I WAS NOT REQUIRED/REQUESTED/COERCED TO MAKE A PETPAGE APPLICATION.Hello, hello!
My name is my business, but you can call me Townhouse or TOWEN. I'm here to apply for your dear dear draik. Should I be granted ownership I would request a gender change, so please don't be insulted or confused that I refer to Riveza using masculine pronouns. I'm a tad wordy, so if you find yourself tired of reading about something you can use the diamonds to the left to navigate between the points of this application. Introductions, disclaimers and directions past, let us begin!About Townhouse
Having already given you my monicker, I find it somewhat difficult to open this section. I'll offer some interests: I enjoy drawing
in all of its forms, photography
(I'm fairly proud of the image you see here), coding
despite my pickiness, and writing
fantastical fictions. My favorite font is century gothic
and my favorite place on Neopets is That Kills Me
, two facts which can be fairly easily inferred by a quick glance at a few of my pages. I spend quite a lot of time on this site, though I have fairly limited internet access right now--I can only get on a few times a week for a couple of hours at a time. (I'll be back online by September, if you're worried by this.) My proudest accomplishments thus far are my pets' pages and my alliterative gallery. I have an about me page
with a bit more information and a comprehensive list of my permanent pets, but for the sake of convenience I'll list them again here along with my accounts.
Dragi55 is my main, dragi555 is my oldest account, krystasmith is not my actual name, ithrowrocks houses a slightly less interesting gallery than those on krystasmith and dragi55, and usonone is my lab account. The about me page linked above explains where I got each of my pets, if you're curious. It also has brief explanations of the characters, and if you read them you may find that I have far too many immortal or long-lived pets. The idea and consequences of somebody living longer than they ever wanted to fascinate me. I'm digressing. I'd love to tell you how long I've had each of the pets, but I honestly don't remember most of their ages. I can tell you the order they were created/adopted in, though: Rquell, Baran, Vinny, Kkhity, Stephen (initially created), Madlyst, Crimidine, Tsupasya, Saphira, Jury, Stephen (re-adopted), Alfred, Sofie, Lunaat, Shaste. There may be some minor inaccuracies in there (Crimidine, for example, was created in that general vicinity
, but may actually be younger than Passi), but that's the general idea.
I believe they're all painted correctly except Madlyst and Kkhity - I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with Madlyst, but I'm too emotionally attached to her name to let her go, and Kkhity's brush is one of my newest goals. In addition, Rquell should be darigan when darigan ogrin are released (unless I hate them), and I've been considering painting Alfred with the faerie paint brush I can just afford from the Faerie's Ruin shop.
I also have a number of nonpermanent pets, most of whom are relics from when I first found out that hissi existed and made it my goal to have a lot of them. I was unfortunately unable to make a personality or character stick to any of them except Stephen. I've considered and briefly attempted trading Pheium, but I may keep him for the sake of customization - the others should eventually go up for adoption.
If you clicked on any of the pets' names you may have noticed that their lookups and pages have a variety of images in a variety of qualities, some of which are unlinked. The unlinked ones are mine. The lack of uniformity can be attributed both to my rather inconsistent style (you can see this on my art page
) and to the fact that some of the images are three or four years old (you can also see this on my art page). I have been accused of thievery before and I don't very much appreciate it.Why Riveza
Species and color to some extent, but the name especially.
The character I have in mind for Riveza has been floating about in my head for a while, though he never underwent quite this much development. I'd considered saving up for a draik egg or MP and creating him, but Neopets is fairly overpopulated already and I'm bad at coming up with names, so my poor draikthing continued to sit in the back of my head and gather dust. He'd gathered quite a bit of dust by the time I found Riveza--I was boredly browsing Neopound (I mostly visit to look for unconverted faerie ruki, because . . . well, unconverted faerie ruki. Sigh) when lo and behold! A Riveza! Lovely name, right species, good color, gender change available--ah, the dear was perfect. Aaand the deadline was mere days away. Well. Neomail app, then. (It obviously didn't work out that way.)Plans for Riveza
If I'm granted ownership of Riveza he'll go right to my main account and probably displace Lunaat as my go-to active (Boochi doesn't scare me particularly.) Like many of my more interesting pets he will be not-infrequently entered in the beauty contest, though he probably won't win quite as often as he deserves to because there are a lot of good draik artists and my advertising ability is fair at best. He'll have a lookup and petpage (shaping up to be one of my favorites) to match his personality and character, which you can read about in the next section, and will most likely be written about and roleplayed even more than most of my other neopets because by Jove he is fun to write
I got a tad distracted over here
Meanwhile in the realm of things which are not free, he will be fed (read: shoved through the neolodge) and subjected to that favorite hobby of mine, customization. Draiks have great species-specific wearables. They look good in nonspecific wearables. Shadow's a great base color to work with. It'll be great. It'll be even better if I can get my mitts on some more neocash sometime before the apocalypse.
I'd love to be able to say I'll play with him, too, but I probably won't. What I will do is put him on the merry-go-round as frequently as is necessary to keep him delighted and fix him when he is sick. This will have basically the same effect on his happiness.
Last but certainly not least comes the issue of color. Color, you ask? Do I not intend to keep him shadowy? Well, no, not really. Shadow is a great color for the character and he'll probably stay shadow for quite some time because the color I have in mind is expensive, but the ultimate goal is wraith. Wraith is the color that sparked the design, wraith is my favorite paint brush color, wraith draiks don't really have eyes (that . . .that will make sense in the next section), and, for entirely different reasons than shadow, wraith is a great base color for customization. Wraith is good. His petpet will also be repainted--black, I should say, to match him and to look nice even apart from him, though faerie blugars do rather amuse me.The Character
As I mentioned before, the character intended for Riveza is fairly old--a form of it is, anyway. Nearly as old as the release of wraith draiks, in fact. The general thought behind it washm yes there are these whispy wraiths and the ghosty shouty wraiths of old, but what about the pale bony wraiths of medium-old. What about them.
As you can see, the thought didn't make a lot of sense. That didn't stop it from evolving. When I found Riveza the character was basically an appearance and a vague personality, but he's fleshed out nicely now that I have something to flesh him out into.
Let's start with an image - one of him actually looking like a draik, since sometimes he seems to look more like a weird lizard thing:
Feel free to click and drag that to your address bar if you want. It does look a bit better in full size, though it is, admittedly, not the highest quality picture I've ever produced. Of course, the highest quality picture I've ever produced probably didn't involve that many straight lines, so I think I did pretty well. I'm digressing. In order to avoid misrepresenting Riveza's personality, I feel like I should provide a picture of him not crawling around on all fours and doing weird magic stuff. Here:
Now, on to the actual meat of the section. If you'd prefer a less concise but more enjoyable explanation of his existence, check out the bottommost diamond on the bar to the left. That page started out as a couple of writing samples, but has through some combination of boredom and excitement become what it is now. Please understand that, extensive as it may be, the page is still a rough draft and should (and shall) undergo quite a bit of editing if I'm granted ownership of Riveza. Mainly for pacing and removal of pointless or inaccurate information, though I think the backstory needs a lot more editing for a lot more reasons. In the end, the gist should be something along these lines:Riveza plays host to an ancient power of entropy called Vuide. The power exists well outside any readily accessible plane of existence, but can gain brief and partial admittance to the world through certain paths and gateways, most of which lay long buried. When Vuide finds (or, in most cases, is found by) somebody who can act as its vessel it leaves that individual with two options: to accept the power and the duty of causing chaos to the world, or to be consumed. Should they choose the former they are granted certain faculties: basic agelessness, the ability to pick apart and bend the fabric of reality (something I've touched on before), and a difficult to control sort of magic that lends itself best to disorder. Along with this comes a slow change in appearance that ultimately turns the power's host into an unsophisticated, skeletal shell of themself. They generally end up losing "unnecessary" things like eyes, ears and tongue, and extra limbs like wings tend to devolve into a simpler form. This doesn't necessarily reflect on the host's mental status. Vuide's vessels have been known to go insane, become nearly vegetative, obsess over doing good works to outweigh their bad ones--it all depends on the individual.
Riveza, specifically, has chosen to do absolutely none of those things and remains mentally the same as he was when he first had the title Begetter of Chaos thrust upon him. That is to say, he remains the deadpan, sarcastic, and only slightly asocial individual that had the audacity to negotiate with Vuide when a dying Begetter handed the power's gateway off to him. He and he alone is allowed to create chaos on a work week schedule, getting some nights and most weekends and off, along with major holidays. On the clock he creates rips and folds in space, hinders heroes, and tears down cities. Off the clock he has coffee with 'coworkers,' collects perturbing ceramic figurines, and talks to his cat. It's a fairly annoying job to have, but the lifestyle suits him better than the four-pet-family status quo.
It's not coincidence or laziness that Riveza shares an ability with Shaste, by the way. I've wanted to expand upon the sources of the folds and tears in space that so interest my xweetok for a while, and Vuide and his ilk are among them. That said, Riveza is in no way meant to be a counterpart or supplement to Shaste. He was developed entirely separately from the older character. They obviously have every reason to interact (and they will; I'd very much like to write the story of their meeting), but the similarities are those of two characters who share a world, not two characters who hinge upon each other. Riveza's petpage completed should show some other individuals who share their reality--heroic types, especially, since they tend to trouble the draik. They seem to think it's their job to stop him or something. In Closing
I may sometimes fancy myself eloquent, but I'm not always great at communicating and my rabbit trail trains of thought tend to make it difficult to format essays and applications. Please feel free to neomail me at dragi55
if you require any clarification or have any questions whatsoever. Thank you for reading, considering, and putting up with me, and I hope you find what you're looking for in one of your applicants.
