Just Like Kauvara

Tiffany was a normal yellow Lenny. She lived with her sister and her owner in a small NeoHome in Neopia Central. She had blue eyes and big yellow glasses and always wore her blonde hair in two bunches. She wanted to be special but she wasn't painted, she wasn't a fancy pet type, she wasn't impressively strong, she disliked fighting. She was very creative though, and was always sitting in the park thinking up what new colour combinations would look nice.

One day she was walking through Neopia Central and went into the Magic Shop to see if she could buy a Faerie with her pocket money. She saw one left, picked it up and walked over to the counter. No one was there, but she noticed a stack of papers with writing all over them, she picked them up and noticed that they were notes for a book Kauvara was writing about making potions. She quickly shoved them into her backpack when she noticed Kauvara was coming.

Darn it! She'll catch me! Tiffany thought, still closing her backpack.

"May I help you?" Kauvara asked, not even noticing the papers' absence.

"Umm.... I just need to, uh, pay for this, than I'm, uh, done," Tiffany stuttered.

Kauvara just looked at her, then took the Faerie and looked for a price. "That'll be... 1000 NP."

"1000 NP?" Tiffany asked, looking around in her bag.

"Yeah, that's a discount!" Kauvara said, as she smiled.

"I'll have to come back another time then.... sorry," Tiffany said, leaving the store, feeling slightly guilty.

Slightly later at Tiffany's NeoHome, Neopia Central....

Tiffany cracked her room door open, slid in, then shut it. She breathed a sigh of relief, then placed the papers on her desk.

"Okay... potions, paint brushes, codestones, Faeries..." she said to her self, as she leafed through the papers. "Wait a minute...." She did a double take, then went back a few pages. The page read:

Paint Brushes and Potions.

Ever wanted to know how to make a unique type of potion or paint brush? Well, just follow these steps, and you can!

1. Pick out two or more types of paint brush you want, and one type of species potion.
2. Take the paint brushes and dip them into the potion.
3. Mix with a rod of supernova, than let sit for half an hour.
4. Now the potion should be done! Enjoy!

She read the whole page twice. "Hmm... New type of colour...." She quickly wrote out a list of materials needed:

Cloud Paint Brush
Starry Paint Brush
Lenny Morphing Potion
Rod of Supernova

"I should have enough for all those in my savings account...." She grabbed her coat and the list, ran down stairs, and said she'd be back in an hour or so.

"Be back by eleven!" her owner shouted.

"Okay!" she called back as she dashed out the door and headed for the bank.

Neopian National...

"I'd like to withdraw some Neopoints, please," she said, handing over a note saying how much she wanted.

"Okay, Miss," said the Skeith handing over the Neopoints. "Have a nice day!"

"Thank you," she said before scurrying quickly out the door and towards the Shop Wizard.

"Could you search for a cloud paint brush please?" she asked when she got there.

"Certainly, hold on one moment please," said the Shop Wizard searching as fast as he could. "Okay, here are the cheapest options I can find," he said, pointing to five portals. "The cheapest one is the one on the far left; just step through the portal and you will be in the person's shop," he continued.

"Thank you," said Tiffany again as she stepped through the portal on the far left.

She stepped out on the other side and was shocked. She saw row after row of items at low prices. She saw a gentle looking Anubis at the counter and walked up to it.

"Could you tell me where the cloud paint brush is?" she asked, still looking around in amazement.

"Sure!" replied the Anubis. "Third row to left from here and on the middle shelf."

"Thank you!" she called as she dashed off. "I'm starting to sound like a parrot, with all these thanks I'm saying," she said to herself.

She found the cloud paint brush without much difficulty and noticed that the other items on her list were beside it. She checked her money and she had enough. So she quickly picked them up and raced back to the counter.

     "Birthday shopping?" the Anubis asked.

"Err, yeah," stuttered Tiffany, looking away nervously.

"'Err, yeah'?" the Anubis asked, suspecting something.

"Yes, that's what I said," Tiffany shot back.

"Okay, okay, sorry," the Anubis said.

Tiffany quickly paid for the items, stuffed them in her backpack, and left the store, leaving the Anubis in confusion.

Once outside, Tiffany ran though a field, or a 'shortcut.' Needless to say, she was in such a hurry that she was not looking where in Neopia she was going and bumped into someone.

"Oh, no! I am so sorry!" Tiffany exclaimed, trying to help the stranger up. Once she got a good look at her, she saw that it was a yellow Aisha with long dark brown hair, almost black eyes, who looked frustrated.

"Sure, uh-huh," the Aisha said. "I'm sorry. Just had a bad day at work," the Aisha added.

Tiffany looked around, only to find an 11-year-old girl who had brown hair and brown eyes.

"SunShine9102neo, will you come here?" the girl asked of the Aisha.

"Annette! I would really appreciate it if you called me Ki'loh. Please!" SunShine, er, Ki'loh replied.

"Okay, okay. Ki'loh, will you come here?" Annette rephrased her question.

Tiffany just looked at them. "Um... uh... would you mind telling me where Neopia Central is? I seem to have lost my way...." Tiffany waited for an answer.

"Oh, you're in Neopia Central all right. What side of town do you live in?" Ki'loh asked.

"Kind of in between downtown and uptown," Tiffany replied nervously.

"Okay then, you're in the right place!" Annette said.

     "Okay.... Thank you!" Tiffany yelled.

"Aloha!" both Annette and Ki'loh replied.

Back at Tiffany's NeoHome...

Tiffany finally made it home and found out by looking at the clock on the wall that she only had a few minutes to spare before she broke her deadline.

"I don't feel well. I am going to lay down," she said as she walked up the stairs.

"Pizza is in the kitchen if you want it later," called back her owner.

Tiffany flopped on her bed and got the objects she had just brought out of her bag. She then walked over to her desk and looked once again at the notes.

"Okay. Step one done," she said. "Step two... dip the paint brushes in the potion." She placed the paint brushes in the potion and then looked back over at her notes. "Step three... stir with a Rod of Supernova." She stirred the potion gently with the Rod of Supernova. It started to glow purple. "And then leave for half an hour. Okay," she said as she placed it in the far back corner of her desk. She then went down to get her pizza.

Half an hour later she returned to her room and saw the potion had changed colour to a deep blue with little clouds shaped as stars in it. She looked at it for a few minutes in amazement.
She was itching to drink it, but she knew she had to return the notes first or Kauvara might see her and she would have some mega explaining to do. So she safely stored it in her cupboard and went to bed.

The next day…

"Tiffany!" snapped the teacher, bringing Tiffany out of her thoughts. "Will we come back to Neopia please?"

"Yes, miss. I'm sorry," replied Tiffany.

It was ten minutes into Tiffany's math class and she was sitting looking out the window, worrying about what Kauvara would do if she ever found out. About five minutes later she stuck her hand up

"Miss?" she said. "May I go see the nurse? I'm not feeling too well."

"Sure Tiffany," replied the teacher. "Hope you feel better soon."

Tiffany gathered up her backpack and walked out of the class. Instead of going to the nurse, she went out of the school and ran home. As she passed the Magic Shop, she looked in and saw Kauvara. Kauvara smiled and waved, but as she did Tiffany looked down and ran away.

When Tiffany got home she told her owner that she wasn't feeling well and she was going to go to bed. As soon as Tiffany reached her room she chucked her backpack onto her bed and headed straight for where she was hiding the potion. She carefully picked it up and stared at it. She picked it up and was about to smash it when she heard her door opening. It was her baby Kougra sister, Becky, coming in. Tiffany quickly hid the potion behind her back.

"What are you holding?" questioned Becky, the ever so annoying Baby Kougra.

"Nothing you need to know about," Tiffany quickly replied. "Now go away, I want to go to bed again. I don't feel well"

"Okay," said Becky pulling a face as she left the room.

A few hours later, she crept downstairs and got a plastic cup. When she got back to her room she poured a small amount of the potion into the cup and drank it. She felt a tingly feeling and then it went away. She put the potion back in the cupboard and looked in the mirror. Her neck had turned a deep blue and had cloud shaped stars on it, just like the potion. She smiled and then went to bed.

The next few days went by with Tiffany drinking a little of the potion every day and covering up the changed parts, the second thing to change were her feet, then her wings, then her eyes. She continued going to school while she could cover up the changes, but then one day a patch changed on the main part of her body. She got worried.

"I can't go past the magic shop like this, she will know," she panicked.

"Time for school, darling," her owner called.

"Errrr… I don't feel well," she called back hopefully, she added a little cough for effect.

"You're not staying off today, you have that science test," her owner called back, "Five minutes or I'll carry you there myself.

Tiffany sighed. She had a thought, she quickly gathered up her stuff she would need, put on the longest and darkest coat she could find and walked downstairs. She got her lunch from her owner and then headed out the door. As soon as her owner closed the door and Tiffany knew she wasn't looking she dashed off towards the park.

When she got there she sat on a park bench. A few hours later a yellow Aisha and her owner sat besides Tiffany. Tiffany looked up; the Aisha smiled at her.

"Are you a spy or something?" asked the Aisha, seeming interested.

"Huh? Oh, no. Not me," replied Tiffany looking back down at the ground.

"Oh," said the Aisha, sounding disappointed for some reason. "Want some strawberry jelly? We found it in someone's shop; they were selling it real cheap so we got some. We have plenty to spare. Would you like some?"

"Sure," replied Tiffany with a little sniff.

"You're the Lenny that bumped into us the other day aren't you?" asked the girl. "Remember us? We're Annette and Sunshine, err, Ki'loh!"

"Oh, yeah..." said Tiffany after a moments thought. "Sorry about that."

The Aisha held out the jelly and Tiffany took off her glasses and took it.

"What happened to your eyes?" asked Ki'loh. "Those cloud stars are Über-spiffy! Did you, or your owner, paint them onto you?"

"Not exactly...." started Tiffany eating the jelly, "I kind of... um..."

She broke down and started crying, she explained everything to Ki'loh and Annette.

When Tiffany had finished Ki'loh gave her a hug and looked at Annette. Annette was thinking, she then whispered a plan in Ki'loh's ear who in turn whispered it to Tiffany. Tiffany stood up and wiped her eyes with her long coat and thanked the Aisha and her owner.

"Thank you again," she called as she headed for home.

That night when she got home she copied the notes and put them in her bag. She then drank the remainder of the potion just like Annette and Ki'loh had told her.

Then on her way to school the next day, she passed by the magic shop to see if she could return the notes, but Kauvara was sitting there smiling. She looked at her for a minute and then ran on to school. She just couldn't face Kauvara.

Later that day at school she made a special note and envelope, she placed the notes inside along with her special note and all the Neopoints she had on her. On the way home she walked into the magic shop and saw Kauvara was still there, so she walked up to the desk and handed over the envelope.

"Don't look inside until I leave, please," she said to a very baffled Kauvara, "I'm sorry, I just wanted to be special".

She walked out of the shop and bumped into Ki'loh and Annette.

Kauvara opened the envelope, and read the note.

Dear Kauvara,

I am sorry that I took those notes. But all I wanted was to be special, as of, I am very poor, and I thought that if I was a unique colour, everyone would think of me special. Here are the notes back, and the rest of my Neopoints. Thank you, for not getting mad at me, if you already knew that I took them, that is.

Signed, Tiffany J.

Kauvara looked up. Tiffany was still outside, She was talking to Ki'loh and Annette. Kauvara smiled as she got up.

Outside....

Suddenly Tiffany felt something on her shoulder.

"Who in Neopia...? Oh, I... uh... I mean..." Tiffany stuttered, turning to face Kauvara.

"It's okay," Kauvara said. "I just wanted to say, I'm not mad at you. I'm actuality quite impressed," Kauvara smiled.

"So, your not mad at me for stealing, err, taking the notes?" Inquired Tiffany.

"Nope. In fact... I'd like you to come and work for me at the magic shop!" Kauvara replied.

     "Really?" Tiffany asked.

"Really," replied Kauvara with a smile.

"Okay! Thanks!" said Tiffany smiling back.

A few months later....

*Ding* Annette and Ki'loh walked into the magic shop.

"Oh, aloha!" Ki'loh said, noticing Tiffany.

"Hi! May I help you?" Tiffany asked.

"Well... I think we'll just look around," Annette replied.

"Okay," Tiffany said, returning to her sweeping of the floor.

Ki'loh and Annette couldn't help noticing Tiffany had kept her Cloud/Starry colour. They went back to browsing, so they wouldn't seem as if they were staring.

"Ooh... Hey, Annette look at this potion," Ki'loh said, holding up an Island/Faerie Aisha Morphing Potion.

"Wow, that's spiffy! Kauvara, did you make this?" Annette inquired, taking the potion.

"No, actually, Tiffany did." Kauvara answered smiling.

They looked at Tiffany, who was blushing. "Tiffany," Ki'loh said, smiling. "You're just like Kauvara."
