About Us
United Nerds is a chat-based guild for anyone with a nerdy fandom/interest. Interests can include comics, games, movies, tv shows, books or even something else that doesn't fit into those categories. The guild was founded on December 10th, 2012 in hopes of creating a close and friendly community of like minded people. Our vision for the future of this guild is to have active and chatty members online at most hours of the day so whenever you want to get online to relax, there will be someone to talk to. This dream cannot be achieved without active users willing to take a chance on a new guild and become active members. We want to strive for quality members and we will never be focused on quantity. While we want active members, we understand that people do have lives and will not be able to be online all the time and that is okay!
In the end, this guild is all about having fun and chatting in a relaxed environment.
Guidelines
Enough of the guilds with complex requirements and hoops for new members to jump through. United Nerds is welcoming to anyone who wishes to join. However, we ask that everyone follows the rules once in the guild.- Be semi-literate to literate. This means that the occasional bit of chat speak and abbreviations are allowed as long as it does not impact
the flow of the conversation. NO "1337" speak at all.
- Try to avoid short posts. Being a chat-based guild, the point would be to continue on the conversation, not make the other user(s) keep
the chat going! Also, try to keep it down to about 3 posts in a row.
-
Respect your fellow nerds. Do not act like a "know-it-all" or put other members down. Please neomail Flame if there is any disrespect and it will be dealt
with.
- Please act mature. There is no age requirement as there can be younger kids who act mature and adults who don't.
- Be as active as possible. By joining a chat-based guild we expect you to jump in on the conversation! It's understood if you cannot be
on everyday for whatever reason but please try and post once a week. If you know you will be gone for an extended period of time, please post a
message on the board and add it to the calender. There will be occasional member sweeps and all members in danger of a sweep will receive a
neomail around 3 or more days prior to the sweep.
- Lastly, have fun!
Ranks
Being a chat-based guild with no point system, ranks are based on post count alone. However, if you are seen spamming quite often, you will have to have even more posts in order to gain the next rank. Posts fixing typo's that impact what you were trying to say and accidental double posts do not count as spamming (and double posts will be removed by council, no need to say sorry for it).- New Nerd You will start out as this.
- Junior Nerd 100 posts
- Settled Nerd 300 posts
- Seasoned Nerd 1000 posts
- Veteran Nerd 2000 posts
If council positions are open, feel free to apply for them. Just because you have a high post count, for example, does not mean you will be gaurenteed the spot. Rather I am looking for someone who is helpful and active. Also note, that I am never in a rush to fill the positions. Council members get to choose and change their own rank whenever they wish.
FAQ
Q: Does UN have any 1np auctions or things of that nature?A: No. I (Flame) feel that requiring members to donate money or items to provide these is unfair as some members will donate and others won't and then still participate.
Q: Does UN have activities I can do?
A: Currently, No. There will never be teams or a point system in the guild, so if there are ever any activities, they would only be for fun. However, if you wish to start board games (trivia, hypothetical questions, etc), you are more than welcome to without asking permission. The guild is what you make it!
Q: Will UN ever be private?
A: No. We had a vote and it seemed more members preferred a public guild. As a way to counteract overpopulation, when the guild is "full" we will not be advertising. However, when the activity level begins to drop, we will resume advertising.
Q: Will UN have a member cap?
A: I want to keep UN as a smaller, close-knit guild, but I also want members from various time-zones so no matter what time, there is always a handful of members to chat with. Continuing on from the last question, by only advertising when the activity level begins to drop, the total member count will stay around the perfect amount where there is always someone to talk to but not so much where someone will get ignored in conversation. DO NOT be scared of the member count if it is higher than your liking, if the guild interests you and that is the only thing keeping you away, please give us a chance and you will see it is not bad at all!
Q: Does the chat have to be on nerdy subjects only?
A: No, of course not! The nerdy theme is just a way to bring like minded people together and to provide an icebreaker for conversation.
Q: What are the most common interests in UN?
A: That is really a hard question. An easier question would be "Is ____ a common interest in the guild?" and I will try me best to answer it. Most more common fandoms are covered in the guild with the current memberbase. If you have some lesser known interest, come try us out, someone else may share it and just have never mentioned it!
Also, have a look at our Members Page to get a good idea of our current members interests. (These profiles are completely optional and so do not reflect the ideas of the guild as a whole).
If this page hasn't answered your questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
