EKoN Training Guide

Welcome to Lady Resmiranda's training guide, designed for EKoN! All of the information here is readily available throughout the internet and fellow Neopian players petpages and personal websites. Please don't steal anything from here and list it as original work, that's just not nice! All personal opinions and comments throughout this training guide are annotated in purple so as not to confuse anyone. Everyones battledome needs are different, and there is truly no "perfect" or set way to train your pets. Whatever feels comfortable to you both in time and budget is what is "right"!

Throughout the guide, there will be links for you to browse to different portions of the Neopets.com website. I have done the best that I can to keep the information clear and concise, but if you have any questions at all, please feel free to Neomail me here. Some basic terminology is listed below for your convenience.

Stats: Stats are the numbers/words beneath your pet's description in the "Neopet Info" box. Stats include: Health (Endurance), Mood, Hunger, Strength, Defense, Move (Agility), and Intelligence. Your pets "mood" will not effect their performance in the battledome (but it can trigger unwanted random events for some of you more flamboyant pets out there!), and the Hunger needs to be fed up to any degree above 'Hungry' before you are able to battle, but the rest of them can all play a role.

Codies/Codes: These stand for 'Codestones' which are used to train at Mystery Island or the Secret Ninja Training School.

More to follow!

Good luck!

Why Should YOU Train?

Training is used as a means of increasing your pets statistic levels (stats) so your pet performs better in a battledome. Much like a real person lifting weights or running, different training methods can yield different results. Which we'll get into below.

Stat Boosts: A "stat boost" is when your pet reaches a certain level bracket in their strength or defense stat. Each level bracket increases either the amount of damage they can do or defend against. Defense is a tricky subject, since it's not on an even keel like strength modifications are. However they are equally important. Defense can mitigate damage done to your neopet to allow you to fight on longer during battle. Below I've included a general Strength Boost table, to show you where to aim your strength modifier.

Level 1-7 8-12 13-19 20-34 35-54 55-84 85-124 125-199 200-249 250-299 300-349 350-399 400-449 450-499 500-549 550-599 600-649 650-699 700+
Boost Mod 0.5 0.75 1.00 1.25 1.5 2.0 2.5 3.0 4.5 5.5 6.5 7.5 8.5 9.75 11 12 13 14 15
Here's an example of where your Strength bonus comes into play. I equipped both my BD pet (Millenium_wolf666) and my lonely young labber pet (Nilenti) with the same exact weapon. Notice the difference in the damage done (despite having the same number of icons appear on the screen!) in relation to their strength modifiers.

How To Train
There are several different methods that people rely on to train their neopet.

1. Training Schools Training schools are where you enroll your pet into a specific course, training each individual statistic at a set price and set course time. You do have to follow a specific pattern in order to get the most for your money (more on that later!) and you must also be very dedicated to remembering to go and complete your training manually after the timer has expired. -Hands down, one of the most effective ways to train your pet if you're desiring very even stats.-

2. Quests You can also increase your stats by completing various quests around Neopia. Some of these quests are at-will and others are completely random and given from the faeries of Neopia. Kitchen Quests vary in price, and are optional. Even if you accept one - you can always wait for the timer to run out if you don't want to complete it. It is also not a guarantee that you will be awarded a stat gain from completing the quest either. You could get an NP award or an item. So BEWARE that it might not be a steady training program. Faerie Quests, however, are not timed at all. You can take as long as you like in completing them. Each faerie offers a different reward, and you can always return to Faerieland to decline the quest if you don't think it's worth it.

Air Faerie (Grooming Items) +Movement Light Faerie (Collectable Cards) + Level
Darkness Faerie (Toys) Hit Points Water Faerie (Books) + Defense
Earth Faerie (Magic Items) Bloats your Pet Faerie Queen (Anything) +1 Level, +3 Strength, +3 Movement
Fire Faerie (Clothing) +Strength Space Faerie (Anything) +4 Levels

-Sometimes the Kitchen Quests can be incredibly cheap and more cost effective than conventional training.. but you can't control where the awarded stat points (if any) go. Much the same with Faerie Quests. If you have only one pet for the quest rewards.. then it's completely worth it where you can fit it into your training regiment. I just wouldn't suggest it if you're one of those folks (like me!) who has an account stuffed full of pets.-

3. Secret Lab Ray A little unconventional... but the Secret Laboratory Ray can also increase your stats. BUT... it can also decrease them as well. Unlike training schools, there is no pattern or rhythm you need to adhere to. However, if you ever want to train at the schools at a later date - the lab ray can skew your stats and wind up costing you tons of NP to even them out before you can even progress your stats as you would like. It's also got a high price tag, a whopping 760k-780k for the set. -In my experience, the lab can increase any stat.. but it does not take away strength. I've had a pet with over 150 Strength and a mere 8 defense because of the lab ray. It's nice if you're a casual BD player, but for anyone looking to get more serious I would not suggest it as a primary training method. Especially if your arsenal includes species-specific healers/freezers.-

4. Free Training Days Each species has a special 'day' dedicated to them every year. On those days, the
