The Mountain Queen

At night, when river valleys deep
and bitter peaks of heights so steep
fall to the darkness of the night,
she soars in cloak of shadowed flight.

The exiled queen of days of old
who ruled atop a mountain gold
while those below looked on in fear
of ruthless scowl and treach'rous leer.

Yet then they came, and by some might
she lost her first and final fight.
How happened it remains unseen -
mere humans quelled the mountain queen.

But for her pow'r, her rule was just,
unblighted by the builders' lust -
a tow'r of steel where once was set
a throne of brilliance, gold and jet.

So every night she flies again,
around the forts of mortal men.
The builders' death this Hissi brings
for it's not they who bear the wings.

My White Weewoo Friend

The ocean's arms did hug the rocks,
A warm, solemn embrace,
Did kneel before the scorching sand
To shed sea's silky lace.
And soaring so very high above,
A creature immersed in white sheen,
Looking down with an intent gaze,
Eyes; coruscating lakes keen.

Feathers rained into the light of dusk,
A flourish; what a sight.
Wings beat to a melodic rhythm
Outlined with pure moonlight.
It then let out the most piercing cry
"Woo woo!" was how it went.
A sound that sent a chill through me,
A distinguished lament.

I, hearing this shrill wail, plodded
Toward a loosening limb,
Only to see a creature perched there,
Petite and fairly slim.
Reluctantly I released a trembling finger
And placed it at its feet.
To my delight, I felt talons
Find a relaxing seat.

And with that, its tail bounced;
It let out a chirp of glee.
He bored into my deep eyes,
Feeling as safe as can be.
I just vented out a giggle
and gave him a gentle nudge.
Thus a new friendship was planted
And it could never budge!

Journeys

O'er emerald trees above white clouds
A Pteri soars through crisp cool air
Wings waving with a rhythmic pulse
Transport the Pteri everywhere

Above Terror Mountain through icy wind
Our Pteri leaves the Bazaar behind
'Round crags and peaks piercing polar air
Through Shenkuu a Pteri dips and climbs

A vast blue ocean rests far below
Pteri scans an azure sea
Sailors claim they ride the wind
As the Pteri glides, he might disagree

No time to rest small weary wings
So many leagues still left to fly
Looking south the Pteri discerns
Fyora's castle in the sky

A final push and the Pteri's home
A trip so few will ever share
In dusky forests by Meridell
Our Pteri makes a home in there

Taking wing on moon filled nights
On zephyrs ascending from earth below
Pteris gather on the breeze
And travel where I but dream to go

Autumn Days

With winter on its way
Put your Jubjub hat on
And come on out to play

Crunch some leaves in your hands
And toss them in the air
See the sparkling, diamond frost
And watch the bonfires flare

Snuggle under blankets soft
And toast a ghost marshmallow
Stare above at icy skies
Wait hopefully for snow

Autumn's wonders all are here
Crisp leaves of smart, bright hues
Fun-filled days and cosy nights
Delicious Borovan stews

So gather 'round the fireplace
And dream of autumn days
When winter's gone, it won't be long
'Til spring is on its way

The ghastly winds their calls attune;

And bid all comforts disappear.

On every nook and every bend
The wraithlike shadows all descend;
On every grove and every dell
The ghostly darkness sends its spell.

The specters twine and dark winds heave
Upon the glumness of the eve;
As torrents frisk and dull leaves seep
To send all spirits from their sleep.

With midnight stir all from their rest
To frolic in the nightly zest;
To dance and whirl in the moon's eye
'Ere morning sends light to the sky.
