Last update -June 18th, 2011; I decided to renovate this page, for the first time in four years!
I could not figure out how to fix the menu for IE, so I added a second one, sorry!

[sioa, the last maraquan uni]

greetings from the deep

There is a world out there; where the light dosn't shine and the dark is glued to the water...

You swim peacefully through the warm, fresh waters, as these words appear, spinning, in your mind.

This dark world has not a positive thing about it. No life can survive the in such a darkness for long, for the dark waters are not normal. They feel are still, with no sound, and no one being can handle can retain sanity while traveling through...
Nothing can live in it without losing its grip on life...

You peer ahead, where the waters dissapear into darkness. Behind your tail, light shimmered and danced in the light of noon on sunny day. But the stories made you curious; you had your mind set on finding these "dark" waters...

But listen closely, young'un.
Something is fighting those dark waters...
For areas where waters had dwelt in darkness, now live in the daylight waters, and the fish have returned...

These waters are being re-lit...
but by what?
or, by whom?

You smile slightly to yourself, the old man's words remained in your mind. This wise elder had never himself swum into the waters, and now here you were.
You would prove your courage by finding who lit the these cursed waters, and to see how they brought life back to these oceans...

You pressed into the dark waters, slowly, as the sun withered and died, within mere minutes. A faint light could still be seen behind you, but still you were determined find the thing that caused the darkness to banish.
The darkness pressed against your eyes, and your muscles began to ache. You must have been swimming for hours when your tail finally brushed against something. If felt hard, and sturdy. A rock...perhaps, you think to yourself, as you become more cautious about where you swam.
Finally, surrendering to your exhaustion, you decide to rest. Apparently these waters were much bigger than you had thought they were; this journey was not going to be any easy one.

---

You startled awake at the sun shining upon your face, your eyes blinking, unable to register anything. You yelp slightly when you suddenly realize- it is not daylight, but a fire which blazed around you. Fiery oranges and yellows in all the colors possible danced around your body.
Eventually, light dying candle flame, the fire withered, and with it, the darkness... disappeared. You blink in utter surprise, as a tall, blue uni hovered above you, her powerfull tail propelling the water. A pair of wings made of pure fire hovered abover her back, before they too, faded.
You gaze up at her, as the sun rays hit the ocean floor below you and ask one simple question, "Who are you?"*

Sioa's Story
Part One; Into The Darkness

Screams echoed threw the underwater canyon, bouncing off the stone walls and galloping back to the other side, echoing back and forth.
Sioa trembled as the water began to spin and turn with deadly speed, cutting off the outside world around everything she knew. Her friends, family and home.
Why had she left? She was only exploring the outer caves for a few hours and when she came back...this was happening.
A wall of turning water circled her kingdom, her home, like a tornado.
Turing her eyes to the surface of the ocean, she flipped around into more comfortable position for looking up. There, was a small dark shadow sitting on or under the surface of the waves, too big to be any animal. Shaking her head in confusion, the Uni blinked. The column of deadly spinning water seamed to be coming from the shadow.
Her eyes wandered back down to Maraqua, where the waters were getting stronger, and she could no longer even see the faint outlines of the buildings of the kingdom threw the wall of bubbles and gushing water. The roaring whirlwind was expanding, she thought with sudden horror, for it was getting larger, slowly crawling closer across the ocean bed towards Sioa and beyond.
Frantically, the Uni swam back and forth thinking. Why wasn't anyone able to get out? Was it really cutting everything off? I must do something! But she couldn't, looking at the whirlwind of water, she realized. It was encaging everything, and nothing could get in or out. It was starting to pick up speed, and she had to get out. Fast.
So with a racing heart, she turned around, bound to the dark waters to where she had came from only minutes ago...

Sioa swam, taking in short breaths in panic. The oceans started to darken as she entered the land of the dark caves, of which she had always had a deep interest in.
But not now. The roar of thunderous water was still ranging a battle in her ears and she raced threw the waters, not really looking where she was going. Small caves flew across the corners of her vision, that could barely hold her, or ones that were to open and wouldn't offer enough protection. She could only imagine what would happen if the madly turning waters would do if they sucked her up...

The father she went into the dark waters, the less she could see, until she slammed head-on into a rock wall.

Groggily, the Uni opened her eyes. All she could she was blackness, and all she could tell was that she was lying on a rocky ocean floor. That and the silence. No distant screams, no roaring water, not even the movement of choppy waters of an average windstorm, for the water seamed still. Sioa only herd herself trying to get back up in the water, and herself crashing down on her knees after feeling a stabbing pain in her tail. It must be over she though sadly, thinking only of what could have happened in the whirlwind.

Her tail was damaged, she must have landed on it badly when she fell. She groaned, I guess I'll just have to wait this one out she thought sullenly. Without the ability to move or see, she just lay there, and exhausted, drifted slowly into a fitful sleep.
When Sioa awoke, her mind was clear and she felt a bit better. Stretching her long tail, pain still seared down it, but it wasn't as bad.
Slowly, she rose in the water, looking around, I must be a cave, or else I'd see a light in the distance of the oceans in daylight. Or unless its night.... Gently the Uni moved her tail and propelled herself slowly threw the water, turning. Finally, she saw a soft light. Stretching her legs, she moved forward as slowly as a jellyfish, not wanting to jerk her tail and cause pain.
The sky was starting to darken, as the sun went down, but her eyes were keen to night in the daylight waters and she could see every detail of the smallest scale on her tail in the night. After what seamed like forever, mounds of rock became clearer and clearer and she could see details of the ocean floor far below which gave her courage to swim on.

As soon as Sioa saw the cliff that dropped off into the canyon of her home, she forgot her injured tail and raced forward. But she only got as far as the edge of the canyon.
Gasping, she stared at a deep crack that went into nothingness that jarringly split the ocean bed, houses and buildings tipped alarming close to tumbling into its depths. Part of the castle was gone, having dropped into oblivion.
Slowly she dove down, reaching the bottom of the floor bed and choked back a cry. Nothing was as it had been, and a dead silence blanketed the kingdom.
Softly the Uni called out as she swam by shattered houses, "Mama?, Papa?" but none responded.
*"Sianna? Reeah?" Calling out her friends names but when she got no response, she yelled, "Anyone?!"*

But only her voice echoed off of the walls of the houses in her empty home, as tears leaked out of Sioa's eyes and joined the waters around her. Shaking her head, she dove into a nearby house a settled down on the sand cover ground, resting her head on the floor.
Suddenly, she heard the faint stirrings of water as someone passed outside the house, laughing. Laughing.
*"You said you heard something, Kenit?" Said the amused voice.
*I swear I did!" A voice responded angrily, he must be Kenit Sioa mused.
*"Oh give it a break. They're all gone. We won't be seeing any kingdom under the seas again. Only on the ship." The voice cackled and added, "Which you should report too."*

Sioa blinked, and one word crossed her mind pirates. She needed to leave, again. If they found her...
The Uni waited for what seamed like forever, listening for any sounds after the two neopians had left, bickering, for their ship.
As quietly as she could, she left the house, heading back towards the dark waters. What she would do there, she had no clue. But tears blinded her eyes, as she raged inside.
Pirates! I should have known! You can never trust them, but why? Why oh why? Making her way back to the caves in the soft orange light of the setting sky she found the large cave she had found earlier and settled down on patch of seaweed. Looking up, she blinked. That is no setting sun, she stared at a path of...light? From the direction of the daylight oceans...huh? She hadn't heard anyone fallow her, or felt it.
Jumping back up, she curiously swam closer to see...fire?! Fire in water, that's not possible!
But it was...somehow. For the dancing orange crackling flames were definitely fire. She looked down at her hooves and let out a shocked yell.
Her hooves were on fire!

Sioa's Story
Part Two; Lighting the Dark

Sioa shut her eyes tightly, trying to clear her mind.
She let out a slow breath and imagined the flames searing through the darkness and her eye lids fluttered open.
The Uni glanced down at her hooves, which now flamed with a bright fire that flickered with rage at the dark. Slowly, she traced a figure in the air with her right leg, and she hovered there, in the water, still once more. The flickering orb or fire danced for a while, lighting up the cave of which Sioa had made her home. Then the vanished.
Sioa sighed. She had camped out in the dark waters for quite a while, but without a sun to light the time of day - well, she couldn't keep track of time. Ever since the first catching - what she had decided to call her hooves when they caught on fire - she had been working on lighting the cave and making a fire to see by.
But it was not easy; not in the slightest.
*"You stupid flames," The Uni cried out in exasperation, "What am I going to do?"*
Sioa had lived in waters for a while enough to make a habit of talking to herself, letting her voice carry away into oblivion, in ever direction that is wandered away into to. Other than the crackling flames, she made the only sound that could be heard.
Sioa swam around in a few circles, in frustration, as the silence pressing into her ears.
Pausing, she took a deep breath and stilled her movements. Its no use splashing around like a freak, she thought as she cleared her mind and focused on the warmth and heat of fire.
But she wasn't feeling warm, it was impossible to center her mind around a flame in these waters. And as her mind wandered, no fire caught.
And so, once more, she consumed her self to circling around in tight turns in the water, occasionally flickering her tail against some unseen rock.
Its like this every day, fire and then none. How can I see anything that I do? I can't even hide, how can hide properly with out light?! What kind of a Uni am I? Not a proud one, someone who would go back and fight those pirates. Stupid pirates, why did you have to come? I would so whip your fins out of place... she thought mostly bitter thoughts as she circled around and grumbled to her self. The sound of going back and fighting and standing up to those pirates was a good idea, and the scene opened up and spread across her mind.
The sound of fire brought her back to reality and she suddenly stopped her frantic swimming.
*"Yet, you always decided to catch when I don't plan for you to light up." she said with a snort.
But Sioa paused and as she looked down at her hooves, flicked her tail feeling slightly unsure as she saw no flame leap from them.
*"What the..." was all she could muster as she whipped around and out of the corner of her eye she saw, a flame leaping and dancing from her back.
The Uni twisted her long neck around and saw stared at the odd formation and her jaw nearly dropped, "I have wings...?"*
For indeed, the fire seamed to have taken on the form of long feathered wings, which roared and danced as a flame.
*"I have wings!" she nearly shouted for joy, for she had been born wingless, and had always had the deep desire to have a pair of her own.
She tried moving them, but nothing happened. Only when she concentrated, and in her minds eye, moved the wings could she stretch them out and dash across the waters flapping her wings haphazardly as she beat her tail with the same rhythm.
She thought rather suddenly, that maybe she could go back.... But just as quickly, all her doubts clouded her mind and she shook her head and the wings vanished.

Sulking slightly, she headed for the ocean floor, disappointed that the wings didn't last. As she settled down, stretching her long body across the rocky sea bead, a thought suddenly occurred to her.
*"Its the fight..." she said softly, tailing up as thoughts scurried her mind and she said aloud absent mindedly, "Fire is strong and is always fighting...fighting against whatever is there.
Bits and pieces seamed to fit together and a though suddenly occurred to her, so that's why the catching only happens when I think of fighting the pirates.
Sioa flicked her tail and leaped up into the still waters above her and swam around in though.

*"Maybe the catching doesn't happen when you simply imagine flames...or try to feel it." She paused as she continued talking to herself, "Maybe its thinking like fire. Wanting to move on, and blaze forever...and fight...fight what?"*
She looked around her, and saw the darkness press around, and saw nothing. But she knew that there was a sea bead, there was a sky above her head...somewhere. Sioa knew there were rocks, but only darkness swallowed it.
*"Darkness," she said, simply. Sioa smiled, and she closed her eyes, and thought of the fire swelling up inside and bursting out, spreading out through waters around her. She saw the darkness wither and the orange flames consumed them and she saw the sun beat down, helping to banish of the darkness. She fought down the other thoughts and though of only one thing.
Fighting the darkness.
And, somehow, it worked.

For when she opened her eyes, flames roared and screamed around her, and she nearly had to clamp her ears shut it was so loud. She fire bathed around her, but let the Uni pass by, unhurt. After a while the fire seamed to retreat and as it circled around her, the orange flames died.
But it wasn't dark.
She saw what was around her, and she saw the bare, rocky sand below here. True, the darkness still surrounded her, but she has the cleared some of it.
Sioa looked up and a grin covered her face. She saw the waves, it had been forever since she sad seen the roof of the ocean. Sun beams flooded down and danced around her as sunlight flooded down.

Sioa's Story
Part Three; Elemental of Fire

It had been a while since Sioa had first banished the darkness.
She had spent many weeks, working at what she could do with the fire, even going as far as creating a creature, which had come to her in great surprise.
But now, being alone had finally gotten to her. As much as she enjoyed banishing the darkness, it was difficult to do and took a great deal of energy. No, she wanted to go find other people.
Sioa couldn't go home, she knew that now. But perhaps she could find out more to what had happened on land. Perhaps, she could find others who could control fire, and help fight the darkness...
And so, that was how the Uni left. Her head held high, in search of answers, and looking for land. Traveling into the daylight waters and swimming at a fast pace.

Sioa had rarely ever visited land but she knew what to expect. As she pulled herself out of the waves and onto a beach, she waited patiently as her Maraquan tail morphed into two legs. It was common for Maraquans to have the power and she looked around the beach. A few Neopians were standing huddled together, and some buildings lined the beach hugging the tree line the ended abruptly before open sands.
It was late afternoon, and the sun was playing warm colors on the waves, and the Uni smiled, she would never forget being completely cut off from the sun.
Unsure of what to do, she trotted over to the group of Neopians down the beach. One appeared to be an Aisha holding a wooden staff? Or an Acara...Sioa sighed, she could never tell. A Purple...Kougra with odd wings was bickering with a Xweetok. The Xweetok had brown fur, with various vines and leaves growing around his legs. Sioa stared at the odd group.
*"What?! How can you expect me an Iaz to go give into the water? I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure I can't shift and grow gills," The Xweetok was saying, "How do you know fire can even exist in water? I doubt it can. You know water puts out fire just as well as anyone."*
Sioa ears pricked at the words about fire and she walked a bit closer, and the girl with the staff stiffened and eyed the Uni suspiciously.
Glancing at the girl, Sioa muttered, a bit nervous, "Excuse me, but do you uh...know anything about fire in water?"*
All three turned to her and the girl asked, a bit sharply, "Who are you?
Sioa sighed, she had forgotten how some people could act, "My name is Sioa."*
The Kougra stepped forward, "Ignore Iaz," she said indicating the Aisha/Acara, "My name is Icecreasts. We don't know much about fire under the sea, unfortunately. Would you happen to know anything about it? Or better, anyone who knows something about it?"*
Sioa bucked up a few steps, "Hello...my uh, Kingdom was attacked a while ago, well, actually I'm not sure how long ago. But since then I haven't seen...anyone. I've been kind of...lost." She said a bit uncertainly.
The Xweetok muttered something under his breath a nudged Icecreasts. The Kougress had suddenly locked her eyes onto Sioa and said swiftly, "You wouldn't know how to use fire, would you?"*
*"Uh...yeah I do," Seeing no reason to lie, she went on, "Want me to show you?"*
Eager to get things over with and leave the weird group she looked away and felt her fiery wings grow on her back and stretching them out, she flapped them a few times.
*"I was born wingless, not much use in the water, but they are excellent for light in the dark."*
*"Well that was easy, didn't even have to get wet." Iaz said with a sigh, and with a glance at Icecreasts she sat down in the sand, "This may take a while."*
Icecreasts said quickly, "I believe you are the person we are looking for. The Elemental of Fire."*
*"Huh?" Sioa said, backing up a few steps.
The Xweetok nodded, "That's what I said too, well, it will all make sense once Ice is done explaining."*
Icecreasts smiled and settled herself in the sand, "Yes, there is a lot to say."*

The Elementals
fire, earth, wind, light & water

You have just read the second to last entry in the elementals story. The journey of the elementals is not complete, yet, but the first entry is available for you to read. You can see it on Ice's page.

[here]

and this adventure should make more sense.
but for now, I hope you can enjoy what I have to present you!

Gobaith the Petpet
[gobaith] means "hope".
|Go-bee-th|

A shape emerged from the flames she had created only seconds ago, and two dark eyes seamed to blink open, and the word Dieou seamed to linger in her mind...

Gobaith came from Sioa's flames as she was creating fires one day and he is entirely made of fire complete with a tail and arms. He is often seen floating at the Uni's side, flickering in and out of sight with the heat of a fire. Gobaith is connected to Sioa, so when she is weak, his flaming body shrinks and to nothing but a mere dwindling flame.

Sioa- champion of the darkness
elemental of flames, just exactly, who are you?

Growing up, Sioa was more of a quiet child. She never was a leader, always a follower. Afraid to do things for herself, and happy to be with a smaller group of friends. However, this clearly changes quickly when her homeland is destroyed and she is left to fend on her own.
Sioa not only learns that she must be headstrong, but she learns to fight, and to fight for survival. She becomes tough, and when she does come across other living beings, she appears distant and hard to converse with. A being of a few words, she will be friendly after a while, but it does take work. A loyal friend, Sioa is one who will never give up and will be the ones who fights until the very end.
Her fire wings are something that comforts her, in a slightly twisted sense. After she has removed the darkness, she tries to keep her wings alight to remind herself of who she is, and what she stands for.

Sioa has strong senses, and can see extremely well in the dark, a trait she has developed after living in the dark for years. Being able to feel the slightest movement in the waters is another ability she has acquired.
Sioa enjoys spending most of her time in the empty and deserted waters of the ocean, and prefers not to come into contact with strangers when possible.
Like any sea creature, she loves to ride large stormy waves. It is possible to see her flames dancing on the ocean's surface when the sea is most dangerous, and you can almost hear here laughter ring across the air...

relatives
the ones who can relate to you, and will always be there.

Zarinte

Apart from the elementals, Zarinte is probably the closest friend Sioa has. Zarinte ran into the fire bearer on one her many wanderings, one day. After watching her from a distance, she finally approached. Sioa's powers seemed to give relief to Zarinte, something the startled them both.

Aiyake

Aiyake dwells in dark places in the deepest of oceans, where no is around when he transforms. Sioa found him, after cleaning away the dark waters one day. Her instinct was to help him, even though he pushed her away. She refused to give up, however, and eventually kept him company while he was transformed.

Ice

Ice gets along with Sioa probably best, as she can transform into a water daemon herself. They have traveled the waters many a times, and Sioa has shown Ice her world, and taught her that there is nothing to fear from the deep waters.

Iaz

Iaz and Sioa get along quite well enough, and both share a disdain for Flaries. Though, they have quite different personalities, though they do share the the trait of fierce determination.

Floresta

Sioa was able to relate with Floresta when it came to loss of a family and loved ones. However, she was able to kindle in him a bit of hope, when she taught him that fire is more than something that destruction.

Flaries

Flaries loves Sioa, simply because he thinks she is cool. He often will scramble up onto her back without asking, which thoroughly angers her. But she puts up with him, or just will burn him a bit with her wings.

Sioa's Design
[anthro version]
for the elemental of fire

[To full view, click and drag the image to your address bar]

Sioa's design is rather simple colors, although her scales are rather shiny and reflect surrounding colors easily.
Her hoofs have flames that reach halfway up her legs, and are on her tail along with greens and blues that reach across the tips of her tail fin.

She does have wings, but only when she really concentrates and focuses her powers can produce wings made entirely of flame.
When she walks on land, mostly in the elemental stories (quad form), her back legs had darker flames, that do not reach as high as the front. Her tail remains the same.

A note of her human form-
I have yet to seriously draw Sioa as a human, but on this current page, you can see her in a human-eqst type form. You are welcome to base anything off of it, if you choose to draw her. Let there be no limits to your creativity! YAYYYYY HAPPINESS.

fire award

[update] this is an award I made a few years ago. I really don't care for it anymore, but if you would like to, you can still apply for it.
Just drop me a neomail, and if I like your page, I'll let you have it! (or whatever award fits your page)

a useless thing

I decided with the different elementals, there shall come the different awards. Thus, these four awards will focus on the different parts of a pet page...

The Fire Award- Will be looking at adoptables, links and awards such as these. Are they neat, and organized?
The Light Award- Looks at the overall look of the layout and art of the character. Is there plenty of art of your character? Or only one piece? Can you easily move around in the layout? Pleasant to the eye?
The Water Award- Looks at a character's story. Dose it help describe and build up the character's personality? Is it well written? Original?
The Earth Award- Looks into the overall text of the page. Is it entertaining? Keeps you reading? Enjoyable, with few typos even if the story is brief?

It is possible to receive all four awards. Though, you can only apply for one every two weeks.
I give suggestions to improve, so this is just a warning.

The rules are pretty simple, put the type of award your applying for such as "The Fire Award" as the title of your neomail, neomailing my main account, Fleana93.
Anyone can apply, at any time.

a parting of ways
leaving the darkness for the world of day;

Sioa looks at you, her eyes blazing.
*"I must leave you now." Her words echoed across the waves and the remaining flames that hovered about, flickered and died.
Only a small area was filled with daylight, and surrounding it, was complete and utter darkness. The tall Uni nodded to you once, then turned and entered the dark, no doubt to find someone else who needs their way lighted.
*"Please, no, not in the dark!" You cry out in despair.
*"I will always be here to light the sea..." Sioa voice came drifitng from the wall of darkness and a large fire swirled and burst, roaring and crackling at your side.
As you turned the fire tumbeled through the waters, at youur side, to the light the way.
The Uni was no where to be found. Only a few bubbles and the warm fire were to be seen, yet, her presence was still there, lighting your way home.
