I grew up in a clumpy town. Not a 'whitewash the fences twice a year' type of place. I can't remember my parents at all. I was raised in foster care and my foster parents (if I may call them that) did it for the money. They were always out of their mind and such and the only time the place looked half decent was when the inspector came along on his yearly routine. Not that he woulda done anything about it anyways... he was always so good at not noticing the cockroaches living in the kitchen, the rats under the couch and so on and so on.
I was 14 when I lit out of there fast as I could, high school drop-out.. yeah. I got involved in a small group of street boys, did a bit of robbery and conning but I wasn't really in to the whole 'thievery' aspect, it was just so boring, so I left the gang shortly after I had joined it. I got a job at a local gas station, filling up the cars. That suited me just fine. I got cash, and it gave me plenty of time for ... other things. I still work there too, as a cover-up job of course. Don't want the government into my personal business.
My life really isn't much. I mean hey, it's not like I've ever been shipwrecked on a desert island or anything. Amazing adventure stories? Yeah, don't got any. The most exciting thing that ever happened to me? Well, I guess you could say it was Svithin's mob, though, that was also the worst thing. I was found by Svithin when I was 17 years old. That's exactly 4 years, 2 months and 27 days ago, I'm too lazy to count the hours and minutes, but I could prolly figure it out given a couple minutes cause you see.. well anyways I'm not gonna get into that.
What do I do with my time you ask? Well, I do a lot of thinking, planning and research. I may look air headed but I do have a college degree in engineering and another in plannification. See, Svith noticed something in me that know one else did. He noticed my mind, and my mind, could bring in the greenbacks. So, he paid for my education and promised me the life if I did well. And y'all know what the life means for a slumdog like me right? Well anyways, that suited me just fine. I've a knack for figuring things out and I did both programs in half the general amount of time it's supposed to take.
I don't know if I mentioned this already but my favourite thing to do is sleep. It's so easy you know. Just lie down and close your eyes and peacefully drift off to dreamland and dream about .... okay well I won't get in to that just yet. But the only thing that keeps me away from those dreams is Svith. Shucks, if I didn't have that guy to drag me outside, I'd sleep all day. It's one of the only ways I can get out of my mind. I need to get outta there sometimes, it gets too hard to bear at times.
Dantes! Open up! We know you are in there! I rolled over and groaned, what did they want now? I stared at the empty case of bottles and put the pillow over my aching head. Darn them and their murderous banging. Dantes this is your last chance! There was a loud crash as the door was smashed down. Heavy boots clumped up the hall and into the bedroom. Boss! I found him! -more loud boots thumping- "You idiot!" Grabbing me by the shoulders he picked me up and shook me. You have a new mission. Get ready and be outside in 5 minutes. With that they returned down the stairs making even more noise than before.
I got up. Someday they would pay for this. Putting on my pants I mulled over all the things I would do to them. My head aching I grabbed my gear from the closet and went to meet the men. 10 minutes 34 seconds Vincey, your getting a bit slow 'eh". I glared at him and shoved a couple of painkillers down my throat. Okay, let's go. I'm ready.
I am a strategist in a mob band. No one knows except my pal Jude, but he doesn't believe me since I only talk about it when I'm -not all there-. Of the men in the car I only knew one, Romulo, personal bodyguard of my boss Svith. The car pulled up in the back of an enormous factory. We entered though the back door and into an elevator up to the top floor, which was like way to high. Then to the office, the gold letters E.K.SVITHIN hung proudly on the door. Bah. I entered alone, the men waited outside, how odd.
Ah, hello Olla. (Olla is my mob name by the way, it's a funny story how it came to that but I'll save it for later..) I have an assignment for you. (Duh well obviously, what a dunce.) But it will be a bit different this time. There's no way everyone you send it will get out, so plan carefully and find some street rats to fill in the holes, I don't want to lose any of my men in this. Here are the blueprints of the terrain you will face. Good Luck, give me a full report when you finish, if you do. And, do not fail me Olla, you'll regret it. I glared at him, that was a pure threat.
Once home I locked all the doors (which had been fixed btw) and drew the curtains. Looking over the blueprints, I could tell Svith was right, there's no way everyone could get out alive. I stayed up all night trying to find an alternative, searching for a way around this insanity. What was Svith thinking taking on a job like this? He was getting too spicey for his own good and was making me take the blow for it. This plan was going to need major altering, and quick.
*knock *knock* *knock*
I shivered nervously, if Svithin knew what I was up to Frith knows what would have happened to me. I'd know if this was a good idea if I was still alive in the next couple of hours. I stood up straighter and tried to look professional as the door opened. "What to you want boy?".
Hi there Mr.Ward, I'm a student from the Academy and I'm looking for a mentor, I have this problem with a project see and..
A project? At this hour of the night? What are you rambling about!"
Well it's due tomorrow see and I thought since your light was still on I'd..
Impossible youngsters! Very well then, but make it quick. I've no mind to stay up much later."
I was taken aback, this was easier than I thought it would be. As soon as we were in the office I chose a moment his back was turned and stuck him with a sleeping dart from my pocket sized blowgun. I caught him just as he hit the floor and set him down. Now, where did he keep his client files?
I had just enough time to lock the safe and shove the file in my back pack before Ward started to come to. "Oh Mr.Ward! What happened! You just fell straight on the floor, do you have these problems often? you really should rest Mr.Ward, here let me help you up. I'll call a cab to take you home, never mind me, I'll manage by myself. Here,s your coat." He stumbled around as I called the cab, It was there within moments and I helped the old man in, taking care not to let the cab driver see my face, I knew that with the dose of tranquilizer I'd used on Mr.Ward he (Mr. Ward) wouldn't remember much at all, not before I'd figured everything out of at least. Soon as the cab was out of sight I lit out of there so fast you'd think my tail was on fire. I reached my apartment and locked myself in, checking every inch of the place to make sure so one had crawled in while I was away. When I was satisfied, I opened my backpack and took it out. The legendary Alreck file.
Now, I know your wondering how I knew it was there, the Alreck file that is. And more importantly how I got it out of Mr.Ward's secret safe in the first place so I better tell you to clear things up. See, the file Svith gave me was a copy of the blueprints in the Alreck file. An altered copy. Svith didn't know of course, he was all proud of himself for having it in the first place, but a genius like me well.. it only took a peek to see what was wrong.
Before I get ahead of myself let me tell you about Alreck, it's a huge company, with one of the most heavily guarded buildings in the country. They have cash of course, but that's not what Svith was after, no, Svith was after the power. See, The owner of Alreck is Svith's greatest enemy and competition. They'll never be peace with those two, both are too big for their ego, and greedy beyond words. If Alreck were gone well, you get the jist.
Now, I know this, Alreck knows this and the police know this. There kinda three that neither gets along with the other so it's kinda hard to find balance. It's up to me to keep up to date on who stands where. Though technically I could ignore the police since their too scared to do anything about what's going on around here. So when I'm not figuring out stuff for my boss, or posing at the gas station, I'm on the wires. The wires are something I invented myself. The device looks kinda like an ipod (it used to be an ipod) but it's connected to bugs planted a little all over the place, mainly important places like any big-shot lawyers, accountants and the like. It's easy for me to switch around and listen to the different channels, or different conversations, so to speak.
Mr.Ward is quite an important figure here, he's the only guy in town that refuses to work for Svith, he's also the only guy in town who hasn't been severely hurt for refusing to work with Svith. I'm not really sure why Svithin keeps him around but I knew there was something about so I planted a bug in his wallet (I used to be an expert at pick pocketing you see) and kept my headsets on. I heard about the blueprints being in his office for slight changes (Mr.Ward is a brilliant architect and ex-crime layer, which is the reason I assume Alreck didn't use it's own architects) that's how I knew they'd be in the safe in his office. Finding the safe was easy enough, it was behind the bookshelf, it is always behind the bookshelf. People do need to be more creative, Geez. And opening it was a joke for someone like me.
To be continued...
You know how to play that game
even though you're the only one who plays
so attached to the feelings that you fake
your weakness is your only strength
Your so emotional yet
I don't think you feel anything
so conversational everytime
you start to scream
Are you bored with the life you chose
you pushed them all away you know
you never aloud yourself to grow
are you angry at me, now that you are exposed
Your story was always based on fiction
so many layers of contradictions
only your fear has driven your decisions
has pain become your own addiction
