I want a Puppyblew…”

“Oh…” the Usul stammered, following Lily as she walked over to the Aquatic Isle.

“Primellas and Pfish are nice choices also…” encouraged the Usul, pointing at a few of the tanks containing the small Petpets.

“No thanks,” Lily said again, gazing into a tank of Unioctos.

lndustrious watched quietly as the Lupe viewed and declined each of the Petpets. Slowly.

*Hours later*

lndustrious yawned and quickly clasped a hand to her mouth to stifle it. She unfolded the latest issue of the Neopian times, preparing for the long stay.

Suddenly, the bells on the door jingled as a small Zafara stalked in holding a tank with a Uniocto inside. But the Uniocto was no ordinary Uniocto… it was green and fuzzy… a Mutant!

The little Zafara shoved the tank into the arms of the Usul.

“HERE! Take this retched creature back!” she screamed. “It doesn’t do anything!” yelled the Zafara.

The Zafara’s owner looked very distraught as she slouched over to the Usul.

“I’m sorry…” drawled the owner miserably. “I bought this Uniocto from you a month ago but little Bella is not pleased with it at all. Could we maybe exchange it for an Angelpuss or something?”

The owner gasped as the Zafara called ‘Bella’ was busily inspecting the Angelpi.

The Usul nodded, in a hurried attempt to get the retched pet out of her store. Bella grabbed a Pink Angelpuss and stormed out the door, her owner stumbling after her.

Meanwhile, Lily had made her way over to the tank containing the mutated Uniocto.

lndustrious looked appalled as she held the paper, the front section flopped over and crinkled. “Oh my…” she whispered, too stunned to do anything else.

But Lily broke the awkward silence.

     “How much?” she queried.

“Excuse me?” asked the Usul, furrowing her brow.

Clumsilily pointed down at the tank in the shop owner’s arms. “How much for him?”

The Usul smiled and shrugged. “Maybe thirty thousand Neopoints.”

Lily looked over at lndustrious, her eyes welling with tears, her lip pouting. “PWEASE, lndustrious?” she asked, her lip quivering.

lndustrious had snapped out of her trance-like state. “Thirty thousand?” she repeated, looking down at both sacks of Neopoints. “I don’t know…”

*An Hour Later, Back At The Neohome*

“Thirty thousand Neopoints…” lndustrious mused, looking at the two empty sacks (that used to contain Neopoints) on the counter. She sighed deeply and poked at the lifeless bags with her finger.

Lily giggled. “Lndustrious!” the Lupe called. “HE JUST BLEW A BUBBLE! I THINK HE SAID HI TO ME!!!” she cheered happily, clapping her paws together excitedly.

lndustrious smiled gently. “I guess it was worth it,” she whispered, quietly putting the Uniocto food in the cupboard.
