Summer Comes
By Concertogreat_8

Summer,
the symphony of a year
in its third movement,
like leaking honey
over the lands of Neopia,
glazing one side
whilst the other is iced,
locked in darkness;
we have all the light.

Summer
and warm rain falls
on the heads of daisies,
caresses the cheeks
of the pets who hurry to and fro
like sweet tears.

(in the fields wheat undulates,
a parched golden sea,
stretching upward
into a cornflower-blue sky)

Summer,
the reaper is at the ready,
his scythe a diamond in the sun,
slicing swathes that fall
to a cracked brown ground,
his harvest.

Summer,
time is at once arrested
for a brief moment of forever;
days stretch out,
diffusing into a far-off future,
lackadaisical in short life,
before extinguished by autumn's grip.

The Hunt
By Dragonstorm_75

The murky depths conceal the hunter,
Ploughing through the lightless banks,
A sinuous body streaming on by,
Past the rocks -- the ocean's flanks.

Sibilant tentacles, fluid and not,
Pull away sea-grass to catch sight of prey.
The Acara's maw pulls back in a grin,
Surely luck is on her side today.

A shadow of shadow, the quarry moves close,
Tentacles flex with ill-masked expectation.
Time ticks away like a pulse in the water,
Until at last all is brought into action.

The hunter comes forth with swiftness of thought,
The ocean around her churns, distraught!
Foam and debris embraces all sight,
Much is uncertain, but is the prey caught?

The chaotic maelstrom of tentacles settles,
Inky blackness now swirls all around.
The shattered current resumes its course,
And yet she's alone: her catch is not found.

Thwarted and tired, the hunter retires,
To the cavernous hollows of old coral'd rocks.
The Acara's hungry, but with patience well-learned;
She continues her vigil by the tall kelpish stalks.

Swimming Lessons
By Jayo289

Just flip those fins, my little friend,
Back kept straight, and tail extend.
I will help to guide your way,
As you learn to swim today.

Your eyes are filled with anxiety,
But soon you'll traverse this great sea.
You've so much that you will explore,
As you wander along the ocean floor.

Your first adventure will soon begin,
So ride the waves and stretch your fin.
But never fear, for if you falter,
I'll protect you from any danger.

As you paddle into the blue,
I'll teach you just what to do.
With me beside to give you aid,
Swim with me, don't be afraid.

A lesson that you won't forget,
Swimming is your best asset.
Soon you'll be gliding through the deep,
Along the sand your form will sweep.

So flip those fins, my little friend,
See the beauty as you descend.
I will help until you're grown,
As you learn to swim alone.

Flotsam Day: It's Never Too Late to Celebrate!
By Saqo

Today is quite the special day
when Flotsam come out to play
and celebrate the fact that they
are celebrated far and wide today.

Think you have to go to Maraqua
to see this fine pet in Neopia?
Why no, they can come on land
as well, what a wonderful skill!

Although they enjoy water, oceans
rivers and streams, land is just
as easy for them. And so all over
today, they will be celebrating!

But there is one Flotsam who might
not be as excited as the others.
Have you ever been to Mystery Island
and heard, "I'm making Broiled Olives!!"

And then you are demanded to find
some items as quickly as you can?
Why these are the "Kitchen Quests",
and this Flotsam is quite the man.

He's always in a bad mood, and he's
always busy! You see, since the royal
family lost power, this Flotsam has
been feeding the great Mumbo Pango.

Now perhaps you haven't heard of him,
but take it from me, HE IS BIG.
And therefore he eats so many meals,
every five seconds, if he can manage.

And so this Flotsam asks for help
from us to help him feed the beast.
But the problem is the quests are so
expensive, almost no one can succeed.

Well, with him aside, I think we
can say for sure that come today,
there will be Flotsam all over
celebrating and dancing away!

Well, wouldn't you? And if you have
a Flotsam, make today the day to show
how special they are, and perhaps
complete a Kitchen Quest -- just one?

Happy Flotsam Day!

Nimmo's Pond
By Moulinrouge21

Weaving through the lily pads, flowers in bloom,
The Nimmo swims, exploring the room.
Water never-ending, weeds grow high,
Surface glittering beneath the morning sky.

Deep, deep down, the water grows dark,
The home of many, who have made their mark.
Rocks provide shelter, sand for camouflage,
Who know what lies within that soggy marsh?

Lying on his back, basking beneath the sun,
The Nimmo relaxing, sound there was none.
Minus the birds, tweeting gently afar,
The sun blazing brightly, a beautiful star.

Lilies sit delicately, buzzing nearby,
The sweet scent of flower, travelling high.
The Nimmo smiles happily, life complete,
Listening carefully to the pond's beautiful beat.
