DRAIK DAY SPECIAL

Persevere
By Kikiscamps_mom

Many years I've quested,
Many lands I've roamed,
Many oceans broad I've sailed,
Yet still I walk alone.

Beauteous festivals I have seen,
Luscious fruits I've tasted,
Through desert heat and snowy storm,
My time has not been wasted.

Hope was my shadow companion,
Through all the miles I've trekked,
Seeing the joy of others I smile;
Believing I'll be next.

In a tempest I struggle on,
Through jungle's reaching vines,
In the dark I stumble upon
What I've searched so long to find.

Feverishly I grasp the mottled egg,
Holding it to my chest,
I soldier on with lightened heart:
I'm halfway through my quest.

One evening under twilight stars
We reach the hatching ground,
With trembling fingers the egg I place,
Scooping warm sands all around.

Patiently I'd searched the globe,
Patiently now I waited;
The egg began to wobble as
Its cracks became striated.

Then from the broken shell emerged
My beautiful new Draik;
I gathered him close into my arms,
My pet I'll never forsake.

A Toast for Draik Day
By Cynnick

Once upon a Neo-time,
Not many years ago,
The world was so much smaller
Than the land that we all know.
We dreamed of exploration, yes!
Of lands as yet unknown,
With valiant knights and noble kings
On jewel-encrusted thrones,

But these hopes and dreams
Were just a distant fantasy,
Until the day three children made
Them a reality.
For they found Meridell,
A land of sorcery and swords,
Caught in an epic battle
Between two embittered lords.

But that's not my story,
Though it's quite a thrilling thing,
And I'm not here to wax about
Illusen or the King.
The greatest thing to come from Meridell,
Make no mistake,
Is that dragon among dragons;
The best Neopet! The Draik.

Have you ever glanced up
At the blue Neopian sky,
Just as something lithe and swift
And elegant flew by?
Somersaulting through the air
With laughter in its wake,
Beautiful, yet powerful and mythic?
That's a Draik.

If you see one, swimming through
The airways like a fish,
Close your eyes and count to three
And quickly make a wish.
They're rarer than a shooting star,
And twenty times as fun,
And if you find a Draik egg,
That makes you the lucky one!

But should you chance to meet one
Over in the Battledome,
You're better off to pack your weapons
Up and head back home.
Unless you're fond of rockets,
Burning sores, and fire spouts,
You ought to choose a different sparring
Partner for your bouts.

For though the Draik is playful, wise,
And loyal beyond measure,
It's still a dragon, and
A dragon always gets its treasure.
But what the Draiks don't know is that
They're worth their weight in gold;
A greater treasure than the vaults
Of Meridell can hold.

So raise your cup and toast
The golden apple of our eyes,
Illusen's pleasure, King Skarrl's army,
Champion of the skies.
And here's to merry Meridell,
The place they make their nest,
But mostly, here's to Draiks,
The darling dragons we love best.

Valrigard the Draik
By Skgurlzguild

Stretch my wings of blue, of grey
A freedom's chance awaits today
A fleeting glimmer of hope, of sun
Years of darkness finally done

Curse this castle of Meridell
With horrors and secrets they never tell
The lies they spread and initiate;
Within me, I yearn and hate

A trial of justice they never lead
Contempt with what the guilty feed
And me? I pay for all their crimes
As I linger here one final time

Grarrls patrol across the floor
Korbats fly from door to door
Color of royalty, burns my eyes
Dripping red poison from above high

I skirt around, I fly to shade
I pierce their skin with my sword's blade
A smile of mirth, a cry of outrage
No bars can confine me within prison's cage

A mistake you made in your scapegoat
For my pride refuses to grow demote
Strip me of life, being to be marred
But my soul remains as Valrigard

Tomorrow, all the folk will sing
And convicts'll speak of escaping
I now depart, seen here no more
Though my spirit remains in their choir

Stretch my wings of blue, of grey
My freedom's chance is won today
A lasting ray of hope, of sun
Years of darkness finally done.

The Draiks of Meridell
By 56dragon_fire56

O Draik knight with scales that shine,
Awakened at the dawn of time,
Sleek in features, full of grace,
With fire in each fierce face.

Flames come screaming out each jaw,
Sunlight gleams upon each claw,
Out of egg, out of negg,
They woke in lands barren and raw.

A dark cloud came in from the west,
And thought it may be good to rest,
Over the lands the Draiks infest,
Over the lands the Draiks liked best.

Darkness reeped and darkness seeped,
It got so the Draiks could not sleep,
They waged war, they'd settle the score,
So Meridell could be free once more.

Blades they forged of dragon hoard,
The eldest one would be their lord.
Hammer ring and metal sing,
The eldest one would be their king.

The Draiks fought clad in metal bright,
The Draiks fought hard through day and night,
The flames they breathed were quite a sight,
In Meridell that night.

They thought they won, but then there came,
A mighty, muddy, splashing rain,
It became the dragon's bane,
They could not fly, and they were slain.

Still this cloud hovers Meridell,
How long it shall no one can tell,
But we'll wage war, we'll settle the score,
And Meridell will be free once more!

Empress of the Sea
By Wicked_summer

Now you see her, now you don't
Darting amongst the golden fronds
Soft light reflects from her white coat
Above her the waves toss and heave

How my soul cries out in yearning
For the peace beneath the waves
Ever teaching, ever learning
Of the underwater world

Webbed limbs and graceful body
Purple eyes dance with life
Meet the empress of the ocean
The embodiment of my delight

Her domain is that of pure beauty
Soft white sands and slender trees
Taller than those on the landmass
Swaying, swaying, in the breeze

Watch as she finds the water's heartbeat
Rides the currents far below
Speeds through silent ocean forests
Rising high and diving low

Steep spires rise above, around her
Homes of coral on the ocean floor
Still she swims, one graceful movement
A flash of white in Maraqua
