The name's Rat. Obviously, it's not really Rat; no one's called me by my real name in over a life time though, so I guess that technically means it's not really even my name no more.
I've done a lot of hairy things in my day, but everyone has their regrets, and that's okay. It was all in the job. I admit though, I know it'll all catch up to me at one point or another, but that's a'ight.
But how rude of me, would you like a cup o' jo? It's a fresh brew.

In Role Play, Rat can go either two ways:
He can be his akward self
Or he can just get right in there and be almost obnoxious.

Rat is normally in the city, normally always. He's really just a normal person, no super human skills, and no magical powers of any sort.
Rat is my average Joe :D with green hair.

~Neomail me~ to role play with him (to be a link)

Being just a small lad, I really don't know what happened for sure, but I know it definitely wasn't good. Growing up, I used to beg my brothers to tell me why we lived in the sewers, why I couldn't go outside and play in the parks, or why we didn't have any parents; they would just ignore me though, so I'd go back to spending my time by watching the outside world through the storm drains, or by exploring the endless tunnels.
It never really bothered me that they wouldn't tell me anything. I was just a very curious lad, and I was content in being able to hide in the shadows and watch people.

It wasn't really until I was a bit older that my brother, Pest, finally gave me a gist of why everything was the way it was. Vermin, our elder brother, did something. That's all he'd hint to, however. We used to have a family, parents, even a sister, but he did something. To this very day, I'm still not exactly sure as to what he did, but I'd rather not know.

Vermin was the leader figure of our clan, and yes, we weren't the only ones hiding down the sewers. We began as the first ones, but seeing as how it was going so well for us, Vermin decided we should recruit those in need. Give them a home. A family. And surprisingly, a lot of people were rather fond of The Clan, and soon, we had a whole city living underground.

Vermin and Pest would pack up their things at night and leave to the outside world; there, they would scale the streets for any potential new members of our ever growing family.

Despite our size, we kept ourselves a secret. Only those in The Clan knew of The Clan. We had a whole system down and everything; we knew when workers would come down, and we knew where to go in case of an emergency. This was our way of life.

Like most, I eventually went into a rebellious teenage phase. I despised my brothers, and I despised The Clan. Basically, I was sick of having never gone outside. I stopped doing my jobs, and most days, I'd sneak off and hide away in the deepest parts of the tunnels. Vermin was furious with me; he often told me to never come back, and I was okay with that.

That's when I started going outside.

At night, I would wriggle my way out, and it was amazing. The air was filled with so many strange new smells, the lights were blindingly magical, and the sky felt so near for the first time in my life. I honestly didn't want to leave this new world.
The moment the sun came up though, I was back in my hole. Still, I knew I'd be back soon.

Then came the next night, and I was already ready to escape back onto the streets. Cautiously climbing a ladder out, the manhole cover suddenly started to open on its own; I immediately dropped to the ground, ducking into the shadows.

."I don't appreciate this idea," a huge hulking black mass began to lower its self from the outside world, nearly blocking out all of the light from the streets, "It's dark, and it smells like a sewer.".

."Obviously," another mumbled, carefully making his way after the other, "I'd rather be here than sitting in jail," he dropped to the ground, brushing the grime off of his suit.

Soon, a small group of men had gathered at the base of the ladder; they reeked of fear.

."Does anyone still have a flashlight? A match? Anything?" the tallest man blindly patted his pockets, still carrying a strong sense of pride. He looked interesting. The men fumbled after him, all trying to navigate through the darkness. I scoffed; it was almost pathetic to watch. Having to live in the dark my whole life, I had never really noticed any difficultly with seeing, but it was always very fun watching newcomers trying to accustom themselves to the new environment.

."Here!" the large one produced a sliver of wood, striking it across its box. Immediately, their circle filled with a faint orange glow; it was almost haunting.

."Quick, now find the flashlight," the tall man motioned to one of the men's bag. The match dropped, refilling the tunnel with black. "Flashlight!" he barked, obviously frustrated.

One of the men grunted, flickering on his old light, flashing it around the tunnel, examining their surroundings. Suddenly, I found the light being shone right onto me; I froze. It had been stupid of me to stick around, and now there they were, looking straight at me.

."There's a kid right here, Boss," the man with the light blinked. I still couldn't move; I felt like a deer in headlights.

The tall man stepped up, looking me over, "I see that," he crossed his arms. I guess he was Boss. "Do you got a name, kid?".

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

."Name?" he barked at me again.

."Rat." I blurted out, my voice cracking in the process.

The other men laughed, "Well that's appropriate," Boss gave a smirk, "So what's your name?".

."Rat." I repeated cautiously, unsure as to why he'd ask twice.

He frowned, "You're serious, aren't you?".

I gave a quick nod.

."Wow. Poor kid. Why are you down here?".

."I live here," you could hear the nervousness in my voice.

The purr of an engine suddenly rolled over us. Boss looked at his watch and nodded to the other men. "Look kid, I gotta go, but will you do something for me?".

Another nod.

."Meet me here again. Tomorrow. Same time." he and the other men began to file back up the ladder, disappearing into a large black car. The moment the manhole cover was back in place, I let out a heavy sigh. I had a feeling that I had just made one huge mistake.

Rat sniffled as he propped his chin on the old rotting window sill. She was an interesting creature, probably just a year younger than him or so. He had heard her name so many times from her family, Ginny. Rat did have to admit though that he did feel weird watching her all the time, she saw him sometimes, it scared him. She'd often run to her parents squealing about how the green haired boy was back, and that was when he would make his hasty escape. He took a deep breathe, "Ginny?" it was only a squeak, but he was ready to slip away, his adrenaline pumping.
She turned over in her bed, and for once, she didn't run. He cocked his head at her and gave a small smile, she looked at him unsure. "Who are you?" Rat slowly stood, he was tall for being a thirteen year old boy.
He thought for a second, wondering if he should really talk to her, "Rat" he slowly moved himself so he was sitting on the bench of her window, he blinked at her. She sat up in her large fluffy pink bed.
She huffed, "And can I ask you why you always watch me?" She glared at him stubbornly, Rat blushed. She threw a soft pillow at him as he delayed his response by yawning a long fake yawn. "It's kind of weird you know," Ginny frowned.
Rat couldn't think of a good enough answer, he just blushed again, "I don't know," he frowned back, "you're interesting, I guess."
The footsteps of her parents echoed through the halls outside her bedroom door; Rat slid out in no time, Ginny called after him, frustrated, but it was time to go.
He had become amazingly good at sneaking around the place, people only saw him if he wanted them too. His job called for this skill. It was quite a curious line of work, but he enjoyed it, though he knew not much good came from it most of the time. People from all over the city hired him as a snitch, to watch certain people, to listen; even the cops used his services. It was a big job for a thirteen year old boy, but he enjoyed it.
It was an odd story how Rat had come into this all. He was only six years old, exploring the sewers. Rat had ran into some odd men in black suits, he took the chance to talk away his secrets, all about his hobby and how he loved to watch people, bragging about how no one could find him. He realized he had probably talked to much when one man took interest, before asking him to watch someone for him, paying him a good bit of money (which meant more chocolate cake for the green haired boy). Word spread, and he was soon asked more and more.
The next night he slid back onto the white window seat in Ginny's room. She sat waiting, brushing her short red hair. "So where do you live," she yawned.
Rat shrugged, "The sewers I guess," he never really called them that, but he still knew the city folk did.
She smiled, "I bet that smells pleasant," she giggled, "can I come live there too?" Rat looked up at her oddly, but she seemed serious.
."Why?" he had always wanted a life like hers, a home, parents. He sat, confused, almost frustrated.
She shrugged back at him, "Life here's boring," she looked down. That was it? Rat huffed, but thought. He smiled, not sure if he was making a right decision or not, but he took her hand and out the window they went.

It was two years later when the Disease came, Ginny was the first to catch the green hives. Vermin was unsure what to do with her, no one had ever seen the odd infection before, and then more Clan members started to become infected, more and more dropping down lifeless everyday. Vermin was afraid. He sent the infected away, far away, down the sewers in the parts no one rarely went.
Every night Rat would still sneak down to see his friend, he wasn't worried about getting infected. He would bring her snacks to make her feel better, normally coffee and cake, which they ate often before the Disease. He sighed as he threw a blanket over her shoulders, she looked down.
Rat tried to be supportive, "I'm sure it'll go away." He plopped down next to his foster sister. She looked at his arm.
."Rat…" He looked down, small green hives were already forming.
He sighed, "Huzzah," he mumbled, "Coffee and Cake is the best cure then…" he smiled at her, rubbing the new hives on his arm, "and it means I get to stay her now," he laughed, leaning his head on the old gray wall behind them.
Ginny bit her lip, "I guess you're right." She sipped at her coffee, the warmth was nice. "I think I'm going to leave," Rat looked up, curious, "maybe I'm the one infecting everybody," she yawned, resting her chin on her knees.
Rat shoved her lightly, "Don't even think that…. Silly girl.

Vermin is Rat's eldest brother. He doesn't have the same father as Rat and Pest, but he's still a blood relative. He's the leader of the Clan and is quite picky on how things are ran, but Rat still puts up with him even though he doesn't love him as much as he did as a child.

Pest has always been the more rebellious boy, Vermin is always telling him "You aren't a teen, so stop acting like one". He probably only stays around the Clan for the free food, who wouldn't? When he thirteen, he dragged Rat with him to get piercings, and a tattoo. Vermin almost kicked Pest out of the clan for it, but Rat persuaded him not to, and Rat is just a cutie, Vermin couldn't resist his charm.

Ginny isn't actually a blood relative to Rat, but she was one of the first members of the Clan. She's just a year younger than Rat, and he's always taken a liking to her~ He considers her his sister, and probably always will, even if she left the Clan as soon as she turned fifteen.
She was the first victim of the disease, Rat also caught it from her. She's a rare poisonous sub-species of draik which leaks red poison from her eyes, she often wears a bandage over them to prevent the liquid from getting on anything. She's tough in many ways and often gets in many fights over little things, scarring herself up often. Arty is a crazy little aisha with an unnatural obsession with tuna. He has no heart; he's willing to do anything to anyone if it helps him in any way at all. He's a silly little man, the only love he has in him is for his 'little brother'... who is also the only creature he will EVER share his tuna with.
Rat's connection with Arty is a curious one... Rat was chasing down Arty after he stole a newly purchased can of tuna from his grocery bag; it ended with Rat in a containment hold as Arty tried to steal more stuff from his bag. Rat's still holding a grudge against him for hurting his pride...

Loich lives off in the wastelands of Sol, pretty much the junk yard for all of Sol. She's a waste demon who likes to collect shiny things or anything that catches her eye. She sleeps upside down... and walks on ceilings.
When Rat was a little boy, he ran away after Pest hollered at him, he decided to keep running the sewers to see where he'd end up, and eventually he came to the wastelands. Loich found his as a hungry lost little creature and took pity on him, helping him back on his feet. Loich is almost Rat's motherly figure of his life.

Adie is a Herz Esser, a creature who feasts on human's hearts. He's just my typical depressed evil little man-child character who hates life and has hawt emo hair, and you can't forget that awesome Fedora he's wearing :D
Because Rat's Semie's friend, he has to deal with Adie often. Adaish is very hot-headed, but Rat still slaps a smile on his face. Now Adie tolerates (lol) Rat to a point, so Rat just enjoys sitting back and watching him tear people's egos down.

Semie has the mentality of an eight year old, but that doesn't stop her. She's a Herz Esser, just like Adaish, but unlike the rest of her kind... she's obsessed with human food. Mainly chocolate. and more chocolate. chocolate.
Semie loves Rat like he's her older brother, and he loves her back. Rat and Semice both like to hang out at a cafe, and they're both obsessed with the chocolate cake there, so they eventually clicked. Rat's always there to make sure she's safe whenever Adaish is away

Surul is a spoiled little princess with a dark secret. She loves bossing everyone around, especially under the influence of her 'imaginary friend'. She loves her demon friend and does anything to keep him secret, but not like anything would happen to her if he was found out... she's a princess after all
Rat has actually had to do much dirty work for the princess. She's an odd little creature, and as soon as she found out about Rat, she called him down to the desert and hired him briefly, all while he had to rat on her to a suspicious advisor

Ero is a storyteller who's lived many centuries through different lives. He guides his villages by his stories, but dreads every second of it. He hates hearing the voices of his old lives in his head and often feels insane...
Ero met Rat while traveling one day, Rat found the tall boy in a large parka an odd sight, but decided to help the lost creature as he wandered aimlessly on the streets. Ero is like Rat's third brother to him.

Augher is my little zombie lady killer man. He has a super delicious silky smooth stripy gray and white mane which is just made of pure... epic. He sews new limbs onto himself daily, though he prefers striped limbs; polka dots just look silly after all. He can only grunt and make various moans too, how cool is that?
Rat and Augher have an interesting relationship... Rat found Augher in the sewers just chillin' like he owned the place, so Vermin had him kick the poor zombie face out, but Rat though Augher was coolio and decided to keep him as his pet, he eventually learned he was a zombie after Augher tried to eat his brainz and had to let his dear pet go. :C

Tempy is that socially akward hermit who likes disecting people. He lives away from everybody in the mountains in his little tree burrow. No matter how much the rest of the crew tries to interact with him... he just rejects it.
Back when Tempy still lived in the city and worked as a bagger at the local grocer, Rat took a notice to him. The local police wanted to watch him; they were suspicious of him for some odd reason. Rat spent almost a year watching him, all before Tempy just got up and left. Inausti is and amazing friend :D She's probably my closet peep out of the Clan, cause she's nice like that. She's ina band, it makes me jealous, she gets to tour all over and actually travel, things I haven't done much of... at all.
listen.to.my.melodies.

Cahvante... I've only met him once on one occassion, he doesn't seem like the happiest crayon in the box (shush I know that doesn't make a lot of sense...) but he's also in the band with Ina, so I guess I hear about him quite a bit, and maybe there's a good guy under that grouch... or not.

Honeydrips is an extremely interesting girl... o-o" That's all I have to say on that matter. Yes. Next section. Please.

Kittybrightside! Besides Ina, she's my best friend. I was all heroic and saved her keys after they had fallen into the sewers down an open man hole. I respect her greatly, she's extremely brave and tough despite her apperance, and she enjoys a good chocolate cake too C:
