Story
I was made in a plushie factory in Faerieland. Almost every plushie you'd find in a store came from there. After the plushies are made, they're packed in a box and shipped off to Plushie Palace, Darigan Toys, and any other place that sells plushies.
That would have happened to me, if it weren't for the fact that I was "special".
I looked very different from all the other kacheek plushies in the factory. Probably a mistake someone made when I was put together. After a plushie is made, it gets sent to the...*shudder*...the Quality Control Department.
That section of the factory inspects plushies to make sure they turn out right. If even the slightest detail is incorrect, whether it's faded color or an extra limb, that plushie is classified as a "reject", and gets thrown away.
Unfortunately, I was one of them. Somebody stuck a "REJECT" sticker on my forehead and tossed me into the nearest trashcan.
I looked around and saw other strange plushies like myself. There was a cybunny that had color leaked all over it. There was also a grundo that was the wrong shade of red. There was even a meepit that smelled like dung! No matter how strange and different they were, they all had one thing in common: they all had a "REJECT" sticker.
**********
Several hours later, I saw someone open the trashcan. At first I thought someone was throwing away another plushie, but then I saw a hand reach in and grab me. It was a female brown kacheek. She didn't have any stitches, so she was obviously not a plushie. I looked at her nametag, which said "Colleen".
What a relief. She sighed. You're still in one piece. If I had any more room at my home I'd take home all those rejected plushies. Colleen then tucked me into her purse. Before she did, she said You know, you remind me of somebody.
When she took me out later, we were no longer in the factory. We were in her Neohome. It wasn't too fancy, but it did look rather nice. I also noticed that on some of the
shelves there were some plushies similar to the ones I saw in the trashcan, except they didn't have a "REJECT" sticker. I also noticed some old photos featuring her and a younger kacheek.
This is where I live. Colleen said sweetly. It's been rather quiet around here lately even since...oh! I almost forgot to remove your sticker! Then she grabbed the corner of my "REJECT" sticker and slowly pulled it off. Colleen then placed me on top of a shelf between an old shoyru plushie and another picture frame. She then kissed me on my forehead -in the same spot where the sticker used to be- and said Goodnight...Peri.
Don't go away! I shouted in my head. There's so much I want to ask you! I sighed quietly and leaned on the plushie next to me.
**********
A couple hours passed by. I was halfway between being awake and falling asleep. Then I noticed the picture frame next to me. I looked at it. In the picture was Colleen and a kacheek. Upon closer examination, I noticed that the kacheek looked a lot like me. What does this mean? I thought to myself. I look like this kacheek.
I then leaped off of my shelf and wandered down the hallway. More pictures of that kacheek were hanging on the wall. I then climbed up the stairway and found Colleen's bedroom. She was fast asleep. I then climbed into her bed and fell asleep for the first time.
**********
When Colleen woke up the next morning, she was rather suprised to she me lying next to her. Now, how did you get in here? She muttered. I thought I set you on the shelf.
I came in here. I told her.
Oh, you came in here...Wait! You can talk?!
Yeah. And I can move too. See? I then turned around and wagged my tail.
...How? Colleen asked.
I'm not sure. I guess I've been able to do that ever since I was made. By the way, I have a couple things I want to ask you.
Ask me anything, Peri.
You know those pictures hanging on the wall? Who is the kacheek in those pictures?
Oh, him. That was my son, Perry. It's like your name, only spelled differently.
Is he still around? If not, what happened to him?
Sadly, Perry isn't around anymore. Last month, he became very ill and, eventually, died. It's been rather quiet around here since then. I miss the sound of him running through the hallway.
Then one day, while I was at work, I found you in that trash bin. You looked a lot like my boy, so I just had to take you home with me.
Good thing you did. I hated it in there!
**********
Life with Colleen was pretty great. She absolutely loved me, and I loved her. She didn't want to take me to work with her, since she didn't want me to be accidentaly thrown away. Sometimes she would bring home more misfit plushies. I soon learned that "saving" rejected plushies was a personal hobby of hers.
Plus she would also bring home books for me to read. She told me that Perry enjoyed reading. I enjoy it, too. I learned so much from the books she bought me.
But sadly, all good things come to an end.
**********
One day, I woke up to find that Colleen had fallen down the stairs. She must have hit herself pretty hard, because she hardly moved.
Colleen! I wailed. Are you okay?!
Peri... She said weakly. Get...get the phone...call 9-1-1. I then did what she said. When the paramedics arrived, I hid under the table. At that time I didn't trust anyone besides Colleen. I watched with a heavy heart as she was loaded onto a stretcher and taken away. I'll always treasure the very last words she spoke to me:
Bye Peri...Take care of the house...while I'm gone.
I waited for Colleen to come back. Hours passed, then days, then weeks, then a whole month had passed. By then, I had learned the truth. I didn't want to believe it, but Colleen was never coming back.
Remembering Colleen's dying wish, I did my best to take care of the house, but in the end it got repossessed.
**********
After that, I sort of wandered around Faerieland. I had taken with me some of Colleen's things. A couple plushies, her pillow, and some of her old photos. Little things to remember her by.
During my wandering, I had found the Faerieland Library. I had become my santuary for many months. I loved it there. They had more books than I could possibly read! I learned so much while I was there. (Did you know that a cockroach can survive for two weeks without it's head?)
But eventually, I longed for something. And that was to have someone to take care of me, like Colleen. And I knew exactly how to find that someone.
**********
At first I thought it was a stupid idea, but then I decided to head back to the Plushie Factory. Since I was made there, I naturally knew where it was.
With great stealth, I sneaked into the Shipping Room, where the plushies are packed into crates and shipped to stores around Neopia. When nobody was looking, I climbed inside a crate. I watched as the last of the plushies were put inside and the crate was nailed shut.
**********
The next day, the crate was opened. But I wasn't in a shop. It was the Money Tree.
I had read about it at the library. It's where Neopians donate gifts and neopoints so that others who are far more deprived can get a little help. Who knew that the Plushie Factory could be so generous?
I sat under the tree for a couple hours, then a human girl walked by and picked me up. And, you guessed it, that human was my loving owner, Sarah.
The End
Family & Friends
Jula
Jula is Sarah's first (and second oldest) neopet. Don't let her pretty looks fool you. She's rather tough and she beat the Pant Devil twice! She also likes to go exploring.
Denis
Denis...what can I say about him? Unlike most kyriis, who make a fuss when their fur gets messy, Denis doesn't mind getting dirty. In fact, he likes it. As a result, getting him to take a bath can be quite a challenge.
Deny
Deny came from an island called Shoyru Island, which is off the coast of Mystery Island. He was part of a clan of wingless Shoyrus and he was the only member with wings. Interesting, huh?

♫"Speed of Sound" lyrics♫
How long before I get in?
Before it starts, before I begin?
How long before you decide?
Before I know what it feels like?
Where To, where do I go?
If you never try, then you'll never know.
How long do I have to climb,
Up on the side of this mountain of mine?
Look up, I look up at night,
Planets are moving at the speed of light.
Climb up, up in the trees,
every chance that you get,
is a chance you seize.
How long am I gonna stand,
with my head stuck under the sand?
I'll start before I can stop,
before I see things the right way up.
All that noise, and all that sound,
All those places I got found.
And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand?
Ideas that you'll never find,
All the inventors could never design.
The buildings that you put up,
Japan and China all lit up.
The sign that I couldn't read,
or a light that I couldn't see,
some things you have to believe,
but others are puzzles, puzzling me.
All that noise, and all that sound,
All those places I got found.
And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand,
ah when you see it then you'll understand?
All those signs, I knew what they meant.
Some things you can invent.
Some get made, and some get sent,
Ooh?
Birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand,
ah, when you see it then you'll understand?
