The Altador Cup

Q: What is the Altador Cup?
A: The Altador Cup is a battle between 16 different teams in which they are tested for their skill, their speed, and their teamwork. It is a fight for honor against teams from all over Neopia, and you can decide which one you stand by. It's currently in its second run.

The Altador Cup Committee is in charge of this competition. They are a highly respected group of officials who carefully examine each play, making sure that the rules of Yooyuball are strictly adhered to. Read more about them!

One of the most celebrated participants in the Altador Cup actually has the unlikely role of serving as the ball. Yooyus, the Petpets that are an essential part of the game Yooyuball, are greatly honoured and valued in Altador. Only the most healthy and physically fit Yooyus are chosen for participation in tournament matches, which is why many train their entire lives for a chance to play the renowned game.

To learn more about the game Yooyuball and Yooyus, please scroll down!

This year, two games called Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise will also enable you to help your team make some points. Just be aware that they will not have as much of an affect as Yooyuball!

FAQs

Q: Where is the Altador Cup?
A:Click here!

Q: How do you play?
A: First, you have to join one of the 16 teams. Then, you basically use your team players and try to score a goal with one of 7 different Yooyuballs. You can also try out the two other games: Make Some Noise and Slushie Slinger. Scroll down for a basic guide.

Q: When does the Second Altador Cup start?
A: June 5th, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. NST!

Q: What does it mean when the tournament play is double round robin?
A: This means that your team will play every other team twice. After all of the matches, the top two teams will advance to the finals. The teams that score third and fourth will battle for third place.

Q: Do you have to play Yooyuball to help your team?
A: No! This year, two games called Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise will also enable you to help your team make some points. Just be aware that they will not have as much of an affect as Yooyuball!

Q: What teams are there?
A: Click here. You can click on their logos and find out more about the team!

Q: Where is the quiz for finding out which team suits you?
A: It is on the sign-up page. (Click here to go to it!)
NOTE: Once you pick a team, you can't take the quiz.

Q: Oh no, I clicked on the wrong team! How do I switch from a team to another?
A: Unlike last year, you cannot switch teams this year. Please be serious about picking one!

Q: If more people are on one team, do they have a better chance of winning?
A: Please remember that having more team members doesn't necessarily mean that you have a better chance. What's more important is how they play.

Q: Should I still submit my score even though I lost?
A: Yes! Every score counts for your team, even if you didn't do as well as you hoped to. Plus, your submitted scores add to your participation and will cause you to earn some points that you can later trade in for prizes!

Q: Why hasn't my score been updated yet? It's wrong!
A: TNT updates all scores daily, so check your achievements the next day.

Q: What are the little starfish things used for the ball?
A: They are Yooyus, and they're the petpets used when playing Yooyuball.

Q: What is Yooyuball?
A: Yooyuball is the game played in the Altador Cup challenge.

Q: Can I buy a Yooyu? Are they real petpets?
A: Yes, they are!

Q: In the game, are you playing against the computer or a real person from another team?
A: Everything you play is against the computer.

Q: The game won't open/work/isn't loading!
A: Close the window and try to open it again. If it isn't working still, there's probably something your browser isn't letting through. Check to see if your computer is currently blocking pop-ups. (Also, check to see if your flash is updated!)

Q: OMG, my player just ran off the court! (Yes, this can actually happen.)
A:
Click Shift to get him back. If that fails to work, you either have to wait for a goal or his return!

Q: I had points from the first Altador Cup, but now they're gone! Will they come back?
A: Sorry, but right now this question remains unanswered. Many hope that once this Altador Cup is over, their leftover points will return.

Q: Does everyone get prizes?
A: Yes! Based on how much you participate, everyone gets 'points' that they can later exchange for items. The winning and runner-up team also get special trophies for their look-ups. And, if it is still continuing from last year, the devoted team members from the top two teams all get special prizes.

Normal
The most common form, this Yooyu behaves as you might expect, without any surprises.

Mutant
This Yooyu is extremely unpredictable, moving in a variety of patterns reminiscent of the Fire, Snow, and Faerie Yooyus.

Snow
This kind of Yooyu makes for a very slow ball, and its piercing cold slows the muscles of those playing with it.

Darigan
This misbehaving Yooyu flies off at unexpected angles. Be very careful with it when you are in front of your own goal.

Fire
Given the excessive heat and flames it puts out, this Yooyu must be transferred very quickly between teammates, which is what this fastest of the Yooyus would prefer, anyway.

Faerie
This Yooyu floats high and bends through the air, leaving players to wonder when it will drop down low enough for them to capture and pass it.

Clockwork
A wind-up robotic Yooyu toy that will explode within seconds if it isn't immediately put into a goal.

Yooyuball

Tips
- A whole game is timed to 3 minutes.
- There are no breaks or 'pauses' in this game. It is straight-forward until A) someone scores or B) you run out of time.
- When someone scores, a new yooyu will most likely appear.
- Don't aim for the center of the goal when trying to score, because the goalie (or another teammate) may steal it.
- Scoring a goal costs you 8 seconds.
- If a goalie holds onto a Yooyu for more than 5 seconds, it will release itself from their grip.

Keys & Controls
- Take the ball away: bump into the opponent.
- To pass the yooyu: left click with your mouse.
- To select a player: click them with your cursor.
- Switch players: 'Tab'.
- Unselect a player: 'S' or spacebar.
- Move nearest player: click anywhere on the game and they will move there.
- Move inactive players back to original spot: 'Shift'.
- Skip yooyu introduction: spacebar (it saves 8 seconds).

Slushie Slinger

Description
Business is booming at the Slushie Concession Stand, and the Tuskaninny waitress needs your assistance to keep her customers happy! Help serve these impatient fans their slushies so they can get back to the Yooyuball action!

What do you do?
You have to serve slushies to the customers by using your arrow keys on your keyboard to move up and down. First, a customer appears with a circle above his/her head. Inside this circle is a colored slushie. Now, you have to move to the certain slushie dispenser and press your spacebar in front of it. After, you move to the aisle of the customer and press the spacebar to pass it over to them.

Tips
- You only get 5 chances, and the customers start to come faster and faster!- While retrieving an empty cup, you must be facing the counter or it will fall.
- If two cups are both sliding across the table to you at the same time, don't panic! Each counter is longer than the other, the shortest being on top and the longest being on the bottom.
- Don't worry about standing around, waiting for an empty cup to reach you. You can sling faster than you can recieve.
- If you accidentally let a cup slip at the beginning of the game and you know you could have done better, start over. You need that extra life.

Make Some Noise

Description
The Techo super-fan is at it again – cheering as hard as he can for his favourite team and generally being very loud. Help Neopia's most famous Yooyuball enthusiast give the sound meter a workout by tapping the two keys specified at the beginning of the game as fast as you can.

What do you do?
This game is easy, fun, and can cause you to get a cramp in your hand or arm if you try to hard. You are given two letters on your keyboard, and all you have to do is repeatedly click/tap them as fast as you can for 30 seconds. There are 5 ranges (as shown above) on a bar, and your goal is to keep the arrow on the darkest zone.

Tips
- You can click both letters at the same time, as long as you are clicking both. This will boost up your points!
- Your score will go down if you stop clicking the keys!
- On the top of the game screen, different letters will randomly pop up. If you press these, it boosts your score even more.

Ranks

There are 20 total ranks you can get. To view your rank, go to the Altador Cup homepage and look at the bottom right hand corner of the screen (or go to this page)! Also, please remember, TNT updates all scores daily.
