Ashton's Guide to Luck and Chance Items
So, you like to gamble. Little tiny neopoint jackpots are dancing in front of your eyes. But the slots don't seem to do it for you, and the stock market is SO slow. Never fear my friends! Let me tell you about the funnest way to win neopoints, items, paintbrushes, and jackpots in Neopia - luck and chance items!
That's right. There's ITEMS that give you MORE ITEMS when you open them. There's items that give you NEOPOINTS when you open them. Nothing quite compares to the rush of scratching off scratchcards! (Not to mention the possible prizes!)
Of course, no one can guarantee that you win. Then it wouldn't be "luck" or "chance", would it? But I can fill you in on all you need to know about the items themselves, the prizes, how to use them, and where to get them.
Scratchcards
Let's start with the easy stuff (and my personal favorite): scratchcards!
There are three different Neopian worlds that scratchies come from - The Ice Caves, The Deserted Fairground, and The Lost Desert. Each world has different varieties of cards, and different prizes.
You can go directly to the scratchcard kiosk in each world and buy a card. However, you can only buy one every six hours. Also, the card you are given is random. That means you usually get the most common variety of card for that world, which doesn't usually have the best prizes. Your best bet if you want to sit down and tear through ten or twenty scratchies in a gambling haze is going to be buying from the shop wizard or trading post. Or you can just

Goodie Bags, Crackers, and Stockings
These are items that give you more items. They are released on a seasonal/event based schedule. You can get Neopets Birthday Goodie Bags, Usukicon Goodie bags, and Trick Or Treat Goodie Bags. But they are never the same bag twice! For instance, the items in a Neopets 5th Birthday Goodie Bag are different than the items in the Neopets 6th Birthday Goodie Bag.
The items in the Bags are related to the theme. For Usukicon bags you get Usuki themed items, For Trick or Treat bags you get spooky items, and for Birthday bags you get festive birthday items like hats, pinwheels, tambourines, etc.
The thing about these bags is that they are only released once. The current amount of 3rd Birthday Bags, for example, that are floating around in Neopia is all that there will ever be. They will never make more 3rd Birthday Bags. Nor will they make more of the items that come out of them. (Though they could in theory change their mind, it's not happened yet). That means that the prices of the bags and the prices of the items will only go UP. That makes these a good buy if you want to open them and hold on to the items, or just hold on to the bags themselves. This is called item investing, and it's a great way to make NP as well as have some fun!
Crackers and stockings are the same. Expect toys and candy when you open these. Squee!
