NEOPIA CENTRAL - Petpets - we all know of them, most of us own one but do any
of us really know where they came from? It was around the 27th day of gathering,
year 2 that these mysterious creatures appeared in the market place and they quickly
became the big thing to have and they still are. With so much time and effort
being devoted to these creatures by the NeoPets staff someone has to ask are these
creatures worth it, and that someone is me.
Lets go back to the start when NeoPets was created, mysterious creatures who
we could adopt and many of us did, the available species grew as the lands of
Neopia were discovered. As the world grew other "things" were bound to be discovered
and this discovery was tiny "things" that tagged along with pets so aptly named
- petpets.
I personally do not see the craze that is petpets, however I own 4, not from
loving them but from having the money and spending it on someone, everyone else
seems to have a petpet why shouldn't I? But in checking the prices of these
petpets after purchasing them, I wonder is it worth it? I've bought very expensive
petpets for my pets, if not on some level, to show off about my riches. The
total value of my petpets comes to 100k at writing this article, so why do so
many of us choose to spend this money? I have no idea, but am just following
a craze like the mindless person I am, but others have opinions, one Neopian,
who shall we say has a slightly lacking brain has suggested that they brainwash
us, where as others have said they're just cute and everyone else has them.
So they brainwash us eh? Lets overlook the fact that this opinion came from
someone who really needs to see a psychiatrist and explore this. Could these
tiny creatures brainwash us into buying them so that some huge petpet gets all
our money? I am a firm supporter of this psychotic Neopian and agree with the
brainwash statement, its worked on me and other Neopians.
Now that we have established these creatures brainwash us into buying them,
lets look into how they were created, of course our resident lunatic, who for
humours sake we shall call Bob, has put a suggestion together, Bob believes
it was Adam and Donna on a coffee bender, but then again Bob also believes that
they are shrunken pets that caught on. I however do not believe either of these
statements, I believe they are crazed lunatics who are hell bent on taking over
Neopia and will stop at nothing to enslave the entire Neopian race, this is
of course my opinion, you may have your own.
OK, so far we have hell bent lunatics devoted to taking over Neopia who have
brainwashed us into buying them, thank you to Bob for that, but lets see what
they have made for them. Petpet paintbrushes, petpet plushies, petpet Battledome,
petpet puddle, need I go on? Almost every land in Neopia has a petpet shop,
if they are invading Neopia they're doing a pretty good job, the only other
store that is in every land is a food store, and food isn't invading Neopia,
yes Bob I hate to break the news to you, its just there to eat, so could these
little creatures be creating an invasion army that are going to attack all the
lands and rule? Lets look at one scenario of an invasion.
Neopia Central is first to fall, from there these crazed lunatics control
their invasion armies, the petpet stores are used as training bases and all
out attacks on the lands start in here, the Turmaculus helps destroy the already
wrecked Meridell and then moves his attention to the other lands. Neopets are
enslaved, owners are sent out of the lands and banished to Faerieland with the
faeries, where all contact with the outside world is cut off and where they
are made to make cheap shoes to sell on ebay to supply the petpets with
money to enter the real world. The petpets disguise themselves as Adam and crash
NeoPets, everyone is released into the real world and they turn their attention
to ruling America, they then attack the surrounding countries and rule the world.
Now before you go selling all your petpets and creating a safe bunker in the
real world, please remember this is just a scenario created in my mind of what
I feel crazed lunatics could do, but what if these petpets are simply innocent?
Lets interview one of the petpet store workers, the Usul from Neopia Central.
I: Thank you for agreeing to this interview, what do you think petpets are?
U: Cute, loveable creatures, you humans own pets why should we pets own pets?
I: But if that is the case, where does this pet owning stop? Petpetpetpetpetpets?
U: Those creatures would be very small indeed, I'm hoping it ends at petpets
but who knows what two humans could think up when they're dead tired?
I: Indeed, why do you think people buy these creatures?
U: A lot of pets I've seen walk past stare into the window, they long for
a little friend to share everything with, especially those without siblings
and owners who are barely with them, imagine being left all alone in a huge
NeoHome all day with the only contact a human for an hour a day or a week in
some cases.
I: That must be hard, what do you think to our resident lunatic, Bob's, opinion
that these creatures brainwash us into buying them?
U: Rubbish! Look at this Magaral, does it seem the type of thing that could
brainwash us all and lead a full scale mass attack on Neopia and the world.
I: Who mentioned an attack?
U: Umm, I think I've said too much, be gone!
Arriving back at my computer not remembering how I ended up in a ditch outside
Neopia Central, I set back down to thinking up reasons for these creatures,
and I found the best reason, there are no reasons. That's right, these creatures
have no reason for existing. They are simply cute, loveable, tiny things that
follow our pets around and like it or not there is no escaping them. Almost
every week new colour petpets are found at the petpet puddle, they are always
getting merchandise made, and this is even invading the real world. But invading
is not the case, so many of us love these creatures for what they are, cute,
and with the popularity of them growing its not surprising they are having merchandise
made of them for sale.
As I said many people are buying these creatures we call petpets, we give
them to our pets and they name them and play to them, in the case of my pet
even mould them in their image. The small yellow Puppyblew that followed him
home has become a horrible mutant Puppyblew that has a tendency to bite *nurses
wounds*. There are other sane pets who do everything for their petpet, the white
Noil my Poogle owns wants for nothing, it is well cared for, unlike the Puppyblew,
and is in control of its teeth.
There are so many species of these creatures, Noil, Meepit, Snowickle, Candychan,
Bluna, Babaa, Felf and Krawk to name but a few. A few of these are even closely
related to creatures we have all seen, the Turmac is related to the giant Turmaculus
in Meridell, the Snowickle to the giant Snowager in the Ice Caves of Terror
Mountain and the Krawk related to the loveable Neopets we can own. But why?
That's the question that's been asked countless times in this article with no
answer! There is no answer that doesn't make these creatures sound evil, maybe
that's the case, maybe it isn't, but who knows? I don't think anyone will quite
understand what these creatures purpose is, I hope I have helped you with a
few possibilities. One thing is for certain though, these creatures will never
drop in popularity and will hopefully be around for a long time.
