My book reviews!10/19/11
People who get this kind of result are called…Divergent…Under no circumstances should you share this information with anyone.
In this face paced novel about one girl's journey through independence and finding her place, you will find your self up all night with this book. The book Divergent is a story that takes place in a Dystopian Chicago, where the people who now live there are all separated into factions (groups with a common virtue). Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice the main character lives in the orderly world of the Abnegation with her mother, father, and brother. Each year there is something called a "Choosing ceremony" where once you turn 16 you go and choose the faction you wish to be in forever. The obvious choice for Beatrice' brother Caleb is Abnegation because he is very selfless like his parent's. But, the task Beatrice faces is finding where she belongs. She seems to be selfless enough, but she also is quite smart. Bravery is on her side as well, which only calls for one answer to her faction. Divergent. Divergence is when you don't quite belong in one single place.
This novel moves so quickly especially for being 487 pages long. I wish it lasted longer but I am excited to read the next book coming out in May of next year. With that being said, it is quite hard to tell you about this book without giving away once single thing. But, I MUST! SPOILER ALERT- Beatrice falls in love with a boy from Dauntless! There, I said it! But, honestly there is so much more to tell you about it is hard keeping it all in!
Anyways, I hope you take the time to read this book. Though slight warning, you won't be able to take your eyes off of it!
This book is Beast!
Beauty and the Beast has been my favorite movie ever since I first saw it as a little girl. I feel like I can relate to Belle and I admire her for that, for her realness. Not just cause I look like her, But because she was smart, LOVED books (hint: I LOVE books), and had a love for a persons personality rather than looks.
Well when I found the book Beastly on my libraries "New Reads" shelf I did not know what to excpect. As much as I love the author and the book I must say I was very confused as to what the book was about at first. After reading the back of the book and the first page I had come to the conclusion it was about a boy turned into a beast. I checked it out like I would any other book (not very excited like), when really when I got home and started reading it I NEVER put it down.
This wonderfully written modern version of Beauty and the Beast was love at first site to me. The book was at a good speed of events, it was a good size, and each character was thought out well. Though I must say I wish the author went into greater detail about Linda's fathers feelings about her. Anyways back to the story...
The story is set in modern-day New York city. Kyle Kingsbury (The soon-to-be Beast) has everything; wealth, looks, popularity, and the hot girlfriend. He thinks nothing of life, He thinks he's God's gift, and he thinks rich people were made to get it better. Long story short he ticks off a once ugly now beautiful witch (Kendra) and she curses him to be a Beast. He now only has two years to find someone to love him for himself not his looks. To show their love they must give him a true kiss. If he does not find someone to kiss him he will be a Beast forever. The one to break the curse is Linda Owens (Beauty). Daughter of a drug addict, living in a shack like home, and reading books daily. Linda's father is caught by Kyle with drugs. Kyle then threatens to not give him his drugs back. But then the father offers his daughter to him for the drugs. The Beast then recognizes the man as Linda's (she is a fellow class mate of his) father and takes the deal. If you have seen Beauty and the Beast then it is obvious how it ends.
It was quite a beautiful story and I am excited to see the movie coming March 4th. I hope you take the time to read the book or ad least watch the movie. This is something you don't want to miss.
Tangled: Today movie, Tomorrow book?
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening to ya. I decided to write another post today because I was thinking (something I don't like doing cause then my brain hurts) I loved the movie Disney just came out with Tangled. So why not look for a book like that? Other than the picture book inspired by the movie Disney is now selling, I was thinking what if there were some other books sort of telling their own story of what might have happened to Rapunzel.
Recently I read a book called Beastly that had the same sort of thing. It was a diffrent way of telling the story Beauty and the Beast. I will be reviewing the book this month and the movie of it coming out in March (Yes I do books turned into movie reviews too).
The point is aspiring writers, why not try and re-create the Rapunzel story? For me?
Hello my lovely readers (If I have any). I would LOVE to welcome you to my Ah-May-ZING blog called Sleeping with books.
I should start off telling you about how I got the idea for the name.
Well I am a night owl and you will find me reading from 9pm-4am NON-STOP when I have a really good book. Now I have read some books that actually put me to sleep (you can read about those below) But that is beside the point. Anyways one night I had been reading for 9 hours straight and the clock had just sruck 5:00 am. As good as the book was I could barely keep my eyes open. All I remember was I turned off my light and then I woke up the next morning with my book on pillow next to me. Hence the name "Sleeping with books" ;)
Now I suppose you want to know more about me? Well I live in the Not-so-sunny state of Colorado, in Winter it can get below 0 bu in summer we might get 80-100 degree weather (weird). I have 8 besties and they are chock full of awesomeness!!!!! I am an avid writer and reader. And I participate in Color Guard. If you don't know what that is then you are not as awesome as those who do. I started this site to inform those who love books which books to sleep with, and which ones to avoid so they don't fall asleep.
That's pretty much it, I hope you come back again. I should be posting every week or so. I am going on Vacation in Febuary though so might be difficult to post again.
Books that put me to sleep1/20/11
Jacob, Edward, and Bella, OH MY!
The Twilight Saga despite it's overwhelming amounts of great reviews, I found overwhelmingly slow moving. When I first entered the library to pick up the supposedly good book Twilight I was excited thinking it was as good as everyone had told me it was. I was "dead" wrong. By chapter three I had been already bored to death due to the fact the author never really kept the story going. It seemed to me she was focusing on one character too much at one time.
I feel half the readers of The Twilight Saga are more followers than true believers in the story. Sure the one half believes the story to be actually good but the other half must just need to be accepted by they're peers that much more to resort in reading a poorly written book.
Sorry to any true "Twi-Hearts" that feel offended by my review but it's my opinion, NOT YOURS!
In closing I am glad to say I was already in bed when I started to read it because The Twilight Saga had put me to sleep.
The story of my demented life10/19/11
Why I can't believe it! You are actually taking the time to read this thing!? Well in some ways that is understandable since I am a pretty awesome person, but in others it is not. Anyways, this blog was created just so you can know what is in my mind 24/7. Good or bad thing? You decide. Honestly my brain is probably mush because of endless night watching "Wizards of Waverly Place" reruns. But, that's beside the point. If you are reading this post you are probably wanting to know more about me. Though I find that a little creepy, I will go ahead and post my top 10 favorite things in the whole word as sort of an introduction! Here goes...
1.Jesus...I love The Lord very much!
2.Friends & Family! Where would I be without you guys?
3.Love...according to the Beatles it is all you need ;)
4.Writing, I pretty much breathe writing!
5.Music! It's what inspires me and makes the world go 'round (not scientifically! haha)
6.Skillet!!! The most rockenest band in the world!
7.My ipod, I go nowhere without it!
8.Books, because I pretty much have one on me every second of the day.
9.Notebooks! I squeal when I get a new one...I know it's a problem :P
10.Demi & Selena! They are both amazing singers/actors, AND the best of friends! :)
So that pretty much sums up my life. Well not totally, because I believe the word Demented is really what truly sums it up :)
Peace out and God bless
