The Beauty Contest Hopefuls

As pretty as Litemites,
with manes brushed 
and smiles optimistically glowing.
The contestants stood upon their podiums, striking poses and grinning,
with claws trimmed and hooves polished; 
the beauty contest hopefuls 
were the envy of the town.

As handsome as bouquets of Asparagus,
they bided for the Neopians’ votes 
to win the title as the most beautiful Neopet, 
with only the most expensive clothes and wigs, 
with fur groomed and horns shampooed, 
the beauty contest hopefuls shouted, 
“Vote for me! Vote for me!”

As gorgeous as Fyora,
with teeth flossed and necks perfumed, 
the contestants competed bitterly for a week,
fighting like they were in the Battledome 
for every vote they received,
with scales glossy and feathers preened, 
it was Friday... it was over.
The beauty contest hopefuls sighed with relief.

As attractive as Jeran, 
with eyes drooping and mouths yawning,
the contestants gathered their trophies 
and plodded slowly toward home.
With beds made and blankets nice and toasty, 
they put their new trophies on their shelves...
and the Beauty Contest hopefuls went to sleep.

Puppyblew Eyes

I sat beneath the Money Tree,
Digging through items eagerly.

My obsession for freebies wasn't healthy,
Since I was already pretty wealthy.

I always sat beneath the Money Tree,
Waiting for books and toys to come to me.

I had no friends or other company, 
Just alone with my thoughts 
Of "FREE! FREE! FREE!"

Then, one day, as I rummaged through,
I bumped into a Puppyblew.

I sat down and asked it, 
"Where is your owner?"
It said, "He abandoned me, 
So now I'm a loner."

How cruel of that owner to leave it behind!
Maybe I could change his mind?

I looked around and around but he had gone,
So I said to the Puppyblew, "Come along."

It happily followed me as I walked to a shop,
Where I used my Neopoints to buy a mop.

It wondered "Why a mop?" 
And it made many guesses,
Before I finally told it, 
"To clean up your messes."

From that day on it lived with me, 
And our time spent together filled it with glee.

Out of all my time at the Money Tree,
A new friend was the best gift I ever received.
