Lildevilz stared up at her ceiling, her head resting every
so gently on her pillow and her body wrapped up in a nice warm feather comforter.
As one eye shut closed, she tried to fight off her drowsiness, for she didn't
want to go to sleep. Whenever she actually managed to doze off, she always had
dreams, horrid memories of what she had done three years ago. As her other eye
closed shut, she thought to herself, Wow, has it already been three years?
That was when she drifted off to sleep.
"Honey! Wake up! It's the first day of school!"
shouted Rissa, who was cooking breakfast downstairs. Lildevilz's eyes slowly
opened, and the smell of Faerie pancakes wafted across her nose.
"Okay, Mom! I'll be right down!" Lildevilz said,
getting up and bumping into her dresser. Half asleep and walking around her
room, Lildevilz grabbed her Dark Faerie Backpack and rushed down the stairs.
Lildevilz the yellow Draik started to walk out
the door when Rissa interrupted her, "What are you doing? You haven't even eaten
yet!"
"Oh, I'm not hungry! I'm kinda nervous, since
it is the first day of school," exclaimed Lildevilz.
"Do as you wish," Rissa said grinning. "I hope
you have a nice day." Lildevilz smiled at her mom and walked out the door.
As Lildevilz reached the playground of the Neoschool,
she felt quite awkward standing on the opposite side of the fence with all the
other kids playing on the other. "Aren't you going to come in?" A hefty yellow
Skeith said coming towards her. "Here, I'll open the gate door for you," the
Skeith said grinning with his yellow teeth. "Wow, thanks, you're quite nice!"
said Lildevilz as she walked through the gate opening. Just then, the Skeith
slammed the door shut right on her nose.
"OW!" she shouted.
The yellow Skeith toppled over in laughter.
Tears formed in the corner of Lildevilz's eyes. "Awww, is baby gonna cry?" questioned
the yellow Skeith with sarcasm.
"Hey! Leave her alone!" shouted a brown Uni
from across the playground. "Why don't you pick on somebody your own size, like
me!"
Terror appeared on the Skeith's face as he got
up and ran away. "That's what I thought! You big bully!" shouted the Uni.
"Tha-tha-thanks," said Lildevilz stuttering.
"Don't mention it! Some people around here can
be really mean!" said the Uni. "I'll be your friend, though!" The Uni said grinning
with a broad smile. "My name's EponaShadowfax, you can call me Epona for short!"
"Well my name is Lildevilz25, but you can call
me Lildevilz for short!" They both laughed. "Here let me show you around the
school!" said Epona..
After an hour or so of Epona showing Lildevilz
the ropes of the school, they sat down to have some lunch at the cafeteria.
Epona sat, dreamingly looking at the head of a Faerie Ixi. "Wow, he's just so
wonderful!" Epona remarked while sighing.
"Who's wonderful?" questioned Lildevilz.
"Hoji!" Epona said, still staring adoringly
in the same direction.
"Who's Hoji? And what's so wonderful about him?"
asked Lildevilz.
Epona jerked her head at the Faerie Ixi's direction.
"Who's Hoji and what's so wonderful?!" Epona said. "Well, his name is Hojimitsu
and he's the most cutest and coolest Faerie ixi out there! Anyone would love
to spend time with him!" Hoji turned his head in Epona's direction and smiled.
Epona paused and stared back. Hoji opened his
mouth and let out the biggest and most loudest burp. "He's just sooo lovely..."
Epona cooed, holding Hoji's gaze. The bell rang and Epona and Lildevilz quickly
gathered their stuff and walked home.

The months past and Epona and Lildevilz became best friends. They did everything
together. Then Christmas came...
"What did you get me!?" asked Epona in a excited
tone. "I'm not telling!" said Lildevilz, sticking out her tongue.
"Please!" begged Epona. "Fine! I got you a brown
Uni plushie! I saw it at the toy shop and it reminded me of you! So here!" Lildevilz
passed the plushie over to Epona smiling.
"I love it! Thank you so much! This is what
I got you!" Epona passed a small green book over to Lildevilz on the front it
said "Memories" in gold lettering.
"It's pretty, but what is it? All its pages
are blank!" said Lildevilz. "Its a memory book!" stated Epona. "We write all
the fun things we shared and we can paste pictures of our memories in it!"
"Wow! That's cool! I love it!" said Lildevilz.
Looking at the clock, Epona said, "Wow, it's getting pretty late... I must go!
It is Christmas Eve!" They both giggled as she walked out the door.

Many months later, Epona's birthday came trotting around the corner. On that
day, Epona came visiting at Lildevilz's house, her eyes shining like stars as
she walked through the door.
"What happened!?" exclaimed Lildevilz, prancing
up and down next to her best friend.
"I got a Wand of Ultranova for my birthday!"
Epona said, almost crying with joy. "I've been saving up for one since I was
little, and my mom just bought me one! I almost fainted when she gave it to
me!"
Lildevilz's heart almost stopped. A Wand
of Ultranova?! Lildevilz thought to herself enviously. Those are wicked
expensive!
"What's wrong? Aren't you happy for me?" Epona
asked.
"Uhh…" Lildevilz paused for a moment, "yes,
I am very happy for you. Happy birthday!" Lildevilz said with a fake smile.
"Well, I got to go now! I'll see you soon, okay?"
Epona said walking out the door.
"Bye!" Lildevilz said, her voice almost cracking.
She started to walk back upstairs when she saw a bag laying by the door. It
was Epona's schoolbag! Curious, Lildevilz started to rummage through it and
sure enough at the bottom of the bag was the wand of ultranova.
"Wow," she whispered under her breath. Lildevilz
took the bag and ran upstairs into her room. "It's just not fair!" she said.
"If I don't get to have one, neither should she!" Lildevilz said as she ripped
the wand out of her backpack. In that reckless movement, the handle broke off,
like the flimsy wooden stick it was.
Lildevilz suddenly realized what she had done.
"Oh no!" she shouted. What have I done?! I let jealousy take over! But...
maybe... maybe I can fix it before she comes back! she thought. As soon
as she thought that, she heard the door open downstairs.
"Lildevilz are you still home?" Epona's voice
echoed through out the house.
"Oh no! It's Epona!" said Lildevilz as she lost
the grip on the wand and watched it hit the ground and shatter into a million
fragments. Lildevilz heard the little clopping of hoofs going up the stairs.
As Lildevilz scurried to try to gather up all the pieces on the floor, the door
slowly creaked open.
"Lildevilz, are you in here?" Epona whispered,
walking midway into the room.
"Oh! I knew you were in here! What are you doi--"
Epona paused and placed her hoof over her mouth. She gulped hard and said, "Is-is
that my wand of ultranova on the floor in pieces?"
Lildevilz just stared up at her, looking into
her eyes. "Yes..." Lildevilz admitted, trying to hold back from crying.
Epona sucked in a big breath and grabbed her
bag and ran to the door. "I-I don't think we should be friends anymore..." Epona
finally said, bursting into tears as she ran out the door. Lildevilz was left
on the floor crying and speechless.
***
A day or so passed and Lildevilz tried to talk to Epona, but Epona just kept
ignoring her. Then a few weeks later, Epona moved to a different city. Lildevilz
realized she would never be able to make up for her mistake. As she was walking
home that week later, she smelled Faerie Pancakes. She heard a familiar voice
saying, "Lildevilz, wake up, honey!!"
Lildevilz's eyes slowly opened to see the face
of her mom standing above her. "You were having the dream again," Rissa caressed
her Draik's head gently. "I'm sorry it happened honey, but it was over 3 years
ago. I'm sure you'll see her again, someday..." Rissa quickly stood up, and
giving her Draik one last sympathetic look, walked out of Lildevilz's room.
Lildevilz got out of her bed and stumbled across
the floor up to her dresser and opened the drawer. She took out a small green
book with "Memories" written across it in large gold letters. The book still
smelt like pine, from the Christmas tree it had been under for so many days.
She felt the edges, worn down after all the years. She flipped through the pages
and tears rolled down her eyes as she stared at the pictures of them once happy
best friends.
She crept back into her bed and stared at the
ceiling. She wiped away the tears that gently rolled down her cheeks. She had
learnt that having cool items wasn't everything, but it had been a tough lesson.
And along with that lesson, she learnt that she had also lost a true best friend.
