Christy's Awesome Snow Wars 2 Guide

The Basics

Snow Wars 2 isn't actually all that difficult of a game. If you already understand the basics of the game I'd skip this portion and go straight to the strategy one, which helps you stay alive long enough to get to the avatar. Obtaining the avatar (shown above) means that you must successfully send a score of 10000 points+ on the Snow Wars 2 game.

First off, there are three sections to each level I'd like to clarify (they always go in the same order):
Repair/Build Phase: This is the stage where you can repair and build your fortress. For the initial build round you get 30 seconds, then for the 'repair' ones you get 15 seconds. This is the portion where if you have failed to protect the snowmen, you lose the game.
Catapult Placing Phase: Kind of obvious, when you have 15 seconds to place catapults.
Battle Phase: Where you and your enemies duke it out for 15 seconds.

Starting out...
Here is what a regular snow wars 2 game looks like when you start the game (screenie 1):

  1. Frozen River: This separates your side from the enemy side. You cannot build on it at all. Note that it's not just one line where you can't build, the river itself is staggered so look at where you can build and where it cuts off.
  2. Your side: This is where you can build, surround the snowmen with snowblocks to protect them and make sure you leave enough room for cannons and such.
  3. Snowmen: These little guys are the whole point of the game. Protect 'em or die. In Snow Wars 2 there are no extra lives, you get one chance. Refer to the Strategy portion of this guide to see the best placement of snowmen to play.
  4. Enemy Side: This is where the enemies will come from. The cannons won't move from their side but the lupes sure will.

  1. Enemy Catapults: These will throw snowballs to knock down parts of your snow fortress. Go after these first because they do the most direct damage.
  2. Lupes: These enemies are relatively harmless as long as your fortress remains intact, they can't melt the snowblocks but if one gets close to a snowman it will melt it. Go for these after you've eliminated all the catapults for that level. It's easier to get the lupes if you aim slightly in front of them. Also the lupes right against your fortress are the easyist to snuff out.
  3. Catapults: These grundos are the ones that kill the catapults and lupes. When building a snow fortress make sure to leave enough room for them. The Blue Area is where you can build them so make sure that blue area can accomodate building catapults as well as the snowmen.
  4. Gaps: This is the damage the enemy catapults inflict. After this Battle Round ends, your first objective is to repair the gaps in your original fortress. Then build more to encompass other snowmen if you have more time later.
Building Your Fortress

These are the blocks you use to build your fortress/repair it. The first four are used in the earlier levels but as you get to higher levels the + one and the one next to it will be used.

To rotate the blocks press space bar. If you are unfamiliar with the game start off easy by only surrounding one snowman with enough room for a few catapults in the first round. As you get better and more confident, expand how many snowmen you can surround in the first round. Your aim should be to eventually get three boxed in on the first round.

Strategy

So... you feel you have mastered the basics, but need a good strategy to get farther? Read on.

Step 1
Get a good scattering of snowmen like so: Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Here is a really good one that I already started playing but gives you the idea:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
A good scattering means that you have AT LEAST 3 units of snow blocks that you can build between each snowman and a 'wall'. The frozen river I'm also calling a wall because you can't build over it.

Here is an example of a BAD scattering of snowmen: Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Notice how with 2 of the snowmen there are only 1-2 units between the river and the snowmen? That makes it extremely hard to rebuild if an enemy catapult hurts your defenses there because you'd need a very specific piece to build it up again.

Step 2

Here is a good way to start your fortress, once you get a good scattering of the snowmen. Make a big snow fortress surrounding at least 2, maybe 3 of the snowmen that are toward the front of the screen. It should look a little like this screenie.

Then when you can build catapults, build them toward the back of the fortress, and only do a couple. You can add more as time goes by.

Step 3

This is how you should build out in the successive construction periods so you'll eventually have all 5 snowmen protected. The different colors mean you should work on these on two /different/ turns because if you try another big block there you'll likely run out of time and they will 'melt' as you put in catapults and battle your enemies.

Step 4

Here is what a good fortress should look like. Notice how there is the large fortress that surrounds all 5 snowmen then in the front it is broken up in two mini ones almost? That is key because frequently as the game progresses the snow blocks get harder to place in small places, with this strategy if your outer wall needs some major work that you may not have enough time for, protect the 3 snowmen toward the back by repairing the inner wall first and perhaps sacrificing one of the snowmen toward the front. (also note on the screenie it says "sacrificiable catapults" the catapults is supposed to be "snowmen" but to be perfectly honest it's a big pain to rechange that little thing then reupload)

The cannons are also important, make sure that they are behind the inner wall so if one of your outer snowmen dies, you still have use of all catapults. Leave some room between outer snowmen and catapults as well so you can build the inner wall and there is extra room for repairs to the inner wall.

Note: Don't quit if you do lose a snowman, especially towards the later stages of the game, the avatar can still be gotten with only 4 snowmen. I, myself, usually lose one toward 6-7k where the game gets slower. (Also, the blue blob part of the screenie doesn't mean anything, the cannon on the mouse was hovering there when I took the screenie and looked misleading)

Step 5

This is what will happen later on in the game, you may not have enough time to protect all of your snowmen so just go for the inner fortress part with your catapults. By later I mean around 6-7k, if this happens as early as it does in the screenie I'd start over. This situation also isn't entirely bad. If one of your outer snowmen does get melted, then wait for a bunch of lupes to get in that area then reclaim it by making it part of your fortress again and they will disappear. Very handy because it can potentially get rid of like 10 lupes, and especially as you get on it's harder and harder to go after the lupes because the game gets slower and slower.

Even with a lot of practice too, I usually did lose the upper right corner snowman. The strategy of luring lupes then building a fortress around them works well if this happens. Also if this happens don't quit, it won't affect your score too much.

Tips

  • DON'T GIVE UP. This game is extremely glitchy and annoyed me to no end especially when it would just freeze up when I had 9800 points.
  • As soon as you reach the avatar score quit. Since occasionally the game will freeze if it does that you won't be able to send your score. Higher scores can be reached after you have the avatar
  • Before clicking 'Continue' after each Battle Phase, look ate gaps in your fortress around the continue sign. Now you have a head start and know if you need a special/small piece to successfully repair. Saves a good amount of time. Here is an example: Image hosted by Photobucket.com
  • Chatting or doing something else can relieve stress. Sometimes getting all tensed up will cause you to miss enemies. On the other hand don't leave it so long that you forget what your fortress looks like.
  • Cannons: The number of cannons you can put in kind of depends on your computer. I would not recommend more than around 18 just because you want to leave room to build/repair. The more cannons you put in also correlates to how slow the game can get. So if you have a slower computer you may want to stick with only aroun 12-13 cannons, but a faster one maybe around 17-18. Experiment and find the optimum cannons vs. slowness.

Note: For those of you who are a lil slow, when you reach your number of cannons the Catapult Placing Phase is basically useless. Just sit there and let it count down. (However lupes will still move around in this phase)

  • This may or may not still happen. I used to get it when I was playing for the avatar but recently I'm not. It is that around 6 or 7k you get a message saying this program is running slowly and whether to close it or not after every round. My only tip is that it doesn't really do anything so don't close your window if you get it. Also make sure not to accidently click 'Close Window'.
  • I recommend playing in the normal settings (default)

Glitches

  1. Game Slows Down: This is pretty self explanatory. In the later levels (around 5-6k and up) the game will get slower and slower. It will take longer for the grundos to catpult snowballs and have it reach the enemies. However, the countdown still goes at the same rate, even when the game itself is slow (This probably differs depending on the computer and browser)
  2. Can't get to the next round: You can tell you got this if your continue sign looks messed up and you cannot click it. And basically, this glitch is a death sentence, you will not be able to go ahead or even send your score. The only thing to do is close the window and restart. This is why I recommend quitting as soon as you reach the avatar score.
  3. Lupe Glitch: This happens when a lupe is in a place where you want to place a snow block. If a lupe was in that spot, it won't let you place that snow block where the lupe was, even if it has moved. The only way to put a new snow block there is to put the old one somewhere else and *hope* you find another to fit in that particular space.
