Welcome

Listen to our tale

Our world was born in chaos. It is cursed to die in the same fashion. Welcome to your demise.

They had their talons digging into us, and the chains were thick, but our planet turned against them. Now, it's our turn. Our hide is tougher than theirs, so we survive, we thrive. Who are we? Well, there are many answers. We are the mermaids, haunting the ghostly depths of the ocean. We are the vampires, creatures of night and fury who prey upon those weaker. We are the incubi and succubi who drain the very spirit of who you are. We are the shapeshifters and the kitsune, we are the nekos and the elves. We are the essence of nightmares. And this is our place now.
We stole the world from the reckless humans. We took it for ourselves when the planet itself revolted against its inhumane treatment. Now, the only humans you will find are underground, safe from the raging weather and waiting only to become nourishment for one of us. For awhile, it was the golden age, everyone had what they needed. The mermaids got regular supplies of humans in exchange for safe travel, and those on land got as many as they needed. There were just so many of them still... until. You see, what you have been told is our past, golden and glorious. But the world you are in now is the present, and our future looks bleak. Run if you can, but if not, you'd best take a side and hold your breath. You're in for the ride of your life.

Rules and Regulations

Oh, hello there! Welcome to the guild's website. It is run by me, Rae, and if you have any questions, please neomail either Overlord Pony or me, raeflower360yo. Anyway, what are we? We are an advanced literate group of role players who are here to play out our sci-fi and/or dark fantasy plot which takes place on a different planet. Don't despair or worry about the plot or setting being too confusing, I plan to sort that all out here. But before we get to setting and the like, you should probably know our rules.

The Rules
o1: be literate.
We are an advanced literate guild, which means in role play, we want you to use annoying rules like grammar and punctuation and capitalization. Now, in out of character posts, you can drop the formalities, but please don't use chat speak. It burns. You must also indicate at the beginning of each post whether you are about to say something in character or out of character. Don't make it a huge banner across the post, two to three letters will do. As far as post length, we don't want five forced posts of awful literature just so we can say "hey, all of our members post a lot!" We would rather have at LEAST a paragraph (That's about ten sentences people, not a fourth grade paragraph) of quality work. We understand writer's block on occasion, but not for every. single. post. Savvy?

o2:be active
Now, we know that neopets and real life are not synonyms. However, time was put into this guild to make it a good place for people to express the crazy side of their brains in role play. For that to happen, you have to be here. We won't have sweeps every week, but we will delete you from the guild if you are inactive to the point that no one remembers who you are and your characters have cobwebs in their hair. That being said, you can tell us if you're going on vacation or hiatus or need a break from our awesome plot to refresh your mind, and we will make sure to brush the cobwebs off of your characters for you so when you come back, they're all ready to go.

o3: respect each other
You are not the only member in this guild. Now, I have to admit, I am a drama queen. I personally love watching internet arguments, and trolls amuse me. But I also know that others hate that kind of thing. So, we would ask that you take it outside if you have a conflict, but before doing that, just try to be the bigger person. If you are fighting on our board, there will be a problem, and if it gets too bad, you will be removed. That's that. Another thing that people don't think about with respect is fonts. Make your font easy to read. If it is bright and hideous, I will offer to make another. If I do... please accept my offer, because your font is probably melting my eyes at that point. If another member's font bothers or offends you, kindly ask them to change it, or, better, offer to help them make a new font. Don't bash other people's fonts unnecessarily, though. Be nice.

o4: do what is expected
All of the rules above are rules that by sending in an application you agree to. You also, by sending in the application, are stating that you understand the rules and you will do the things that this website asks you to. Please know that any punishment will be decided on the severity of the act, and that Pony's and my words are final.

When you're New

So, if you have sent in your application and it has been approved by Pony and/or Rae, you have been accepted into the guild and should receive an invite. After accepting your invitation and joining, I know you may want to go straight to role play, but here are some suggestions to get you started in the guild. Items marked with an * are required before you begin role playing. The others are merely suggestions.

o1. Introduce yourself on the board.
o2. Neofriend Rae, or other members you have spoken to.
o3. Edit your member blurb and send it to Rae.
o4. Read the entire web.*
o5. Create at least one character following the rules and limitations of our species page. *
o6. After completing these, you should be good and ready to begin role play! Head over to the board and find someone to jump in with.

Ranks
These are the ranks you hold in the guild, and hold no relevance to what you can role play. You may be moved up in rank depending on activity, post count, members recruited, and other worthy acts that Pony or Rae catch you doing. If you wish to host a page, neomail Rae to ask what you can help out with.
♟ human
This is your initial rank. You will stay here until you have at least 100 posts, but bear in mind that you having that number of posts doesn't necessarily mean you go up a rank, that just means that without that many posts, there is no chance of you moving up.
☾ vampire
This is the rank after human. It is the rank that you very well may be during your stay in this guild if you only role play. There is no shame in this rank, and if you have no ambition, you should be perfectly proud to be here. If you are loyal to us for more than a year, however, you will be moved to sub council if you are still in this position, loyalty meaning that you post consistently during that time period. This also applies to any other rank you may achieve. You have board admin from here on out, unless you abuse it.
☪ incubus
Or a succubus, if you would prefer to be referred to as that, females. It is getting harder to move up ranks, and you will certainly not get here just for posting messages. You will need to have contributed something else, like time advertising, hosting a page, or making a graphic.
♒ mermaid
This being the rank before the sub council, you will have no less than 500 messages to even be considered for this rank. However, you must have done plenty other than role play if you want to graduate here.
✠ dark angel
This is it. Sub council. You are considered as an equal to councilf, except you didn't necessarily send in an application. You have to have exceeded 1000 posts, and done plenty of helpful things for the guild. You gain poll admin here.
Council
If you become a council member, you have layout admin, as well as poll and board. You must have either helped found or sent in an application. You must be at incubus rank or higher to apply for council, and if you apply at that rank and there are no more council spots open, you will be considered for sub council.

The Knoll

A century ago, our world was destroyedby monsters. Many called them demons. Today, we are rebuilt. Lethansatha, the River City, occupies an entire continent. It is a paradise, the only land in all the world that isn't a barren wasteland.
However, as the old adage goes, beauty can be deceiving. Beneath its glossy veneer, River City is rotten, crippled by magic-wielding zealots and a government intent on turning a blind eye to unsavory truths. This place was a haven for a long time, but the sunny days are coming to a swift and terrible end...

Flesh & Soul

The slaves started it. The world is infected. The only place that seemed to be safe for them? It was a lie. They are losing their minds, and those who already have are being stuck in the middle of a war of death and possession. The end of the world could be easily coming nearer given the circumstances, and there is no answers in site. After all, how do you rid yourself of those already dead?

Characters

Instructions

1. Character pages are to be hosted by you. So, before you get a-typing, you should probably find a good layout. At the moment, there is no character limit. I would like your character pages either be on separate pet's pages or on a page like this one with multiple pages inside of it. That's right, you need an Inception petpage. Anyway, you can find some premades here, or you could always make your own if you are confident with your css skills. This is simply so people don't have to scroll through legions of elves while looking for your vampire character.
2. There is no form you have to fill out about your character, but I do want description. You can't just have something like "He has brown hair," when that is clearly displayed in your picture. Speaking of pictures, you need not have one, but if you do, please make it neo-appropriate. I am very aware that for some of the creatures in this guild, that is a very difficult task, but I would rather have you with no picture than sussed(&cough) Pony... (&cough) But if you do decide not to display a picture, you should have a good physical description.
3. After you finish your character, send it to me to be displayed proudly with the other characters of that type. I will read over it, and tell you to add more detail if I think it is necessary. Once you complete a character, you may role play, even if I do not check it. I don't want you to have to wait on me to jump in.

Mermaids

Mermaids are unique in many ways when compared to the other species. Mermaids are also unique when compared to each other, that is, when you compare the northern mermaids to the southern mermaids. The only major difference is appearance. Where southern mermaids are simply female bodies seemingly fused with a fish fin, their northern cousins are more aquatic looking. Their skin is blue, and their gills are plainly visible. Their skin is also much thicker, and their hands have webbing between the fingers. They are hideous creatures, and their voices sound like that of a whale, not alluring at all. However, we will be focusing on their southern cousins, as the waters around our setting are far to warm for the northern type.
There are a few things to be known about mermaids if you are planning on role playing one. First and foremost, there is no such thing as a merman. These creatures are born of the sea, the southern type sprout from volcanoes, the unique combination of fire and water fusing together create a mermaid. They do have childhoods and grow up, though. When the volcano erupts, mermaids that live around it adopt the children born from the violent explosion. So, that is how a mermaid is created.
The southern mermaid, mentioned earlier, looks just like a female human on the top, only their faces look like that of angels. Their hair is usually extremely long, and it never tangles. Their tails are about their torso length and a half with a large caudal on the end. On the tail itself, there are two pelvic fins underneath and a dorsal fin running along the back. It is their fin that gives them speed in the water. Their skin can be any normal skin tone you can think of, and fin colors are limitless, except you can't have rainbow fins or designs. Silver with rainbow reflections is okay, but please keep it... not subtle, per say, but at least reasonable.

_-Interrupting Pony!-_
YOU MEAN I CAN'T HAVE A FIN OF A MILLION SHADES AND UNICORNS AND SPIRALS AND EXPLOSIONS AND DISCOS AND FAIRIES AND DRAGONS ON IT? D=

...

no, pony. x.x

Mermaid tails, when not submersed in water, turn into human legs. However, they are not used to gravity at first, nor are their legs strong enough to support them on land. So, if a mermaid wants to walk on land, they have to struggle a long time and build the muscle necessary to do so. The southern colony does have a special squad for this purpose, and they are trained since birth to walk on land and become envoys for their people.
Mermaids feed on humans in one of the most simplistic ways. They enjoy playing with their food before eating it, though, and many times request having the humans sent out in a boat to them so they can first lure the humans into thinking that mermaids are just innocent creatures and then striking, dragging them underwater to feed on them just like a shark would. When hungry, their faces turn paler and fangs grow in place of perfect, pearly teeth.
Mermaids have a few supernatural powers besides just being supernatural themselves. Their tears are said to have special properties, but since they hardly ever cry, no real tests have been preformed. They have the power to lure any man into a dreamy state with their fair voices and fairer faces, so they have little to no problem with the kill. Their skin is fireproof, as they were born in a volcano, so the magma rain has no effect on them. Last but not least, their kiss prevents mortals and other creatures from drowning, ever. However, the kiss has to be from the mermaid, not stolen from her, and they rarely ever see anyone fit, that is, before they tear them apart in their murky depths.
Mermaids live for a very long time, about two hundred years is average for them. Therefore, they also mature more slowly than other races. A mermaid can survive for about a month on a single feeding (a feeding being a portion of food about the size of a large turkey). They can survive for awhile on other creatures besides humans, but they will perish within a year if they do not eat what they were meant to.
A mermaid who, for some reason, wants to have a child is out of luck. They are not made for it. If they stay in their human form, the child will kill them as they are not built to carry a child. However, if they change into their true form, their internal condition turns unfavorable for the child, and the fiasco ends there.

Vampires

One of their limitations is commonly known as "The Threshold Rule." It is pretty simple when you get down to it. No vampire, under any circumstances, may enter the residence of a mortal or witch without being invited in. A residence counts as where that person lives. Where they sleep, and where they "go home" to. However, when they have been invited in, through any entrance to the home, they can come back as much as they like, and the unlucky soul who invited them in can do nothing about it. If they haven't been invited in, their foot won't even go through the door. A 'mortal' in this case is anything that isn't a vampire, a witch, an elf, a shapeshifter, ect.
Second, they cannot cross running water. The weaker the vampire is, however, the less this law comes into effect. Now, if it is a pond or lake, they will do just fine, but oceans, rivers, or even a gurgling stream will cause them much grief, unless they have means to go under it.
A vampire peacefully sharing blood with a human is one of the world's most pleasurable things for both parties involved-not that there is a lot of that in this world.
Okay, here it is; the big one: blood consumption. A well-fed vampire that feeds normally on humans is the most powerful. He has less of a chance of randomly attacking humans if he is well fed, and he his also stronger and faster. They heal quicker the more human blood runs through their veins. Something called their Power is stronger, and that is something I will explain later.
The next vampire is one who feeds on animals. They do not have golden eyes, they do not sparkle, and they are far weaker. When they feed on animals, it can be easier to push cravings to the bottom of their mind, although the smallest thing could bring it all rushing back, making them likely to randomly attack. They wound far more easily, and hardly have any Power at all. However, they are less susceptible to one drawback in particular, the running water rule. They can normally cross it without much worry.
Another substitute to blood exists, and it is Black Wine, a special brew made from a specially grown grape. It is available only to the eldest, richest, and most "in" vampires. It is sort of like an energy drink, it gives them a short high where they feel more powerful than any blood ever made them, however it wears off quickly, and cannot replace blood for long periods of time. Other forms of normal alcohol can subdue cravings, but in no way cure them. If a vampire keeps up a normal diet of blood of whatever type, they can eat human food, although it is slightly less appealing than it was when they were mortal.
If a vampire is starved of blood for a very long while (Usually month or more, depending on how active the vampire is and how much Power he or she is using) they mummify. They don't die like they would if they were staked or exposed to sunlight, their flesh simply encases them and they are incapable of speech or movement. The only thing that can bring them out of this mummified state is blood trickled down their dusty throats.
Now, to explain Power. Power is basically icing on the cake for being a vampire. If the vampire is well fed, Power works something like supernatural powers, only dimmed down a little. They can communicate through minds with other vampires. Whether the other one is well fed or not, they can throw their thoughts out and they stick in the other one's mind. They can control a mortal's (or weak vampire's) mind if they make direct and close up eye contact. They can make them think that they want to be harmed, they can make them steal something, they can make them send a message, forget something, or remember something completely backwards, inside out, and upside down. If the vampire is old and strong, it can use its power to shift into an animal for small periods of time, and animal such as a bird, a cat, or a snake, but once they pick an animal, for the most part, they have to stay with it. Some have been known to have one bird, like a crow, and one land animal, such as a wolf, but that is really as far as one can go. They can also effect someone's dreams.
Another thing about Power is the type of humanoid blood being consumed. The more powerful the creature is, the stronger the blood is to the vampire. A human is okay, witches are more powerful, and dark angel blood makes a vampire nearly unstoppable. However, it isn't often that a vampire feeds on what this society considers a peer.
Some things beside lack of blood can contribute to a vampire being weak. One of the biggest ones is Vervain. Vervain is an herb, not too exciting to look at, but very powerful. It can be put into a necklace, ingested through drinks or food, brewed as a tea, or used to tip the end of weapons. Vampires react violently to Vervain. It is sort of like nature's weapon against vampires. If Vervain is on a person, through a necklace, ring, or just a clump of it in a pocket, a vampire can not use compulsion on them. It simply will not work. If a human or other creature has taken in Vervain, their blood is toxic to a vampire. Just a little tap will immobilize a vampire for some time. If a vampire ingests too much, it will kill them like a poison. If a vampire is stabbed with a Vervain-tipped weapon or even if the skin comes in contact with the liquid substance used to tip the weapon, it will end badly. A wooden stake with Vervain is completely fatal. Being rubbed with the liquid form burns the skin like molten brands.
Factors such as garlic, crosses, or mirrors have no affect whatsoever on a vampire.
Sunlight is a huge factor in a vampire's life. No vampire can go out into broad sunlight and survive. They burn. Period. Well, not quite. There is a stone called lapis lazuli. If a vampire has a witch in their favor, that witch can mold a ring or amulet out of this stone and enchant it. A vampire wearing this ring or amulet can walk around quite comfortably in the day, as long as they don't take it off, that is. Do they have to sleep in coffins? No. As long as they are in complete darkness when they rest, they can sleep normally.
Now, for a quote:
Vampires can't procreate, though we love to try. -Damon Salvatore, The Vampire Diaries
Okay, now for the last big subject: Turning into a vampire. Vampires are not venomous. It takes much more than a bite to turn into one. First, the vampire feeds. This step isn't absolutely necessary, but it usually happens in most cases. Second, the human has to feed on vampire blood. If they have been fed on, this tastes like the most normal thing in the world, and even if they haven't, it is still pretty good stuff. After a human has the blood in their system, they have to die. A snap of the neck is usually the best bet, although anything without maiming is pretty good. After they awake, they are not fully a vampire. They can go out in the sun, although it hurts their eyes. To complete the process, they need to feed on a human. It is either that or perish in a slow, painful way. After they feed, it is complete. Brand new vampire, ready for action.
Only humans and witches can turn into vampires. That is all. You cannot have a dark angel vampire or a mermaidpire. It's not going happen, so don't ask, please.
A side note, on vampires feeding. When they smell or crave blood, the whites of their eyes redden. The pupils enlarge and the irises are nearly unseen. Their face looks like it is cracking and a popping sound can be heard. This fades if they get what they want, although when they pull away, their face is still that of a demon, complete with long fangs on the top and bottom, the longest being the two dominant canines.
When a vampire dies, their veins enlarge and their skin cracks, leaving their corpse brittle. This happens no matter how they die, stake to the heart, fire, sunlight, whatever. However, if it is in the sunlight, a newer vampire will remain a brittle, cracked corpse. An older one will simply shift to ashes and blow away.

Incubi and Succubi

Incubi and succubi are practically the same creatures, except different genders. An Incubus is a male demon, while a Succubus is a female demon. They both prey on the same thing, only different genders, the Incubus preying on female humans and the succubus preying on the males.
These creatures have beautiful features, and can look completely normal if they wish. However, each also has the ability to sprout leathery wings of a dark, muted tone if they so have the inkling to do so.
Unlike vampires who can sustain themselves on a human for the human's lifetime, these creatures almost always finish off their victims, mostly because of the way that they feed, and what they feed on. A succubus or incubus is much like a mermaid in the way that they lure their prey in with a pretty face. However, instead of eating the actual thing, they feed on the emotion of the human. They are able to do this by a kiss, or... more. The human is drained completely nearly every time, and normally doesn't survive more than two feedings.
A succubus or incubus lifespan is just about immortal. There is no way for a pure one of these to be born, so the number of these creatures is less than that of the other species. However, an incubus can have a child with a human, however the mother usually dies in childbirth. The newly born child turns into a demon like their parent at about fourteen years of age, which means they must start preying on humans to stay alive. A hybrid child cannot reproduce, no matter who their parent was or what their gender is. A normal lifespan of a hybrid child hovers around 900 years, and purebloods live for as long as they survive. Both look like they haven't aged past 25 until the day they perish.

Shapeshifters

There are two kinds of shapeshifters that you can choose from. The first is your typical turns-into-an-animal shapeshifter. The second is a human shapeshifter, who can shift to look like anyone they want to.
The animal shapeshifters can shift only into one animal from birth. This has to be a normal animal, no unicorns, pegusi, dragons, or anything of that sort. They are able to change at will around the age of sixteen. Before then, their shifts are random, and their age is reflected in the age of the animal they portray. They do not need to survive on humans, although the ones that shift into animals that could eat a human (panther, bear, wolf) are able to eat them, and it helps making shifting a slightly easier, but not by much. Shifting into an animal is very painful at first, but it gets faster and painless as they keep shifting. They cannot shift into aquatic creatures, as they wouldn't have survived their first few shifts. When in their animal form, they cannot speak human languages. If two shapeshifters have a child, that child is going to be a shapeshifter, but their animal isn't always similar to their parents'. If a shapeshifter and a human have a child, the child has a 50/50 shot at being a shapeshifter. If a human shapeshifiter and an animal shapeshifter have a child, the child has a 50% chance of being either type.
Human shapeshifters are different from animals in the fact that they can shift into multiple forms. While animals are stuck with one transition forever, these shifters are able to match everything about someone else, and shift into as many people as they like. When they shift, their voice also matches the person they have shifted into. They are also able to shift into a completely new person, one not based on anyone else. They also have the ability to shift certain parts of themselves like their nose, eyes, or hair.
All shapeshifters have the normal lifespan of a human, although if an animal shapeshifter shifts into something like an elephant and they live as an elephant (who has a longer lifespan) for most of thier life, they can survive longer, however, if they change back, they will almost certainly die if they are 150 years old.
Human shapeshifters can shift into people older or younger than themselves, but it does not change their actual age. A 60 year old shapeshifter can shift back into their 20 year old self, but they still have 60 years of life to their name.
However, a weak human shapeshifter can shift into someone stronger and have that, however, they cannot gain supernatural speed, strength, or power by shifting into another supernatural being.

---

Doppelgangers are mutatations of and are similar to human shapeshifters. They can both shape shift into any person, and adopt their voice as well. The similarities are the fact that they can change into other supernatural creatures, but will not adopt the habits or powers of them.
But there are certain differences between these creatures and their tamer, shapeshifting cousins. In order for the doppelganger to change into someone else, they must have had contact with the person's blood. This makes it harder to shift into supernatural creatures, as it is harder for them to obtain the blood. Also, obtaining their blood grants the doppelganger access to the personality and memories of the person they are changing into.
Doppelgangers are much more twisted and evil than their shapeshifter relatives, in fact, the people they shift into, they will tend to kill. Not in order to survive, as doppelgangers do not feed on humans to survive, but in a sense to complete their own bloodlust. Female doppelgangers will only be able to shift into another female and male doppelgangers will only be able to shift into another male.
Also, unlike human shapeshifters, doppelgangers have limitations on the ages they are able to shift into. It can not vary more than ten years either way. So a twenty year old doppelganger will be able to shift into someone as old as thirty and as young as ten.
Much like human shape shifters, they have human life spans, but only in their original form, the form they were born in. They can become immortal in a way, as the shape in which they take will become their actual age, and they will age accordingly. But if they revert back to their original form and don't shift at all, they will have normal human life spans. Also, when they shift the age of their original forms are put on hold. So when they shift back to their original form, it will be the same age as when they'd left it, as technically they had been a different person.
Doppelgangers are able to reproduce, but as it is a mutation of the human shape shifter gene, it is very unlikely that the child of a doppelganger will be a doppelganger as well, and so doppelgangers are much rarer than normal human shape shifters. The only way to garuntee a doppelganger baby is if two doppelgangers, who have at least one doppelganger parent reproduce.

Kitsune

Kitsune are fox spirits, originally of Japanese origin. They can be three forms. The first is a human form, rather plain looking. The second is still humanoid, but with fox ears and a tail. The final is their animal form, a fox the size of a large dog.
Kitsune are powerful magicians whose power grows with age. When they are 100 years of age, they get the ability to shift from their original animal form to human form. Holding this form is rather draining, but letting ears or a tail sprout relieves most of the pressure of holding a humanoid form. Kitsune start with one tail, and as they get older and ultimately more powerful, more tails grow around that one. A kitsune can grow up to nine tails. If someone wanted to harm a kitsune or dim its power, they would have to cut off tails. If they cut off the original one, the kitsune would perish. A kitsune's power is also held within something called a star ball. It is normally a gem or crystal that the kitsune keeps very close to them. If someone stole the kitsune's star ball, they would have access to the creature's memories and a certain power over the kitsune, for if the ball is smashed, the kitsune loses all of its power.
Kitsune have a certain power over humans that other creatures don't. For one thing, they may possess a human if they wish, and control them from outside of the body. A kitsune feeds on a human in ways very similar to that of an incubus or succubus, but they do not need humans to survive.
A kitsune is a fox spirit, this does not mean that they are dead, it simply means they have powers a normal fox would not. As stated before, the older and wiser this creature gets, the more power it has. They can do many things a witch can, they can cast spells, brew potions if they wish, they can transport themselves, and transform themselves.
A kitsune can be any color, any natural color. They can be black, beige, brown, red, white, or silver. When a kitsune has nine tails, it can also have a golden color. They have only one human form, and cannot shift into anything but the three forms afore mentioned, fox, human, or a combination of both.
Kitsune are basically immortal, unless they are killed. They can live as many years as they can survive. They can have a child with a human, though this child never possesses any power at all. If two kitsune have a child, that child is always a kitsune. Rain falling from a clear sky — a sunshower — is called kitsune no yomeiri or the kitsune's wedding, and this also happens when a kitsune child is born.

history

Nekos around here aren't cute girls with cat ears and tails, they're bloodthirsty, cannibalistic monsters. Their land, Sin, has always been a poor nation settled by the mountains, the majority of their population being miners or thieves. The rich are all part of the aristocracy that rules the country, obviously not caring about the conditions of their people in the least. They don't see how much nekos are distrusted and hated in the other lands- they just see that they rule their country. Their poor, horrible, run-down country.

It wasn't always like this. You see, there was once a Dutchess of Sin, no so very long ago. She, whoever she may have been, always kept the country in line while the Duke would take care of military matters. Under the Dutchesses' rule, Sin prospered into a lovely country and people actually liked their cat people. The last Dutchess- Dutchess Aada III -was overthrown fifty years ago during the Revolution, which was all about who would rule Sin. Obviously, the aristocrats won and took over.

Since then, Sin has fallen into disrepair and poverty. The aristocrats take what they want from the people and other countries, obviously having more money than they'd ever need while the rest of the nekos struggle to survive on the trades they've been taught. They'd never really needed humans to eat, seeing as they had plenty of mountain goats and other animals to hunt, but since the Revolution, the aristocrats are the only ones allowed to have the game. The rest of the country had to resort to other means- cannibalism.

Nekos, even the aristocrats, happen to dine upon their own kind. The aristocrats don't often follow this practice, seeing as they find the others of their race disgusting, but during festivals, the aristocrats have games amongst themselves and they eat the losers of their swordplay challenges. The other nekos have to eat the elderly, beggars, thieves, or other criminals. The poor generally get the more dangerous criminals, like murderers, while the middle class get the petty criminals. Since there is no moving from class to class, you're stuck eating what your class eats unless you find a way to smuggle yourself out of Sin.
And you thought you could just walk out of the country?

As if the aristocrats would let any of their subjects get out of the country to make their lives better. Pssh, how crazy are you? Nono, you have to get out on a wagon train or be with a band of desperate people to get past the guards at the borders. Even then, you may still be killed, but many attempt it. Their country really fails.

nekos

Nekos are cat people, but they're not those people with ears and a tail. Yeah, some of them are lucky enough to look that normal, but all a neko really is is a humanoid crossed with a cat. They turn out all different ways, but there are always a few outstanding characteristics of a neko...
  • They can jump twice their height.
  • They all have powers of some kind, and this power determines their lifespan.
  • They all have extraordinary eyesight and hearing, unless they're blind or deaf.
  • They can communicate with any feline, whether it be a mountain lion or a domestic cat.
While these are what makes a neko a neko, like I said, they come in many shapes and sizes. Your typical neko is about five and a half feet tall; has claws for fingernails; sharp, long teeth; cat ears; a tail and cat eyes. Some are covered in fur, others look completely human or just have strange eyes... and others are, well, cats. Panther-sized cats that can speak no human tongue yet have all the intelligence of a humanoid. Some nekos keep these other, stranger nekos as companions, as nekos can communicate with one another no matter how strange they are or how deformed they find themselves.

known for

Nekos are known for being assassins, thieves, savages, and having a rather strange culture. They're also known as being polite and for their artistic talents with their weapons and architecture. They happen to have rather... different ways of crafting their weapons and building their dwellings.

No neko would be caught dead without a weapon, well, if they grew up in Sin they wouldn't be. Nekos have odd ways of crafting their weapons. So odd, in fact, THAT I COULDN'T FIND ANY PICTURES. D:
That's okay, though. Nekos who are swordsmen and swordswomen seem to prefer either two swords or a single sword; the more barbaric nekos like to fight with huge swords as big as they are. You know, those totally unreal anime/manga swords? Yup. Although they're not crafted like that. The main kind of neko sword is known as a erskine, which is a sword of about three feet in length and forged from a metal called a'lise that they mine from the mountains whose color and sheen is similar to brass, but this metal is rather similar to steel, but harder to craft and more durable. Some neko powers are inherited, and one of such is the power to craft metal into any shape you desire with just a thought of the end work. You still have to work the metal, you just always end up having the sword looking exactly, or almost exactly, the way you wanted it. Only nekos with this power are allowed to craft a sword.

The swords themselves come in four different categories: erskine, lordm, behskel-er, and or'iss. Erkine [literally meaning 'one'] swords are just a single sword, used for fighting with one sword. As before, they are about three feet long and have a rustic sheen from the a'lise from which it is forged. The blades are often about three fingers wide, becoming about a hand wide towards the tops, where the huge hooks are on the blades. Generally, an Erkine blade will have three hooks along its top and a serrated edge on its back. Most are single-sided blades, but some are double-sided, with the hooks in the center of the blades. [one day i will get 3d tech to show you]

Lordm [meaning 'double' or 'twin'] swords are, well, twin swords... or triplet swords, depending on how daring the neko wielding them is...

Elves

Elves are usually tall and willowy, their sharp ears and defined facial features two distinguishing factors separating them from other species. Elves do not feed on humans at all, and are one of the few species on the planet that don't need to.
Elves are normally very synced with nature, and have natural powers such as being able to speak to animals. They can also weave magic of other sorts, but more towards healing magic and not much else.
An elf's life span is not immortal, although it is very close. They can live for almost 2,000 years if they take care of themselves. Their children take about 50 years to grow up fully, and they only start losing their youth at about 1,050.
Elves' minds are typically sharper than those of other creatures. They can retain information and detail, which typically makes them wonderful woodsmen or scholars. They have very good stamina, and are often quite as strong as a vampire physically, though not quite as fast. They have very good reflexes, and that makes them fast learners for combat. Their senses are also very sharp and sensitive.
All elves have animal magnetism to some extent. They can all train animals very fast, even animals that otherwise would never be trained. An elf can have a child with a variety of other creatures, if that creature is able to have a child at all. Often the child of a hybrid elf will take after the other side and just have a few things to show they are an elf, such as pointed ears, a knack for animals, or sharper senses.
Elves are probably the simplest of the creatures here, and the least harmful. They are often very wise, however, and are to be respected.

Dark Angels

Dark angels are one of the more dominant species here. They are extremely old and powerful and they are definitely reaping what the baddies sowed with humans, considering they were humans a long, long time ago and they get the most humans since everyone else pretty much have no choice but to hand them over or get completely smashed by the mighty... might of the evil dark angels. Although that's not exactly fair, since there aren't all that many dark angels. They live in the mountainous country of Etheria, which borders Sin and is absolutely minuscule and tiny compared to the other species' native lands. The reason for there being so few dark angels is unknown to anyone other than them, but the old wives' tales are that only the most evil of all humans may become dark angels, since the Afterlife completely rejected them. It's possible there's an ounce of truth to that, but even they don't know that.
Dark angels look like regular humans, only bigger. Like, they're taller than usual and are generally more buff, either that or they're itty-bitty-puny and are only about five feet tall, it depends on how your lifestyle was before. Their eyes are kind of like a human's eyes, only the whites are black and the pupils are white, the dominate iris color being some darker shade of purple. The big angels are usually bald and are just... yeah, huge and scary. The tiny ones usually have waist-length hair, regardless of gender. No matter what, though, they all have tattoos. Lots and lots of tattoos, or... "markings," as we'll call them. They're all done in navy and are generally abstract tribal designs serving no meaning other than just identifying them as an individual of the Noxleto, which is what the dark angels call themselves. Dark angels also decide when they have wings or not. They have wing markings on their back that disappear when their wings are in use. Generally, their wings are that of a raven or black swan, but the wings could be anything, like shadows, draconic, or just... air, for they change at the angel's will.
Dark angels also have power over magic, specifically of the dark kind ( what a surprise! ). Going back to the two main kinds of angels, the huge, buff guys usually don't care very much for magic, so they only learn a couple healing spells and go about smashing skulls with war axes, now, the small ones, who generally can't even pick up a war axe, by far smash a skull with one, need a little bit of help. Their magic usually consists of blood rituals, or, at the very least, a sacrifice to pull off something big. There are a couple types of these magic-users as well. We have the necromancers and the... everything else. Necromancers raise the dead and harass everyone with zombies that probably eat them for, oh, I dunno, breakfast. Necromancy is one of the harder arts to get into, so not very many angels have the patience or dedication to stick with it. Now, everything else is like your blood rituals, sacrifices, healing spells, curses... you know. They really do all that, so I'm not going to jabber about magic, because you can learn all that from Harry Potter.
As for what they use humans for, well, eh, they're pretty much for whatever. Dark angels could sort of be described as cannibals, considering they consume the flesh and blood of humans and they were once humans a long time ago, but... they're already cool and that makes nekos less cool, so they're not cannibals. Along with that, they feed off humans' fear and misery and despair and... heck, pretty much any negative emotion they can pump out of them, so they like to keep them as slaves before they end up on a silver platter. They also keep them as slaves for their life force, their well-being, their... willpower. You know, all that stuff. They eat all that up too. Once that's low, they eat the emotions, and then they eat the humans. Yummy! So, in theory, a dark angel could consume the emotions of a human for breakfast, their blood for lunch, and nibble on what's left for dinner. Yummy!

Witches

First of all, witches are not green. They are not warty. (Although, I suppose if you wanted your character to be warty, I wouldn't hold it against you too much.) They look like normal humans. Of course, what "normal" is is up to you, but you get the point. Witches in this society are sort of at the bottom of what was meant to be an equal dominance system, since the only thing holding them up from humans is their power.
For the most part, a witches' power is anything but limitless. They are only one person, and so many things change their power. Some things make their power stronger, and some dim it down. One thing that can dim it is overuse. If a witch does a large, expansive, complicated spell, they most likely will not be able to lift a feather from a table. Another is fear. If a witch is deadly afraid of someone, someplace, or something, their power gets blocked. Their mind is too cluttered with their fear to weave magic, and they are at somewhat of an impasse; however, if they face their fear, go to the place, go face to face with the person, or destroy the object or thing, then the block is over. This doesn't mean if they see a spider, they can't zap it because they are afraid, this means monumental fear. Fear enough to keep them inside, or enough to sneak around like a shadow. That bone-chilling fear is what stops their power, not a little fright.
Some other things that weaken them are elements, extreme elements such as blizzards, exhaustion, or using their magic against their will. However, they are lucky in that many more things give them power rather than take it away.
One of the most important factors in a witch is emotion. If a witch is angry, her power is magnified, although it is often harder to control. If she is determined or in love, she will also be able to use more magic without destroying herself. Worry can also make them strong, especially if they are worried about someone that they care about. One of the last factors is celestial events. Eclipses, comets, aligned stars, equinoxes and solstices all count toward making a witch stronger. However, this is only if they know how to channel the strength of this event into their spells and hexes.
Quote time again. Many things can fuel a witch's power...worry, anger. After Stefan [Salvatore] told me that they had taken you,[Bonnie] I had a lot of both. A simple locator spell was easy after that.-Sheila, The Vampire Diaries
The lives of witches and vampires have been entwined closely for a very long time. There have been many disputes and a lot of tension between both groups, but both of them have so much to give. Vampires, like I said, burn in the sun unless they have a ring or amulet or bracelet or something made of lapis lazuli. This doesn't mean they can go find a hunk of the rock, attach it to a string and call it a day, however. The charm has to be enchanted, and who better to enchant than a witch? This means that if a vampire befriends a witch who can make one of these, they have a large chance for a ring or necklace or whatever.
Vampires can also lend their Power to a witch. Say, if a little boy suspected too much about the "mean old witch on the hill" the vampire would simply need a few moments alone with the little squirt and all would be sorted. These races can offer each other protection, however they can very quickly grow to dislike even the thought of crossing paths with one another.
A witch's body functions much like a human's. A witch cannot be made, but born. In childhood, they have little to no power, except vivid deja vu every once in awhile, and perhaps being able to sense feelings on occasion. As they grow older, they can do little things, like making leaves rustle, training animals in less than an hour, or predicting the winner of the neighborhood soccer game. However, with training, they can do more things around the time they are young teens, like starting fires, telling important futures, charming objects, and forcing their will upon animals. However, the most powerful witches have something of an awakening. It can be a tragedy, a breakthrough, a self-realization, or a really passionate moment. Whatever the case, without this awakening, they are stuck doing little things, even in an event that would normally escalate their power.
Witches are allowed one familiar. This animal lives for as long as the witch does unless a sudden death is brought upon it. This does not mean if the familiar dies, so does the witch, but if the witch dies, so does the animal. This animal can vary from a mouse to a lion, just depending on what profile the witch needs to keep. The animal has powers much like its master, only subtler. They can talk to their master through the mind and spirit, and can sometimes lend their power and life energy to help a witch. However, if the witch takes it too far and kills the animal over a complicated spell, they will never know another familiar. In fact, any witch whose familiar dies is left without an animal companion of that sort for the rest of their being.
Witches are not immortal, although they can last quite a bit longer than humans, 130 is about the maximum for a witch. They can be male or female, although males prefer warlock or wizard.

Current Conditions

Season: Winter
Time: The only way to tell time in the winter is the position of the stars. As nothing else changes, this section will never change.
Weather: Cool, clear. You can see all of the stars, and the moon is a red-colored crescent, and the chance for meteors is 60%.
Some things to remember: Vampires may wander around freely with or without rings. The weather never changes, besides temperature and perhaps a few fluffy clouds. Most of the time it will either be cool or cold, just depending on the day. The moon makes frequent disappearances and pops back into the sky just as quickly. Before referencing it, please check here. That's all! Have fun, everyone, and we'll change the season only by popular request or if it gets dull. Happy feeding, marauding, and writing!

Decide where your story goes

We thought that we were better than them. We thought we could survive forever, so many of us have the ability to. But we didn't consider the most important part, we didn't know. We were blind, and now we will pay the price. For years, we have lived in peace, vampires and kitsune side by side, witches working alongside dark angels. Sure, some of us were a little prejudiced against others, but most of it died down. There was no dominant species. We shared our world with each other, and all were content. But now we know, now we know.
Our reckless nature will be our undoing. For years we consumed humans like they were candy, never conserving, just feeding. We kept them in awful conditions, forgetting what weak creatures they truly are. By the time we realized we were running out, it was too late. They can't breed, they are too weak. Many are just dying from diseases that course through their cramped cells and prisons. They weren't meant to live underground, not meant to be kept like the livestock they are. Plain and simple, humans are running out. We have enough of them to last us about three years, but that's not enough.
Some say to try and poison the ocean, to kill the mermaids. Others rally for a fight against the northern continent. Still some others say we turn on those who are close enough to human to sustain us, to turn on the witches and the elves. But most of us are just waiting. New laws keep being passed, and we watch and listen and wait for the storm to break. The clouds are getting thicker, and the rabbits are running scared. Life as we know it is going to change.

The Laws

Attention, citizens of the southern continent. The high council has set new laws and regulations on human consumption and other issues. Any person not following these laws will be imprisoned and restricted from humans for as long as possible. They are as follows.

No person is to take more than they need. Mermaids are to be given one hundred humans at the beginning of each month, half of what was given before. Vampires are restricted to one donor. If this donor dies, an autopsy will be preformed. If it was due to something other than blood loss, you shall be permitted another. If it was due to blood loss, you will be deprived of a human for a year. Incubi and Succubi, due to their nature are allowed one human a week. Shapeshifters, kitsune, elves, and witches are not allowed any humans at all. Dark angels are to have one donor, liable for replacement every year.

No creature is allowed to feed on a witch or elf without their consent, for that matter, no creature is to feed on any other without that person allowing it, the exception being humans.

The oceans are to be preserved. Mermaids are still allies for as long as one sits on the council. Numbers of landwalkers will be increased until further notice.

Keep checking this notice for new regulations. Be safe, be sensible, be secure.

The High Council of the Southern Continent

Welcome to our World

Physical

This role play takes place on a separate planet from our own earth. It is located in The Nyx Galaxy, and is seventh from its white sun. The planet's name is Xidirus. Its geography is rather simple, two large continents, each just slightly bigger than Australia, set far apart with a raging sea between. The planet is much, much smaller than earth as well, approximately half the size. The year is longer than earth's, about four times longer, each season approximately 372 days long, and there are still four. Our role play takes place on only one of the continents, the southern continent, in a coast city. The city will be described later. Under the sea is the mermaid's reign, the dark depths their perfect place. There are two colonies of mermaids, one living around each continent. The northern colony lives beneath ice floes, and their southern cousins live in and around an underground volcano.

The Weather

This aspect may be one of the hardest to keep up with, but don't worry, we'll keep the seasons and weather posted so there is no confusion. Don't worry to much about it, as we have resolved any issues with this dysfunctional weather that there might be. There are four seasons, but more than the weather changes during this time.
Winter
Winter is by far the most mellow of seasons. The sky is always dark, only stars to keep the velvety heavens company, only on some nights does the moon show itself. There is no snow or rain or hail, but a more celestial form of precipitation. Meteor showers are a normal occurrence, but they do no one any harm unless one unexpectedly falls to the ground.
Spring
The sky lightens into a pastel lavender color, more on the side of blue, but certainly a lavender. There is never any cloud cover, but indeed something stranger. Giant jellyfish the size of zeppelins and up drift across the sky, all varying shades of pink and white. They are harmless until it 'storms', at which time the jellyfish let loose a deadly rain of electric and poison which burns through skin like acid when it makes contact. At night, the sky turns black, but the jellyfish glow, giving a false moonshine to the planet. They leave as summer takes over.
Summer
The summer is the most violent of seasons. The atmosphere shifts to a cloud cover of red gas, and it looks very much like the planet of Jupiter. The air pressure increases to the point of torture, and when it rains, it pours magma from the heavens. This is certainly not the season to be outside without proper protection.
Fall
In the fall, the sky turns an electric shade of blue, striking until one adjusts to it. The weather hardly strays from docile, but when it does, something called darkening happens. It is very similar to lightning, and it is electrical currents loosed from the storm, but instead of illuminating the sky, it does rather the opposite and sucks all of the light into it. There are myths that if the conditions are correct, it unleashes an awful monster from another dimension, but no official sightings have been recorded.

History

The world used to be dominated by humans. There were so many of them, and they were able to keep the other species in submission. They captured vampires and exposed them to sun after years of imprisonment. They burned witches, their own kind with minor differences. They murdered countless kitsune, slaughtered nekos to the brink of extinction, and hunted shapeshifters like animals. They forced elves to work for them and they imprisoned all incubi and succubi. The mermaids they trapped in fishing nets and lugged them home for pets in large fish tanks, nothing more than amusing toys. They treated the earth worse than they treated the supernatural, but as they pillaged their earth, the earth began to fight back. The weather flopped to the way it is now, and at last the supernatural had the advantage. The vampires and incubi were the first to break free of their bonds, and they freed their others, making countless allies. Angry mermaids dragged ships to their dooms, and humans were captured instead of killed. They were put in extensive underground store rooms, rounded up until there was not one left above ground. The supernatural rebuilt their world, making peace with each other. There was no dominant species any more, and for a good while, everyone was at peace.

Society

This world has no dominant species, and all keep peace with one another, and live in harmony. A council of creatures was formed, so each could represent their species. They agreed on how humans should be distributed, but no real laws were set in place. It was agreed that the mermaids would be supplied with a fair amount of humans, enough to keep them sustained. Mermaids also train some of their own and call them landwalkers, whose legs are strong enough to walk on land. The society has two branches, those that are well to do and those that must work. There is no impoverished class, and everyone gets the humans they need. No one is limited in what they can achieve, and no one but the humans are ever miserable. At least, that's the way it worked...

Coping

With such wacky weather patterns, even the supernatural need coping methods. Here are some. The homes are made of supertempered metal, making them invincible to the conditions that the earth throws at them. The rich and important have special cloaks, carriages, and evolved horses so they can travel in the worst of conditions. The poorer stay indoors during bad weather. The humans are kept underground, to protect them and to imprison them.

Our Place

The role play will take place on the southern island in a large port city that doubles as the capital of the southern continent. The population is 300,000 creatures, and the humans are not counted. The city has the responsibility of supplying the southern mermaids with humans. The city is much like New York today, shops, theaters, parks, residential areas. Those who inhabit it wear much the same sort of clothing we do. In fact, one of the only differences is the species themselves. Two others are transportation and conservation. Since the world is trying to destroy itself, the supernatural took a hint and converted everything to 'green' energy. Also, when they don't walk, they use horses, or horse-like creatures. Most are specially bred to be weather proof, and one may find a pegusi or unicorn in the same stable as just another horse. But, for the most part, the things available to them are the same that are available to us, as far as every day living subjects. The city is named Myrka (murk-uh). It has skyscrapers, parks, apartments, and, of course, docks and beaches. There are forest areas surrounding it, and past miles forests, suburbs. Out past the suburbs are mountains, and beyond that are other cities, towns, villages, and forts.
