Reselling: It's an art form. From the first contact with a seller to the push of the accept button for the trade, an intricate cycle is taking place. You can never master reselling, but you can become an expert. Its simple, yet hard. Its placid, yet deadly. One wrong buy, and years of work are gone. You don't need to learn how to buy, you need to learn how to spot a great deal. You need to know how to haggle, and how to get attention to what you're selling. You don't need much to start with, but the endings are endless. Now on to the guide! Money: To resell, naturally you need to buy. If you resell for a living, you don't need to be able to restock or snipe. (I have no clue how to do either of those well). This means you have to buy your items from other users. The starting capital should come from games and other sources like that. If you want to break into reselling immediately, 50k will do. If you can wait, 250k would be best. Money (or pure, as it will be called from now on out) is a resellers best friend. Pure is generally wanted by sellers. Pure is what you want to end up with. Pure. Is. Awesome. Items: You have pure, now you need to buy something. Buying will be explained later in this article. Items you want, at least during your early resells, are items that are easy to sell (ETS). ETS includes items such as: - Useful Battledome items - Nerkmids - Transmogrification Potions - Non-basic pet/color Morphing potions (I.e Blue Kougra MPs are harder to sell than Pirate Kougra or Yellow Draik MPs) - Some gourmet foods - Draik Eggs - Krawk Petpets and Plushies - Avatar Items (ZDAP, MSPP) - Rare Petpets (Meepits, Candychan, Meowclops) - Neggs that help in the Battledome. - Some Paint Brushes ETS usually goes for a good price. On the other hand, there are items that are hard, near impossible, to sell are refered to as hard to sell (HTS). HTS items include: - Hidden Tower items (Full price) - Wearables - Most Petpets - Useless stuff (Toys, Piles of Dung, etc) - Common items (Low end plot prizes, Event items, etc) HTS is more common than ETS, and though its harder to sell, you can make massive scores from it sometimes. Goal: To resell, you must have a goal. A reason you're doing this instead of talking to your friends, writing for the Neopian Times, or telling TNT how awesome they are. My personal goal is to get a better Battledome set. Yours could be a Paint Brush or a Morphing potion, something for your gallery, or cool looking wearables for your pet. A goal makes you want to haggle harder, buy that item at such a low price, and try your hardest to get it sold quickly with a large profit. Pure, Items, and a Goal. You have three of the four parts to being a good reseller. However, the fourth part is the most important, but also the trickiest: Skill. Skill: The skill of reselling isn't rare to have, but the skill to resell well is rare than a Draik egg. Reselling well means you make money. Not all the time, but 95% of the time. Even the best resellers can tell you about an item that they almost never sold *cough* BlueXweetokMorphingPotion *cough*. It doesn't matter how many millions you make, it matters if, when you get that one item that nearly ruins you, you get right back in and resell some more! The first step of actually reselling is buying. To buy means you have something to resell. The first step of buying is contact. Contact means going to the Trades/Auction, Battledome, or Avatar chat and finding someone selling something. See what they want for it, how much it usually goes for, and if they have an offer to beat (OTB). The second step of buying is haggling. Haggling is the art of offering things (Prices in pure, items, or the two) to get a deal to move into an agreement favorable to you. Haggling is dangerous. You can't offer too high or they'll accept it and you won't get much of a profit. You can't offer too low, or they will think you are a n00b. Offer what you want to pay. They offer what they think you'll pay. This may last thirty seconds if you know what they want and are willing to pay for it, to ten or fifteen minutes if you can't agree on anything. Here's a brief guide to haggling: Seller: I want 250k for this Nerkmid. Trading post is 265k! Reseller: I'll give you 190k for it. Seller: No way! I want at least 235k for it. Reseller: 215k Seller: Fine. I really want this gone. Reseller: Yay, 40k profit! Notice the reseller didn't say 50k profit. I'll explain that later. After you haggle it out, go and buy the item. The second step of reselling is (shockingly) selling. Selling consists of everything you do after you have the item. The first step of selling is advertising. Advertising means creating a board to basically say: "Hey, I have a Nerk(mid) for sell!" Spruce it up with smilies and CAPS LOCK. Make it sound nice too. You could also post it on other resellers' boards. Sometimes items just float around the reseller community for a while. Post the items name, rarity, going price on the trading post, price you're selling for, and if you will haggle on the price or not. This is called "format" Once your item is advertised, you may get an offer. Once you get and offer, haggling begins anew. Haggling is the second step of selling. Now you want the price as high as you can get. Another example: Reseller: I want 135k for this Voidberry Potion. Buyer: I am a reseller too. I'll give you 95k for that. Reseller: Nty, how about 125k. Tp is currently 150k. Buyer: Ok 125k. Reseller: Yay, I made pure! If they offer an item, it goes like this: Reseller: I want 135k for this Voidberry Potion. Buyer 1: I'll give you an item worth 125k for it. Reseller: Nty. Buyer 2: I'll give you an ETS item worth 165k for it. Reseller: Yep. Score! :D Note: If someone offers you an item for it, make sure its worth more than your item, and it is ETS. Once the haggling is over, sell the item through trades or auctions. Then, enjoy your pure. Afterwards, return to reselling. That's it for the guide, but there is a brief dictionary afterwards. This isn't in alphabetical order) Pure: Neopoints. ETS: Easy to sell HTS: Hard to sell Nty: No thank you. Shows lack of interest in offer. Haggle: Argue about price Firm: Not wanting to go any higher/lower about price. OTB: Offer to beat. Is there an offer on the item already? How much is it? Overpay: Buying something with an item. The item that's being bought is worth more than the item being sold. GLS/GLB: Good luck selling/Good luck buying. Just a nice thing to say if you can't reach an agreement. MP: Morphing Potion if said in the context of "Buying MPs." My price if said in the context "MP: 130k." TP: Transmogrification Potions if said like "Buying TPs." Trading Post Price if said like "TP: 250k" R.: Rarity
