You gaze in awe at the beautiful underwater scenery. What intricate corals! Swarms of silver glittering fish surround you, glistening in the sun's rays. You hardly even wonder what you are doing under water in the first place. Just as the thought occurs to you that you can't actually breathe here in the sea, you are surprised by a voice behind you. "Hi there, guest!" You wheel around, emitting a burst of bubbles, and see a small ghoti hovering in the water in front of your face. "We've been expecting you," he says, gliding slowly towards the reef.

Some time passed before anything happened. But then the young Draikess awoke to a deep voice. "Lady," it said, "Lady." She turned to her side. She could not see anything, but the voice was calm and reassuring, she closed her sense to all but this soothing voice. "Leave him here," boomed the voice gently. "Leave him. The sea will take care of him." At this, the Draikess' paws loosened to reveal a small Draik baby. It was weak and feeble. The currents rocked it as it rolled from the Draikess' arms. Its stripes glowed only faintly, like his mother's their light was slowly fading. "He will be safe," repeated the voice. "As long as I am here, nothing in the sea will ever harm him. The waves shall lull him to sleep, and even the lowest of the creatures shall not touch him. The currents will obey his fancies, and he will always have enough. Sleep now, he will be safe." With that the Draikess closed her eyes, and fell into a deep sleep. As the tempest continued, her stripes faded completely, and the child was
picked up by the current and carried far, far away.
Not much, but enough to let it know that winter was coming to the northern seas. This was the case with Fesk. The slight chill in the currents fed his desire to travel again, and he grew restless. Ice! He had heard other creatures talk of it, though he doubted that many had ever ventured so far north. Mountains of cold white ice. He could scarcely imagine what it was; but as his dreams had more giant cities of this white, cold material every night, the curiosity inside him grew and grew, until he resolved to voyage up to the northernmost seas to see for himself. It seemed a grand adventure to him, and he could scarce wait to reach these mysterious waters.
And so he embarked on his journey. The first few days, he swam at a slow, steady pace. He passed through jungles of thick, luscious green kelp. Fesk marveled at these immense plants. They were so plain, yet, in a way, beautiful. There were swarms of many-colored fish, mainly silver. Thousands of them, all together. How great it must be to be with so many others! And then there were lone fish that blended in with the kelp, much like himself – as he passed through the forest, his body color changed from kelp-green to dark blue. He watched in amusement as silver shapes danced across his skin when he swam past the schools of silver minnows.
The creature revealed itself to be a fish; A Soreen, to be exact. It was a peculiar creature with shimmering scales of varying shades of blue, and frilly, lavish fins. It looked puzzled at Fesk's camouflaged body for a second before realizing where the Draik's head was. "Hrmph," it muttered. But Fesk still did not reply, leaving the Soreen dumbfounded. Seeing that this so silent Draik was not liable to harm him, the Soreen turned to Fesk, swishing his tail with a slight uncertainty. "Hmm… Seeing I am not eaten yet, I assume it was your intent to save me. In that case, many thanks." By now, though, Fesk had glided over to a clump of seagrass, and let the non-glowing parts of his body blend in, while blushing ever so slightly. "Are you embarrassed to have saved me? Well I guess that Draiks don't usually save their food. Can't you say anything? Are you mute?" As the Soreen said this, Fesk tried to bury his face in the greenery. The Soreen watched, puzzled by this Draik's actions and wondering what to do next. "Maybe I should
introduce myself then. I am Zoran. I live hereabouts. But now I am forever indebted to you, and will follow you to the ends of the earth." At this, Fesk, with considerable difficulty in overcoming his shyness, extricated his head from the weeds.
The seas became rough and wild, unlike the smooth seas of the tropics that only occasionally were subject to storm. Fesk felt alive. At times he would display very un-Fesk-like spontaneity and leap clear of the surface only to be pelted down by battering rain and high waves. Roaring with laughter, Fesk breached the surface once more to taste the sweet rain. Zoran was shocked by the young Draik's sudden change of nature. True, there were no other creatures about, but in his short time knowing him, Zoran had never seen Fesk so vigorous. And so they traveled on.
Soon they were met by the first snow flakes, then by a first, albeit tiny, chunk of ice.
Fesk gazed at this little frozen piece of water, fascinated by it. "Look… Zoran!" he exclaimed in glee, shoving the small piece of ice under Zoran's nose. Then he held it up to the sunlight. It shimmered with a million colors. He resolved that he would keep this tiny fragment as a souvenir. Zoran, who was not as delighted by the ice, wanted to explain that it would melt, sooner or later. But as he looked at Fesk's joyous face, he decided to leave him the fun and tell him later. But it came as it must, and only a few hours of carrying along his precious shard of ice, Fesk found himself empty-handed. He nudged Zoran gently "It's… gone…" Zoran saw the sorrow in Fesk's eyes. "Fesk… it's ice, it has to leave sometime.
Ice disappears when it feels like it." He was aware that this was somewhat of a lie, but he wanted to phrase it gently, for he knew that Fesk tended to be sensitive. Somehow he felt that Fesk liked
having someone around with whom he could relate to and converse; Fesk had indeed lost a lot of his initial shy towards Zoran, and enjoyed telling him about everything that fascinated and begrudged him.
Fesk's sorrow at the loss of his piece of ice was short-lived, for soon the two companions reached seas filled with ice, and to Fesk's ever growing amazement, the icebergs became taller and taller the further north they moved. And the icebergs not only reared up high into the sky, but also deep into the sea. The tunnels which they created underwater were a constant source of amusement for the little Draik, and Zoran, though less enthralled by the majestic sculptures of ice, sped along, too. "Zoran, there must be a city of ice around here! Let's go find it!" Fesk's enthusiasm overwhelmed the poor Soreen. Zoran had never heard of such a thing, a city of ice. But little was he aware that Fesk had been dreaming for a long time of cities sculpted of ice, and that to find one was Fesk's only goal.

Ono laughs. "Zoran is a close friend of mine. The story has, without a doubt, introduced you to this very quirky character, and showed you how two so very different critters came to be together.

Ono pauses and you can tell that he is about to launch into another one of those lengthy speeches… "Well… For one thing, you could always count on Barking to shower her pets with excessive love. That may sound really nice, but to be honest, I think my pet has gotten a bit too much affection lately. Another reason why we need someone new in the family. So that Vee will finally get only a healthy dose of love.
But on the more practical side: Barking tends to keep all her pets in the NeoLodge. Not, of course, because she doesn't want them, but so that she has time to earn neopoints to get them cool things and makeovers, and so that she can work on her petpages in peace. And yes, she is very enthusiastic about making her pets an own personality, a petpage, and, of course, plenty of adoptables. Not only does she work tirelessly on art and BC entries for them, she also gets other people to portray them. My pet, Vee, for example, has a very large collection of art that other people drew.
And then there would be the issue of painting Fesk. Barking would love to see Fesk as a beautiful Maraquan Draik. She isn't that fast of a saver, because she has a busy life off Neo, but she does continuously save. Barking has about half the money for a Maraquan paint brush saved up. In the meantime, she would probably paint Fesk Camouflage."

In her everyday life, Maya is a quirky high-school senior. She is very content to act like a child (and she is nearly 18!), and those who know that she still plays Neopets often say 'Wow, Maya. You really are still a kid!', and she replies, smiling 'and I wouldn't want it any other way!'.
Yes, she is kind of weird. Maya is a slightly above average student, but she usually doesn't like talking about school grades that much. She much prefers running off on random expeditions with her friends at lunch.
She recreated an account with that name as her side (but it is, I must admit, fairly inactive). Her main (and the only account she really uses), is "barkingzebu."

Erm…. This picture is NOT of Barking. It is actually a picture of the rare Flumblegamazoo, a species on the verge to extinction. I guess Barking didn't want me to show you her real picture. Oh well, … I guess I'll just continue normally then.
Ono looks to both sides nervously before starting. "This here is Vulkanwave, he usually goes by Vee or Vee-Dawg. I guess you would call him my owner. He is a vain, selfish, ADD-plagued lunatic of a Lutari. Vee somehow feels the need to stick ridiculously colored feathers in his tail and behind his ear. Maybe it's his fashion sense. I've never been able to figure that out… He's won some trophies in the BC, and unfortunately that has only made him worse. He is sorta friendly,… that is, if you're not competing with him for anything. But who knows… maybe he just isn't quite normal because he spent most of his life on his own. He really loves me, though. I mean, he's nice enough… but… I guess he just has quite a few faults. He's going to be really cross with me when he finds out I've been helping Braking get a Draik. He really doesn't want any new pets in the family…
And this here is Wavebreezerider (Wave), Vee's older brother. He's of a very caring sort, but years of travel in some unknown lands have made him seem harsh and cold on the outside. He dearly loves his little brother, yet he left him alone for a long time to go traveling. No one really knows what this guy thinks, and maybe it is best that no one ever finds out. But in a way, I guess he is still the most normal of Barking's pets. He purposefully has no design, so that Barking is free to experiment with different looks. He was also kind enough to lend Barking this petpage for Fesk's application.

However charming the little Ghoti might be, he is starting to bore you with all his babbling. You stifle a yawn, and as you open your eyes again, you see strange little draik figurines lined up on a barnacle-crusted rock. Ono turns around and sees you staring at them. "Oh," he exclaims, "I'd better tell you all about these. Barking thought some adoptables would be nice for this app, so she made these little chibi Draiks. You're welcome to take one if you wish. And if you want a custom, I'm sure Barking would willingly oblige. Just ask her. But mind you that you don't go claiming them as your own, changing them, entering them in contests, or removing the credit. She'd be very upset if you did, and it would probably end up in you getting reported."

Ono smiles. "The best way to contact Barking is through her main account, barkingzebu. She is online several times throughout the day, and would enjoy a lengthy neomail conversation. But if that isn't enough, she also has AIM and MSN. Feel free to message her anytime! She always enjoys a nice, friendly chat!"

Ono turns to you. You can see that he is really exhausted. All those long speeches must have tired the poor fellow out. "Phew," he sighs, "we've finally reached the end of this application. I'm sorry it took so long, but there was so much that needed to be said. I hope that you now have a fairly good idea of what kind of person Barking is, and what would be in store for Fesk if she were to get him. If you have any questions at all, or would like to get to know her more, feel free to neomail her. She's friendly and doesn't bite, and she really does like having normal conversations with other people.
