Part II – The Crime of Theft
Aisha Dark Shadow went as quick as possible. Her gloves
would not produce fingerprints, so she was safe from people discovering her
identity. She walked up to the display and set her paws on the glass, and lifted
it gently. Placing it on the ground, she took out her other equipment and took
the object. She quickly stuffed it in her pack.
Before Aisha Dark Shadow left, she scribbled
a note hurriedly.
Dear Jinn Chia, I have taken your Air Faerie
Sword and returned it to its rightful owner.
Aisha Dark Shadow
The Aisha grinned and placed the glass back,
slipped it under the glass, and ran out into the night.

Amity yawned, shuffling papers as she sorted them sleepily. “You know what,
Shaina? I don’t think life’s so bad. It’s definitely better than being like
that rich and plump Chia, ready to be eaten by a Lupe at anytime” — Shaina thought
about Sir Chancellor at this — “and be surrounded by those stupid girls. I hope
we don’t have any crimes, though, because this work is hard enough. Leave it
to Agent Magnolia!”
Shaina smiled, agreeing. Luckily, they
had a vacation, while poor Magnolia had to be stuck solving and fighting crime
all the time.
As Shaina went back to work, her face grew serious.
She went through The Neopian Times, and found an interesting article.
“FAERIE QUEEN FYORA STATES SOMEONE STOLE HER
SWORD”. Apparently, it had been missing from the Hidden Tower for nearly a week,
and it strongly connected with the plump Chia.
After their sorting was done, Shaina and Amity
walked home. Shaina told her that she had to leave to go somewhere, and Amity
decided to snack on some food while she was gone. She promised not to touch
her slushies, though.
Shaina took out the card from Sir Chancellor
thoughtfully and scanned it in her brain. Shaina reached the area within an
hour. Good thing it wasn’t too far away, but it was very hard to find, since
they kept the building secret and hidden.
It looked much like her own job building as she
saw it. It was very laboratory-like and had grey walls and few rectangular windows.
There was also a metal door and cement steps that lead to it.
Shaina opened the door, and what she saw surprised
her greatly. She gasped at the sight of numerous gems, rock, and many other
strange objects lying on stones tables. They all sparkled in her eyes, and among
them were many vials and tubes containing experimental liquids.
“Welcome, Shaina,” came a voice, which she recognized
was Sir Chancellor’s. “I’m glad you have come and finally decided on your choice.”
“Yes, I have, Sir, but I’d like to know how
I can do it,” replied Shaina, looking around, then back at Sir Chancellor.
“That’s simple, Shaina. Look at the object I
had given you,” Sir Chancellor said, pointing at her pocket. “Since you have
decided, I will give you all the equipment you will need on your mission.”

Aisha Dark Shadow was the news of the entire week. Every Neopian was scared
that their precious items would be stolen from them, but since it was only the
first theft — and hopefully the last at that — they weren’t too worried.
“Isn’t it strange?” asked Amity. “We were just
there a few days ago, and I knew he stole it, and someone stole it back
from him! Hah, he was such a jerk, anyway. Pitiful fool,” Amity said with a
giggle.
“I think she left a note,” replied Shaina, smiling
at her friend’s words. “I mean, it would have been neat if she did, wouldn’t
it?”
“Oh, yes, a note! That would be fantastic, although
nobody had mentioned it yet. I wish she did, but I sort of doubt it.”
Shaina patted her friend’s back, trying to comfort
her. “There had got to be a note. Trust me on this one, Amity.”
Soon, the two Aishas went out to walk to the
laboratory, where they had to sort papers again. Except this time, they were
more excited.
“Tell me if you find anything interesting,” whispered
Amity, as they walked into the meeting room.
“Since there has been a criminal attack, there
will be more for you to sort. Take out the ones that have anything at all to
do with this ‘Aisha Dark Shadow’, and put it in a pile. After two hours, we
will meet back here and we’ll see what you’ve got,” instructed the President.
Shaina went to her office and sorted piles of
paper. “Neopians claim Aisha Dark Shadow stole their possessions. Aisha Dark
Shadow only struck once and isn’t likely to strike again. Aisha Dark Shadow
is against rich Neopians. Aisha Dark Shadow dislikes Chias,” mumbled Shaina,
skimming through all the articles about Aisha Dark Shadow.
Two hours finally passed, and the President called
them. He gave them Valentine Cookies, Pumpkin cookies, Scamander Cookies, and
Borovan Brownies to snack on, and some drinks to gulp down. Unfortunately, there
wasn’t any Rainborific Slushies, so Shaina got her own from her pack.
“Here are all the files, sir,” said Amity, as
she entered the room with a pile of papers. “Have fun searching through those,
sir.”
Shaina smiled while sipping her slushie. She
took a few brownies and some cookies, then turned to her pile. “These were mostly
nonsense. They all had completely different stories about Aisha Dark Shadow,
but I agree with Amity. Please enjoy.”
The President humphed and took the papers to
his office. “Good work, girls. Don’t eat all those snacks, though, they are
quite pricey—”
Before the President could continue, Amity took
a cookie and began eating it. “Mm, yummy gourmet foods! Where did you get all
that money, sir? And Borovan brownies, truly delicious, I only wish I could
stop eating them and leave some for you…”
The President sighed, “Alright, you get your
raise. Don’t ask me for another one until the summertime! Even then, I’ll think
about it. Don’t eat any more of my cookies, Amity. Now, get back to work, everyone!”
At the back, some Quiggles were talking to each
other. “Hmm, maybe we could get a raise that way too!”

Days later, Aisha Dark Shadow stole more, and the reports said she left notes,
saying that she had returned the item to the real owner.
A Moehog ran past an old Meerca and stole her
purse. She began to yell frantically and tried to run after the thief but was
too slow and out of breath. A few days later, the old Meerca found her purse
in her Neomail box, and a Moehog had reported something stolen from him.
Another case was when a suspicious Koi crept
into a family of Zafaras’ home, and stole all their Neopoints they kept with
them. Luckily, they kept a lot of their savings in their bank, but more than
a quarter of their Neopoints were gone. Not long after, another robbery was
reported of Aisha Dark Shadow stealing from a Koi. The day after that, the family
found a pile of Neopoints on their dinner table.
More and more reports were made, revealing only
little truth. Many of the cases were frauds, and claimed that Aisha Dark Shadow
stole from them for no reason at all, some saying that Aisha Dark Shadow attacked
them.

“Exceptionally good work!” praised Sir Chancellor, clapping. “You have helped
many Neopians, I can tell you that one thing. I hope you will decide to continue.”
“I will,” assured Aisha Dark Shadow, grinning.
“I will continue this for whatever it takes!”

Shaina and Amity walked from work, the sky becoming dim, and their surroundings
growing dark. They had passed Haunted Woods, and were entering Neopia Central,
when a dark shadow followed them.
The shadow came in front of them, and there stood
an evil Aisha; black, with deep red eyes, shredding fur, and fierce claws.
“Aisha Dark Shadow…” Amity half suggested, half
stated.
Shaina knew it couldn’t be Aisha Dark Shadow.
It couldn’t be — she was Aisha Dark Shadow!
The evil Aisha came toward them. “Not Aisha Dark
Shadow, puny Aisha, The Evil Eyes Aisha.”
Suddenly, without warning, The Evil Eyes Aisha
came darting toward them. He tackled Shaina, and since they were walking on
a small mountain, she began to fall down, seeing only blackness around her….
