Thief in the Night

Eastward Kreludor rises,
Casting silver hues, person
Shifting shadows,
Dark and deepening.

"Thief," says the wind,
"Meerca," breathes the grass,
From shadow slips a lone being,
His face hidden by a guise.

Open window high beyond,
Locked door and picks ahead,
Movement silent for fear of sound,
From a hidden place the picks revealed.

Slowly through the creaking keep
Creeps the thief in the shadows deep,
Past the king and court, in their loud sleep,
The Guard far off, the length of a leap.

Here be the wood of Meridell,
There are the hinges wrought of steel,
Iron Eyrie head, shining with gold gilt,
To open this door could not bring guilt.
Sliding through the entry,
Shutting it without tail caught,
Greedy eyes seek treasure wrought,
Packing sack with rings bejeweled.

Into the night he slips again,
The Meerca Thief of Meridell,
Who is to tell,
If he'll leave the golden crown of Skarl.

Maraquan Meerca

Deep down beneath the ocean blue
Maraquan Meerca, grey of hue
Drifts silently along the tide.
The gentle current he doth ride,
With spikes and scales, alert and free,
He travels through the ageless sea.

A hidden glint in silver eye
Betrays the creature, coy and shy.
He lingers in the swaying weeds,
No better hiding place he needs.
Yet in a flash he darts away,
No hint of splash or ocean spray.

A bubble rises from the deep,
Within this cavern he doth keep
Small treasures from his sodden world:
A curly shell, a silver pearl.
Maraquan Meerca, rich and free,
Mere whisper on the ageless sea.

The Chase

The Neggs are laid out,
The hedges are trimmed,
The young Meerca wears
A half-insane grin --
He is itching, impatiant
For the chase to begin!
He is really quite sure
That this time he'll win.

He rounds the first corner,
He sees his first prize,
The bright yellow Negg
Sets a glint in his eyes...
He's got it! But then
The awful suprise:
His very own tail
Will serve his demise.

He still has a chance left,
And he knows that it's true;
His heart leaps with joy
At a quick flash of blue.
The Fish Negg will get him
Undoubtedly through.
This will be a difficult,
Great thing to do.
Going... going... going... GOT IT!
He would never have thought it.
He had finally caught it!

Now there is nothing left to do.

Meerca Chase

Yellow, blue, green, rainbow, fish
Spring slapdash with a pop!
Helter-skelter Meerca hops,
With merry tail a-swish.
Charging after glitzy Neggs,
He zips dynamically;
Dodging red-for-jeopardy,
He sprints on eager legs.

Up and down, and left and right
The Reds close in with zeal,
Meerca turns sharp on his heel,
Escaping through gaps tight.
'Round he goes! And 'round some more!
Unflaggingly he'll race:
Animated by the chase
Of Negg v. Meerca war.

Though now of those Red Neggs clear,
To catch his breath -- no chance!
Must keep that exertive stance;
A wall is looming near!
Twisting out of danger's lane,
Paced like a lightning flash,
Closer -- closer -- closer -- crash!
