Addiction Predicament: Part Three

by apparent

Untitled Document Saigru and Swirlyhorn returned home around 4 PM NST while clutching their earnings from playing Go! Go! Go! Swirlyhorn, being a bit egotistical, as usual, continuously bragged about her 34 wins to her brother, who somehow managed to make it through the walk home. She often took a few seconds to stop and dance in the middle of the sidewalk, strutting her legs to some song that played in her head.

"Ha ha, I beat you! 34 points for the wondrous Swirlyhorn." She bowed in front of the section of the Neolodge they currently lived in upon their arrival, causing an embarrassed expression to slide upon the Kougra's face.

He grimaced and replied, "Aw, hush up, now. It's no wonder your breath always stinks - you talk too much!"

Swirlyhorn shrugged and opened the front door. "Oh well, I still won. You just can't handle the truth - it hurts, huh?" The two slid inside, peering around for any signs of who might've arrived home. Unfortunately, Krawker sat on the gray couch in the living room; his homework sprawled upon the cushions. Saigru sighed with relief, not seeing his owner in sight yet. He closed the door as he and Swirlyhorn stepped into the living room.

"Hey, Krawker," Swirlyhorn smiled.

"Is mom home yet?" Saigru asked, and Krawker peered up hesitantly. There were times when he thought he "spoke too soon", and this had to be one of the worst. Krawker nodded slowly after some thought.

"Yes, she's upstairs, wondering where you two are. Jyrosen came back from school early, so she basically went crazy."

"Are you lying?" Saigru inquired nervously, dropping his bag of NPs to the ground. "Do I look like I'm lying?"

"Yes."

"Well, I'm not," Krawker blinked confusedly. "If you don't believe me, go up and see for yourself."

Swirlyhorn and Saigru exchanged worried glances and then headed up the flight of stairs precariously. Swirlyhorn muttered angrily to herself while advancing into the hallway. "I knew I shouldn't of gone out there in the open like that for so long.. Grrr.. it's all Saigru's fault."

Saigru followed closely behind, thinking that it was all Swirlyhorn's fault. They wouldn't have gotten caught if she didn't burst in on his game and win 34 times. Their owner quickly ran down the hallway once she caught sight of her two Neopets that were thought missing, flustered with anger and happiness as she managed to see the two. However, she was still angry enough to punish them. "Saigru, Swirlyhorn! Where have you been all day?"

Saigru gulped, "We went... to an after school program?"

"The school called and reported you both absent today, so you'll have to think of another excuse." Apparent sighed, "Krawker told me you rode the bus with him this morning, Saigru. Did you?"

"Yes, but I-"

"Don't talk back to me when I'm asking you a question," their owner frowned. "And you, Swirlyhorn, you didn't even make an attempt to go to school, or even ask me about staying home. I'm so ashamed of you, what were you thinking?"

Swirlyhorn made an attempt to give an untrue alibi. "Listen, ma, I was feeling sick-"

"WHAT did I tell you about talking back to me? Saigru, have you decided on whether or not you rode the bus with Krawker?"

Saigru sighed in return - obviously his owner was really fumed right now. She wasn't making any sense, and in return, he timidly stood, glancing around the hall.

"Answer me!"

"Now?"

"Yes!"

"I was trying to tell you that I did take the bus with Krawker this morning," the Kougra grimaced, knowing that his punishment would be a bad one. "Then when I got to school, I decided to go play a few rounds of Go! Go! Go! instead. I didn't mean any harm, honest."

Apparent stood back up onto the soles of her feet and frowned, "Fine. I wish you would have asked me before leaving like that, you always have me worried sick. In response, you're on punishment for the rest of the week. Come straight home after school and finish your homework. No telephone, and Swirlyhorn, no manicures." She looked over the two of them for a minute and then headed downstairs to prepare dinner.

Saigru frowned, "It's all your fault, Swirlyhorn, you and your stupid competition!"

Swirlyhorn headed towards her bedroom, with her brother following behind. For a moment she thought that it was all her fault, and now she couldn't use her precious manicure kit for the rest of the week. Slyly, she responded, "I know, Saigru, its all my fault. Let's just call the bet quits right here, right now, to put us out of our misery."

Her brother thought for a minute, and just as the Uni was about to slip into her room, Saigru challenged, "No--it's not over yet. I'm not going to forfeit, you'll just bug me about it the rest of my life."

"Alright," Swirlyhorn shrugged. "I still don't see how you'll be able to play that game while on punishment. Anyway, I'm going to sleep. Don't bother me."

The navy Kougra slumped against the side of the hallway wall while groaning miserably. He didn't want to lose this way, why not try? He never felt so determined about winning before, but there was just one problem: how would he play Go! Go! Go! while on punishment?

Saigru thought to himself for a long time. Then, a mischievous idea popped into his mind. There was a way to play after all, but would it work?
