Mutant Musings
by avelaingia

I find many Mutant pets rather adorable.
Not every last one, no, but plenty.
Their uniqueness, to me, is anything but horrible.
If I could, I would soon adopt twenty.

The Mutant Acara is a glamorous monster,
So stylishly hued and designed.
(I'm aware it may sound as though Sloth is my sponsor,
But I swear this poem isn't that kind.)

Or take the humble Lenny, who blends so well with a group,
That our Curator friend rarely gets funny looks.
He's got oddly shaped feathers and a bit of a stoop,
But he's as neat and tidy as his shelves full of books.

Or how about the Aisha, in loud pinks and blues?
One of the most memorable Mutants for sure.
Such crowd-pleasing colours delight and amuse,
And they won't make you sneeze, thanks to not having fur!

The Mutant Bori is another I hold in high regard.
I find that cheeky grin quite endearing.
Aside from the risk they'll dig up your whole yard,
They're one monster that doesn't need fearing.

I mustn't miss mentioning the fabulous Pteri,
A vibrant-coloured wyvern straight out of a book.
I suppose some may find the three yellow eyes scary,
But I think they go well with the dragonesque look.

I could go on much longer, but you get what I'm saying:
Don't write these sweet oddballs off on a pretence.
Like any other pet, they love attention and playing.
(Though your backyard may need a more fortified fence.)

Of course, not all Mutants are pleasant for viewing,
Though it's all quite subjective, I'd say.
Consider what many other Neopians are doing,
And build your fierce, many-eyed army today!

Same Inside
by achtland

I see your fear dancing in your eyes
I hear how you recoil and deflect with lies

Behind my back I hear the taunts
I'm just like you with likes and wants

They told you I am different and not quite right

I may not have the just two eyes
I may have wings but cannot fly

The mutant colouring suits me a T
Just like you all I can be is me

Don't get caught up on looks and in your pride
The outside may be different but we're the same inside

How Mutants Came To Be
by tchiang11

The nefarious Dr. Sloth set out an evil plan
He was to rule Neopia with all its many lands
Using his greatest weapon, he began with his mind
This of course, would be his greatest and best design!

He cackled and laughed with a wave of his hand
"I've done it” He cried, “My potion is now grand”
Dr. Sloth gave away this liquid, grinning with a smirk
Knowing that the Neopet, would surely go berserk
Upon a single swallow, the Neopet began to shake

The owner began to cry, “Surely a mistake!”
The Neopet emerged, lying on the floor
Arms then grew, not one, or two, but three and four!
Alas came the mutant, eyes beady and bright

Horrified, the owner stared, it was really quite a sight!
And so the mutants came to be….
With Dr. Sloth, the evil genius, smiling in jubilee.

Ode to the Neocola Machine
by trubiekatie

As we celebrate our annual Mutant pet day,
Some will order food from the Grundo Café.
But if you’re looking to make a pet of your own,
There’s a way to mutate than adopting a clone.

The trick? The Neocola Machine on Kreludor;
Think of it as a random transmogrification store.
Your pet will turn mutant with one sip of the potion,
In a terrible, crazy, awful commotion.

It accepts neocola tokens, in red, green or blue –
Neopoints and other items simply won’t do.
Then select which Neocola flavour to try,
There is no secret winning one – I wouldn’t lie!

After the flavour, press the red button once or a lot,
We aren’t sure if more pressing helps your shot.
Finally, your prize will pop out and hope you’re lucky,
Or wind up with a Lint-Covered Peanut, how yucky.

On this Mutant Day, I thank this special machine,
For being the way to get my Mutant Pet in green.
I know it’s a long shot, but if I play I might win!
I’ll walk away with my pet’s new toothy grin.

Mutant Acara
by acaesha

Eyes pale blue crescents
Smile luminescent
A break in the abyss
Comet contained

Change to danger red in your rage
Wanted release
Fury uncaged
You're loyal but never tamed

Majestic horns frame your face
Curled like smoke undulates
Sharp spikes run down
From forehead to back
Peeking through fur dusky brown

Armoured scales on shoulders
To shield an attack
Paws mountain miniatures
Broken but held together
Like galaxy bonfire
A blue almost black

My Mutant Friend
by chincer

I knew that we were friends,
Since the moment that we met.
You didn’t saw a monster,
Didn’t try to run away.

I’m not ugly I’m just different,
This is just how I will end,
If you give me a wicked potion
Or you zap me with that ray.

Little morphed, plenty changed.
But inside I’m just the same.
I will love you, I will hug you,
Just like any of your pets.

Now I have to celebrate
Because it seems it is my day
Glad to have you in my life
And to be your mutant friend.

Mutant's Lament
by trois

With closed ever-watching eyes,
I sleep. I rest. I ponder.
I seek —
Lost Souls
To guide into grey yonder.

Before my might, they cower
And weep. But
Do not fear me, little one
I have no shortage of souls
To eat.

Under my guidance,
You shall find yourself
A creature of twisted light.
Those who abandoned you shall run
Just to escape your sight.

They fear that which
They refuse to understand.
Though they created and
Cursed these forms
Upon us.

We rejoice them now,
As they cower and cry.
Too late they learn
A Mutant’s Curse
Is also their Gift.

So let them run. And scream.
And rue their broken design.
We shall not give chase.
Take my tentacled arm in hand
And give our brethren space.

Together, we can build
A much greater tomorrow.
Wherein Our Mutant Kin
Can live in peace,
Without torment and sorrow.

We are one and the same,
Though we may look different.
Do not avert your eyes.
We seek love like any other, and will
Until, we too, are prized.

Drink the Potion
by actiontal

Monsters reaping through my brain
Dark faeries navigate my chart
Sloth and rage barely keep me sane
Neopia’s curse scrapes my heart

A reprieve, so Sloth says aloud
Accept who you were meant to be
I drank the potion filled with cloud
And wait for Sloth’s guarantee

Sinew and flesh stretched across bone
Hair out of place and dimpled skin
How could this monstrosity have grown
Revealing the revolt deep within

A mutant stands before you here
Not a canvas for your coloured brush
Tentacles and spikes can’t interfere
Sloth’s glory could not be rushed

Restless now, but more than whole
A beast reflects back at me
I finally feel in control
Grateful to Sloth’s transmogrify

Unequivocally Me
by parody_ham

I’m a mutant, it’s true,
But I’m not feeling blue.
For despite my looks
And my horned hooks

I’m feeling quite giddy,
quite striking and pretty,
And happy to be
Unequivocally me.

Don’t dread the scales
And thick, striped tails
Nor squirmy things
That talking brings

To light, tentacles fright.
Listen to me in the light!

Don’t believe the tales,
Lose yourself to details
Of creepy mutants lurking
In mucky forests murking.

I’m a mutant Kau,
Don’t run away now!
For in my four eyes,
I spy a surprise.

When you hug my fur
And see you’ll never
Have fear again,
A moment of Zen.

I’m a mutant, it’s true,
But despite my looks
And my horned hooks
I’m not feeling blue.

I’m feeling quite giddy,
quite striking and pretty,
And happy to be
Unequivocally me.

The Mutant Manifesto
by swordlilly

Hop, flip, slither, crawl,
Come one, come all, big and small.
Gather round and blink your eyes,
Wave your appendages; shake the skies!

Feel the grass and touch the stones,
Feel the life in your blood and bones.
Turn around and raise your face
At your own unhurried, steady pace.

This body of yours that has suffered pain
Has nonetheless carried you, time and again
Through joys and sorrows unique to you.
It isn't perfect, but it's seen you through.

The stares and judgments others may throw
Will fall by the wayside, and you will grow.
Though some days are grey and the hours long,
You have been and will continue to be strong.

So hop, skid, and slither on!
Allow yourself to reach and yawn,
To cry, to roar, to be alive,
To eat, to laugh, to sleep— to thrive.
