Wockys were everywhere, along with their owners, almost filling the room to
capacity. An owner stood on a stage in the front of the room, accompanied by
her Fire Wocky. She glanced down nervously at the Wocky which stood confidently
beside her. Everyone was talking amiably, laughing and joking with one another.
The owner with the Fire Wocky tapped a microphone, and coughed to get everyone's
attention. She grinned as the entire assembly fell silent and stared at her.
She shuffled a few note cards, brushed her hand across the Wocky's head for
reassurance then began to speak.
"Well, um, you've all been invited here to give your opinions on a question
that I doubt many people can answer confidently." She paused a few moments for
effect then kept talking. "What are Wockys?" A murmur ran through the crowd,
then stopped as the girl on the stage continued to speak.
"Do they belong to the cat family, with Kougras, Aisha, domestic cats and lions?
Or the dog family with Gelerts, Lupes, domestic dogs, wolves and foxes? Can
we have a few speakers for their opinions now? More will be called up later."
Hands shot up around the room. A few were called up to the podium to speak.
The first speaker carried a rather young minty green Wocky in his arms.
"Personally, I think Wockys are more like cats. They have small pointy ears,
bushy tails and a short muzzle." A few people applauded in the audience then
the next speaker took the microphone.
"Sure they have short muzzles, pointy ears and bushy tails. But so do foxes.
Look at red foxes, they've got all the traits of that. Plus only a few Wockys
have retractable claws, and almost every cat has retractable claws." Loud applause
followed the quick speech as the speaker stepped down.
"Okay, this is the last speaker then we'll move on." The girl who seemed to
be orchestrating the debate took the microphone from the previous debater and
handed it to another owner with a Fire Wocky.
"I'm kionosis_whitewolfo2. Wockys are definitely more like wolves than anything
else." A ripple of applause went through the audience then fell silent as the
leader of the debate took the microphone once again.
"Okay, so those were opinions. But what about statistics? A survey through
Wockys revealed that a general weight was about 40 pounds, and a general height
was about a foot and a half at the shoulder, or 47 centimeters. I think I can
safely say that if a house cat was that tall and heavy, it would either be a
very small bobcat, crossbred or an extremely large kitty. Moving to the dog
family, the height corresponds with that of a red fox, which also stand about
a foot and a half at the shoulder. But the weight is completely off. Forty pounds
would be an impossible weight for a fox."
She was interrupted by rather angry protests from the audience, and others
arguing with the protesters. The Fire Wocky at her side growled and leapt up
onto the podium, taking the microphone. "Stop this! Let her keep talking!" The
audience, wide eyed, quieted and returned to their seats.
"Thank you..." The debate leader said, looking relieved. "Please save the arguments
for later. Looking at physical data though, the Wocky isn't fat or overweight
at all. They're rather compact. The muzzle, as I've heard a few of you talking
about is short." A hand went up in the audience. The debate leader sighed for
the interruption, but allowed the person to speak.
"Not to get off the subject, but in domestic dogs, plenty of dogs like Pugs
have nearly no muzzle, but that doesn't make them cats." He sat down and another
murmur went through the audience. The debate leader smiled. "No, it doesn't.
Moving on to the tail, a few types of cats have bushy tails. So do dogs. But
it closely resembles a fox's brush. As before, Wockys don't have retractable
claws, except for a rare few. Their ears are short and pointy like a domestic
cat's. Foxes also have short pointy ears, as do some domestic dogs." Another
hand went up in the audience.
"But that doesn't answer the question." The debate leader grinned and glanced
around the room. This was what she had been waiting for. "Ask the Wockys."
(This article wasn't meant to say.."HEY! WOCKYS ARE CATS!" or "NO! Wockys are
dogs! I'm right!" It was meant to just clear up a few things a Wocky could not,
physically be. Supposing NeoPets was real... don't I wish....) |
