Just Ixi: Part One

by superixionffx

My name is Superixionffx, but you can call me Ixi for short. Now if you will sit down, I will tell you of a story that happened not so long ago.

It all started in my NeoHome when I was sitting on a comfortable, green bean bag chair. I was leaning over a glass coconut table in the center of the room, with the bright light of a table lamp next to me. I believe I was reading A Big Book of Puzzles, which, although a newbie item, is actually quite entertaining.

I was interrupted by the sight of a blue Peophin gliding into the room. Her name was Shiva7214, my first ever neopet. I turned my head to look at her.

"I thought you were playing in the garden," I said.

"I was, but then I got bored. I’m hungry. What’s for lunch?" Shiva7214 bounced around the room and paused beside me, smiling sweetly.

Why does she have to be so cute?

I put a tab in my book and opened the big oak drawer that contained our food. Not much. I would have to go and buy some more.

Once we got out the door, I gave Shiva7214 a supersize so that I could ride her to the bakery. After all, she is only forty-four centimeters tall.

Once on her back, I was reminded yet again of her swiftness. She shot out the front porch, her mane stinging my face. Although Shiva7214 may look peaceful, she can be a bit hard to manage under some circumstances, like going to the grocery store or Faerieland. This was one of those circumstances. Shiva7214 charged past my friend, Dagger5101, (or Dagger for short)’s NeoHome, and I could see her playing in the yard with her starry Zafara, Xena2345. I tried to wave, but I lost my balance and snatched another handful of Shiva7214’s silky mane. We shot through streets, sidewalks, and yards, until finally I saw the bakery come into view.

"Stop!!!" I told Shiva7214, "We’ve passed the bakery!!!"

Shiva’s hooves stopped moving, but she still could not stop. I looked around to see where we were going, and my eyes bulged in terror. I was heading straight for Smallcreampuff (one of my Neofriends)'s NeoHome!!!!

I closed my eyes, waiting for the worst. CRASH!!!!! We had skidded straight through the NeoHome door, and the debris from our collision had halted us.

I stood up and turned to Smallcreampuff, cringing as I saw the door shatter like glass.

"Oh, dear," I said, turning a deep shade of crimson, "I’m so sorry!!!! Look, I’ll pay for it, okay?"

Smallcreampuff, who is a very nice person, smiled at me and said, "Oh, don’t worry about it. I’ve been meaning to have it replaced anyway!!" She paused for a second, then said, "It looks like Shiva could use a downsize. Here, my pets don’t need it." She handed me a downsize, and I accepted it gratefully.

"Thanks!!!" I said, and gave it to Shiva.

Shiva7214 didn’t shrink, even after we had given her two downsizes.

"Maybe it’s a disease," said Smallcreampuff.

"She went for a check-up yesterday." I paused for a moment, then said, "Shiva was doing fine."

"Well, there isn’t much you can do about it now," Smallcreampuff sighed and looked up at Shiva7214, who’s head was nearly touching the roof. "Would you like something to eat before you go?"

"No, thank you, we’d better get on with the shopping."

I lead Shiva7214 out the door and towards the bakery, lecturing her on her behavior as we went.

When we had finished shopping, I mounted Shiva7214 and tied the groceries to her battle saddle, which I always make her wear when I ride her, and then we took off.

This time, we didn’t bump into a NeoHome.

We bumped into an uncharted region of Neopia instead.

I must have been knocked out by our fall, for when I woke, it was nearly midnight. Shiva7214 had landed safely and was sleeping soundly beside me, the battle saddle still on her back. A fire had been built, and I glanced about, using the firelight to see.

We were in a forest clearing, the trees around us thick and dense. It was impossible to see outside of the clearing. The trees all had gnarled branches, but there was no sign that a Peophin had charged through them. I reached my hand through a small opening in the branches. As soon as I took my hand out, the branches fused together so abruptly that I jumped back in surprise. This wasn’t just any forest. This forest was enchanted, almost like a prison.

I moved closer to Shiva7214, and that’s when I heard it. Leaves crunched, and I heard the sound of paws padding through the forest, coming closer, and closer. I froze. It could be a Gelert pack, maybe hundreds, searching for a meal. And I could be the main course.
