Petpet Protection League History and Regulations

The Petpet Protection League (PPL) was founded on June 11, 2003 by an anonymous group of Neopets who really care about Petpets. These altruistic Petpet lovers give rewards to those people who look after their Petpet the longest. Each week a Petpet species is selected and the 200 Neopets who have cared for that Petpet the longest will be given 10 Neopoints for each day of ownership. The largest prize to date has been 27,500 NPs. These random lucky winners also get to enjoy a Trophy or Medal (see below). If all your Neopets happen to own the same chosen Petpet then you get the prize for each one!

The colour of the Petpet does matter. If the PPL selects a Pink Kadoatie one week, and you have a blue one, sorry no prize. Furthermore, a Petpet can only be chosen once, so says the PPL, but even they have erred. Both Blibble and Gulper have been selected twice, but we have assurances from PPL officials that this mistake will not be repeated a third time. With over 2300 Petpet colour variations the PPL will have plenty to choose from in weeks and years to come.

The PPL most strongly disapproves of the Petpet Lab Ray and any Petpet that has been "zapped" by the Ray will be disqualified from selection. Just the very thought of "zapping" makes PPL officials shudder in horror. What follows are interesting facts from the history of the PPL award.

• Oldest Petpet Winner - Cubett with 2744 days (7.5 years!)

• Youngest Petpet Winner - Tied, both only 3 hours old

• Least # of awards per Petpet - Pink Garooda with only 1 awarded

• Petpet with the most wins - Tied with Slorg and Ona with 3 wins each

Some may argue that after having received the award the value of Petpet should decrease. Possibly so since that Petpet will no longer be eligible for NP or prizes. But the stipend rewarded is very little when compared to the value of the Petpet, so I do not believe this fortuitous event should have any bearing on the price of any Petpet.

If you desperately want to win the PPL's accolade I suggest the following:

• Obviously avoid those Petpets that have already won the PPL.

• Avoid older Petpets that have lived in Neopia for years. You are not likely to be in the top 200 long-term owners by adopting one of these Petpets now.

• New Petpets just released into Neopia are your best value. Hold on to them and have patience. The average winning age is 2.5 years. In this category Maraqua, Altador, Geraptiku and Shenkuu have many eligible Petpets. See the Petpet Pictionary for approximate birthdays.

• Painted Petpets are also a good bet. You are more likely to be in the top 200 with a painted Petpet because of a smaller populous. Also Painted Petpets receive the PPL at a younger average age of 711 days (1.9 years). However, to date, only 23% of awards have gone to painted Petpets and with over 2300 choices, you may have a very long wait.

• Also Painted Petpets have fewer trophies awarded with each win. 55% of winning Painted Petpets had less than 200 awards given, therefore indicating a limited population, vs. only 22% of non-painted petpets having less than 200 awards given out.

• But whomever you chose, Love your Petpets and treat them well.
