I used H1 has my main heading, and H2 as my subheading, because it is very easy to remember H1 comes first and H2 second. Also, again, it is standards compliant! Also, you can keep adding more headings (up to H6) if you need them!

Sometimes, you might also want to use H1 as your main heading, and H2 as your subheadings for content, and H3 as your subheadings for your sidebar -- that is how I do it!
