I walked alone, trembling as I breathed
Towards the Adoption Centre.
I found myself feeling proud to know
A pet would find a new home.

As I walked in, a Uni smiled at me
She could see I was ready to adopt.
She led me to a room where the pets lay
And told me to choose as I pleased.

I didn't go for looks or personality, no way
I looked for the connection between us
The Neopet that I'd feel was the one
Would be my final choice.

As I looked my heart began to thump
Beating like an African drum.
Every pet looked at me with hope
That they would be the one.

Sadly no one made any connection
The little something that I looked for.
It seemed to me that they were just pets
Not the one who'd become a part of me.

Then... I saw her... looking beyond the window
Where she stood looking lonely.
She seemed to be in her own world
And yet I felt a strong connection.

I chose her even though she barely noticed
She walked on as if she had no choice.
As we got home she wondered as before
Next to a window where she gazed outside.

I knew there was a mystery to this pet
Something must have happened.
She must have been struck by sadness
That just any living creature couldn't take.

I walked to her and looked in her eyes
In them I found a story
And for a second, time had stood still
For we were connecting.

"What's wrong?" I asked with hopeful ease
"Please tell me so I can help you."
She looked at me and tears I did see
that lingered in the Aisha's eyes.

"My name is Rose," she uttered softly,
"I had an awful past,
But in your eyes I see you care,
They say that you are kind."

I guess that she had felt the connection
as clearly as I had.
And right there and then I knew
our friendship had begun.

The Humble Uni By Arachneafemella

As Grace the green Uni quietly read,
She heard the things the other Unis said.
"I can't believe she wears glasses, Maureen!
She's the most ugly Uni I have ever seen!"

The others were preening, brushing their hair,
Grace looked at her mane, and she didn't care.
She liked being quiet, not haughty and bold,
For looks would vanish when they all grew old.

Even Polly, her sister, looked down on Grace;
She thought she was plain and out of place.
Polly loved mirrors, combs, and pink fluff.
All Grace did was read lots of stuff.

When Uni Day finally came around,
The Unis were excited, making lots of sound.
Away to the Faerie Queen they all went.
But they didn't like Grace,
So back home she was sent.

"You're missing one, a little green girl.
The only one among you
With her hair out of curl."
The Faerie Queen noticed
That Grace was not there,
One Uni replied, "Ignore her, it's not fair!"

"She doesn't act like she should,
She isn't even cute!
While we sing and laugh, that loony goes mute!
She doesn't like perfume and jewels like we do-
Grace doesn't even own any shampoo!"

The Faerie Queen shook her head with a sigh.
"True beauty is something
Not seen with your eye.
You all may be gorgeous,
But your attitudes are not.
I'm a little disappointed in this shallow lot."

They saw the error of their mean ways,
And now Grace is included in all Uni Days!
She has taught us a lesson, and soon you will see:
Being humble and kind is the right way to be!

Lovely gleaming coat.
Uni shampoo does the trick.
She's the prettiest.

Uni of the stars.
Flying, leaping, wondering,
Beautiful creature.

Unis gracefully
Wander through Neopia.
Admired by all.

The golden Uni,
A mocking smirk on her face,
Carries her head high.

Little vain Uni
Looks into the swift river.
Oops! She slipped and fell.

Unis hate the mud,
Yucky, squishy in their hooves.
They want to keep clean.

Faerie Uni grace,
So happy and full of bliss.

Stuck Down the Wishing Well By Baggoluva

It's quite a funny story to tell
On how my beautiful Uni,
Got stuck down the Wishing Well
You see, she wanted to make a wish
Throwing the NP in... she missed
She climbed up on the well,
To retrieve the NP
Climbing she was, I watched carefully
To my horror, she slipped and fell
Down and down the Wishing Well

I called down to her, "Are you OK?"
"I'm stuck!" I heard her say
I called for the Faeries,
For them to help my Uni
One by one they all showed up,
Except for the Dark Faeries
The Faeries agreed to help,
And flew down the Wishing Well,
"OUCH!" I heard my beautiful Uni yell
She appeared to have broken her wing
So to sooth her from the pain,
The Water Faeries began to sing

My Uni got out safe and sound
And now she refuses
To take her hooves off the ground

The Mystical Uni By Too_kule

The Uni is as amazing pet,
Flying in the sky,
Watch them soaring over you,
Watch them pass you by.

Many do not like them,
Some think they are vain,
But is it really a bad crime,
To want a well-kept mane?

And pretty is not all,
There's more to them my friend,
Fight one in the Battledome,
And you won't last 'til the end.

Plus they're also smart,
At more things than just looks,
Some Unis are just so smart,
You'd think that they eat books!

So Uni Day has come and gone,
I hope you treated your pet,
And get a Uni, it's not too late!
There's plenty you can get.
