Finding The Perfect Guild

by ziesolles

GUILD HEADQUARTERS - Guilds, my fellow Neopians and NT readers, is one of the central parts of our life on Neopets. So many of us are joined to one, and so many of us work hard and support our guild leaders to make our guild a better place. These guilds give us purpose for Neopets: for some almost every purpose, and for others, only sections of it.

The range of guilds in Neopia and all of its lands is… big, very big, so big that you can call it huge, or even beyond huge. All you have to do is go to the main guild page and look at all the numbers and see the gigantic lists that show each and every non-private guild. There are many of them, as you will find. In Neopia there are thousands upon thousands of guilds, both big and small.

For some, finding a guild is easy, quite easy really. But for others, it can be the most painstaking objective that they will ever try to accomplish. This is what my article is based on, and hopefully it will help the many of you that find it hard to join the right guild.

Firstly though, if you do not know what is a guild, or wish to know how one is run, then I suggest you read a few articles written by Neopians themselves who are very knowledgeable in the topic. Even posting your question in the 'Help' section of the NeoBoards can aid you in that matter.

Next… and that is about finding, and then joining, the guild that will be best for you. Just follow the five, easy to understand, no problem steps listed below, and in under an hour (possibly much, much less) you will be on your way to posting your very first message in your brand new guild.

Step One- Deciding The Type Of Guild

Guilds vary in many different ways; there are moneymaking guilds, which include the wide-variety of stock guilds. There are also the BD and RP guilds that focus their daily activities on the interests of the members that join. The variety of guilds also extends to NT writing guilds, item collecting guilds, and fan guilds of certain pets, items, or other non-Neopian related themes.

The thing that you need to decide is which one of the above, or the many more other themes available, that you want to join. It basically depends on what you are, and what you want to do in a guild, so have a look around, and see what there is available.

Step Two- Compiling A List Of Requirements

D'you want certain contests in your new guild? A certain number of members? A website? Perhaps an open council spot that you want to have? Well, that's the next step. Each guild will have certain qualities, but not all of them will be to your liking. What you need to do, is open up a word document or notepad, or get out a pen and some paper, and jot down a list of requirements that you want your new guild to have. Keep the list handy too, as we'll need it later on.

Step Three- Creating A List Of Possible Guilds

We're getting there. The next step is to create a small list of guilds that you think are reasonable. To get this list, use the chat board on guilds and mention that you are guildless, and looking for a guild. Also, put in the most important requirements that you want your new guild to have. Then after a couple of minutes you should have a fair few replies to your post as well as a few Neomails. Then, jot down all the guild links as well as who referred you and so on.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a slightly bigger guild, then I suggest you use the listings given on the main guild page. Here, under each guild section such as Coral Canyon, or Battledome, you will get a list of the biggest guilds. Once you have a list though, which only needs to be of about 5-8 guilds, proceed to the next step.

Step Four- Checking Each Guild Out

Now with your list, use the links that you saved and visit each guild in turn, and see if they really DO have what you want. Have a look at their website, if they have one, and so forth. Sometimes, Neomailing the guild owner with a few questions before joining is a good idea, especially with smaller guilds. While you do this make a few extra notes and see if you can eliminate some of the guilds on your list. Hopefully, after doing this, you'll only have about 2 or 3 to choose from. Wait for the response from the guild leader, or from whomever you might've sent a Neomail. If you wish to question them further about the guild then do so as well. By the end of this step though, you should only have a couple of guilds to choose from.

Step Five- Decide!

It's all up to you from here on… you have two or three guilds that you have decided to be the best from your original number, and you have looked at every guild and questioned the guild leader. Now, you need to decide.

Well, there you have it. By now you should be joined to a truly wonderful guild that should cater for all your needs. You should be happy at the moment, as you have successfully chosen the right guild for yourself.

Upon joining, you will be able to do a number of extra things that can sometimes bring peace of mind, or answer a few extra questions. For instance, if you want to know the activeness of members you can now access the pages, 'Members' where you can see a list of all members, with their ranks, number of posts, and date of joining. Also upon joining, you can use the link, 'Messages', which you can use to see what types of messages are written, and so forth. This is where you post your own messages. If you are joining a fairly large guild, for example, one with 100+ members, I recommend that you read the guilds rules page, which is normally located on their website. This normally helps so that you know what to, and not to, post on the boards.

So, I do hope you enjoy your new guild, and I hope that this article helped you somewhat in getting you there. There are many guilds to choose from, and choosing the right one can be hard, so, if you did manage to get hold of the right one, I congratulate you.

If you did end up joining a guild, but decided after a week or so that you seriously do not like it, then by all means, you can move. Just because you join a guild, does that mean that you HAVE to stay in it. Other than that though, there's nothing more for me to say, so have a great time in Neopia, and I hope to one day see you in one of the many guild neighborhoods. Happy Neopetting!

Authors Note: Please note that if you Neomail the owner of a guild, which has around 100+ members, it may take a short while for you to get a reply, regarding a question that you may have sent. In this case, sometimes it is better if you Neomailed a council member, for instance the 4th or 5th Guild Council member.

Apart from that though, I do hope that you enjoyed reading this article, and that it helped you in someway. If you have any questions regarding guild finding, or anything related such as comments, then give me a buzz, as I would love to hear them.
