The Well-Discussed Topic of Meepits

By: Cecilia (brilliance109p)

Neopia is a place with plenty of things to be discovered; vast landscapes and interesting lands. But for every place like Neopia, there are evil villains looking to wreak havoc or take over. The Defenders of Neopia are constantly on their toes, looking out for another one of Dr. Sloth's evil schemes, for a nasty blast from Meuka, or a spot of trouble with a dark faerie...

But what of the meepits? Meepits are infamous for their plots for taking over Neopia. The image of the meepit has been used in powerful Haunted Woods weapons, in spooky furniture. And yet, Neopians, being the funny lot we are, every day spend frantic hours connecting pipes and feeding these little villains in Meepit Juice Break. The very best meepit feeders are even awarded a shiny trophy. And all for fueling on Neopian-domination-scheming meepits! And although meepits are constantly putting their heads together and plotting against us, we still spend months and months saving up for a little meepit as a petpet of our own, whoops of delight abound when we finally achieve this goal.

One game that brings us to the opposite side of this 'Friend or Foe?' question is Meepit vs. Feepit. But do these small, pink, big-eyed petpets deserve to be battered and beaten in such a way? Are they really evil enough to deserve such a punishment? And what is the true extent of what a meepit can do if he really does decide to carry out his Neopian Domination plans?

We doubt that even the most learned Neopian petpet experts can tell us exactly what goes on inside the mind of meepit, because all they ever say is "meep".

Question, questions. Plenty of questions. But answers; there are few. Nobody is entirely certain of the brain power of one meepit, let alone a meepit army, and nobody wants to take any bets on that either. Even the Neopedia page on meepits when attempting to explain these petpets failed to do so- why? Because of meepit masterminds, or perhaps a coincidental fault in the system...? Ah, we dare not reveal our views, for fear of the meepits...

I, for one am undecided as to whether meepits are dangerous at all or not. However, I do remember my first encounter with a meepit most vividly.

Last week, my dear cybunny Arapheine turned 400 days old and I asked her where she would like to go for a little adventure. Rather unexpectedly, she told me she fancied a few games of Test Your Strength and Bagatelle at the Deserted Fairground. Quite naturally, I told her this probably wasn't the best place to go for a celebration, but Arapheine insisted.

Half an hour following this saw Arapheine, Xellun, Coffee and I walking through the Haunted Woods towards the Deserted Fairground. It was awfully dark, although Arapheine does have excellent eyesight and she bounded happily ahead of us, an odd little bit of brightness unfittingly situated among sharp branches and awfully scary rustling sounds. Coffee walked beside me looking anxious, Xel simply looked rather bored. She is known to often take leisurely strolls within the Haunted Woods on her own. Our journey was slower than we would've liked (well, we would've liked to have run as fast as we could) on account of the big bag of gifts and party essentials that I was lugging behind me. Rather heavy, too.

We finally emerged at the Deserted Fairground. Other Neopians were there, arguing with the owners of the stands who insisted their games were not rigged, many Neopets desperately smashing the hammer down at Test Your Strength and getting more and more frustrated as they were told their score was 'useless'. Some Neopets were also clutching things that looked like eyeballs and assorted pickled foods held at arm's length; supposedly won from one of the fairground games. Arapheine stopped her bounding about abruptly.

Mummy, look!"

A meepit, looking not unlike an overlarge pink jellybean with disturbingly large eyes stared up at us, his face unreadable. I looked into those big eyes and thought, 'Oh, he is rather cute, isn't he? Surely he wouldn't dream of taking over Neopia? He looks quite innocent to me…' A purple Kougra suddenly appeared, and seizing the hand of the meepit, he leapt away saying, "Come on, George, let's go and play Carnival of Terror!"

Do you know what George said?

Ah yes, most clever reader. He said, 'Meep.'

As he was being led away, he continued to stare and me and my Neopets (by now I had herded them all close to me and subconsciously putting my arms over them protectively) in an oddly evil way. We left Haunted Woods with the sound of the meepit's 'meep' echoing in my ears.

After that I became wary of them. Their secretive nature simply made them even more frightening, the way that meepit eyed us so very unblinkingly…

They could just be ordinary petpets, overestimated in intelligence and utterly innocent in every way. Perhaps they are miserable of their appearance and wish that we would see them for who they really were, looking past the gaze of the meepit eye that gives us the shivers, looking past the evil aura and buck teeth, and inside see a petpet wanting to be loved. Perhaps they simply seem like they are up to something when really, all they want is juice.

Or they could really be evil villains in the making! Alas, we believe the meepits may be planning something rather worrying, but they are staying the shadows to avoid the spotlight of Neopian justice so they have the element of surprise. My good fellow Neopians, keep your wits about you. They could be anywhere, biding their time, waiting, waiting. Never let your guard down, or you may find yourself-
