..there was a tiny grove in a land far away. To reach it you had to sail the big ocean, ascend the mountains of everlasting snow and finally cross the White Desert. After hundreds of years without being disturbed by anyone's footsteps, a stranger from the other end of the world entered the expanse. He settled down on a blooming glade, next to a grand oak that was called Immemorial. Immemorial was one of the oldest trees in the glade and the stranger was impressed by the legends of his ancient charisma. Legend has it that this tree captured the soul of a magical spirit, so he made the decision to stay with the tree for several months, to seek out its true nature.
He sat there, happily talking to and taking care of this majestic tree. Weeks and months passed and it all came to an end on a starlit, mid-summer night. He was taken aback by a rush of energy as the spirits of the Nature Faeries came to bless Immemorial with their grand magic and soothing sound. Though, the stranger witnessed their rites and luminescent beauty while they were celebrating, he simply couldn't take his eyes off the splendor. During the ritual, Immemorial began to glow from its inmost soul and gave new spirit to the gorgeous faeries who were dancing around his bole.
In the next morning it was time to bid farewell, both Immemorial and the stranger - said goodbye with heavy hearts. As a present, and a sign of their friendship, Immemorial gave the stranger a piece of his soulful bark.
The stranger left and after months of trying to find his way home, he finally made it back to his family. On his way back, he had spent every night stargazing and thinking of his little daughter and how happy he would be to see her again. Out of Immemorial's bark he had carved a tiny little faerie and painted her chocolate brown and green like the oaks leaves. The Faerie was then used in the making of a jewel encrusted music box that was to be given to his beloved daughter. In the jewel case he had stored several other pretty presents but the figurine of the dancing faerie was the present his little girl loved the most. From the first night she saw it, she wanted her father to play the music and let the faerie dance before she fell asleep. Because the tiny faerie's eyes sparkled like stars the girl gave her the name Starlight.
The first time she heard the music Starlight awoke, as if she had fallen into a deep, dreamless sleep. She turned around and danced and danced as long as the pretty melody lasted.
Joy floated her when she saw the girl's happy face, watching her turn around and around over and over again and she loved her music box and being guard over all these pretty trinkets. As time went by the girl grew older and the night came when she stopped opening her jewel case before falling asleep and Starlight was left in darkness and silence. She felt alone but took comfort in the belief that her friend was probably only too tired to watch her dance this night and that next night everything would be back to normal again.
But the next night came and she heard the girl falling asleep without opening her music box again. Starlight was distraught about being left alone but she found an escape in her dreams. She was traveling the world, flying all over the place. She was discovering shiny treasures, being friends with queens and princesses, and finally being a princess herself. The feeling of being incomplete arose deep in her heart and she could not fight it. She did not know where it came from but a thorn of nostalgia was gouging deep into her. Not knowing how many nights she had spent dreaming, someone finally moved her jewel case and she was exciting for what would come next. After a long journey the case finally opened and she gazed into the darkness. She started realizing that her girl was too old to play with her now and would just end up throwing her away. The moment the thought reached her mind, someone grabbed the jewelry pieces out of her music box and she was left alone in the twilight with emotions sorrow and longing surrounding her.
It was the darkest time of her life and she started giving up herself, as she heard a gentle whisper.
Starlight tried to ask who Immemorial was and what the faerie meant with coming home but she was already gone. So she decided to act upon the faerie's advice and began to fly all over the world. She crossed oceans and rivers, visited the clouds and the stars. She talked to the moon and listened to the sun but wherever she went the thorn of nostalgia hurt her deep inside. So she finally crossed a great ocean to see the mountains of everlasting snow in hopes to freeze the thorn inside her. But the snow and cold could not help her and it even hurt her a bit more to see the icy mountains. So she decided that the White Desert might be able to help her, and with the heat of the sun, tried to burn the thorn inside her heart but it, like everything else, did not help.
The loneliness was overwhelming her. As she soared, she saw a grove materialize in front of her and made the decision that it was time for her to settle down. As she entered the grove her heart started beating fast and an unknown force pulled her towards Immemorial's glade. The first glimpse of Immemorial made her soul glow brightly, enlightening the wood's shades. The tree laughed low and jaded and Starlight felt where she belonged.
From the moment on that the stranger had taken her piece of bark out of the corpse and carved her out of the wood something inside her had known about where she belonged,
long before she knew it herself. Happily she sat down on one of the old trees branches and embraced her soul mate.
«Do not be afraid my love, I will never leave you again.» she whispered.
