Introduction
Somewhere in the heart of Haunted Woods the dry, hard ground gives away to swamplands. There are not many people who know of this place, and even fewer who have ventured inside it…For although the swamp covers a vast area, it remains vastly unexplored. Rumors of malevolent spirits circulate the area, and although none have been proven, the folk who live in that area are very superstitious. And they have a right to be so. Even for those who know not of the truth of the swamp, it is a daunting place. For even during the day, it is foreboding. The gnarled trees seem to have a mind of their own-a mind that portrays a being skulking in the darkness, waiting for a chance to snag unwary trespassers. But at night…At night, no man is brave or fool enough to venture near that swamp.

Darkness seems to come quickly to the swamp-quicker there than to the surrounding area. It cloaks it, and blots out the features. Even if one doesn't believe in myths of vengeful spirits, one could step in quicksand and never be seen again. The exact terrain of the swamp is unknown, although villagers who dwell outside it have speculated on it. There is said to be a hill that rises above the land, with an ancient tree perched upon its summit. The rest of the swamp is half-submerged in water. There are many trees there, the kind that don't drown, and even during the day, the thick canopy blots out the sky. Reeds and other swamp plants grow amongst the roots, water, and fallen trees. In reality, it can appear like an average swamp…Except for one thing.

The villagers have a name for it. They say it's a her, a restless spirit come to seek her revenge upon the living. She takes the form of a white krawk, and carries with her a lantern at all times. They know this because sometimes she appears at the edge of the swamp, to watch them, perhaps. They say she devours everyone who comes into or near her swamp. Those would be unwary travelers, looking for a shortcut around the lake through the swamp. The villagers find their bodies, mangled and lifeless washed up on the shore, or lying on the outskirts of the swamp. They know they are her victims, though they don't know who she is. All they know is that she is female, and her name. They call her Yihane.
