Battle Basics

Intro

The time I spend on Battle Dome chat I see many questions on basic battling, while different players will have different approaches to battling I will attempt to give you some information on the basics, please note that I don't participate in 2 player battles so this information is mainly for 1 player battlers though some people that wish to participate in 2 player fights may find some content to be of value.

The Basic Battle Set

We all have to start somewhere, while having really expensive weapons is nice it's not very practical especially if you are fairly new to the game. I like to try and battle as cost effectively as possible so will attempt to provide a battle set that is as cheap as possible for effectiveness.

Most sets will contain some of the following:

  • Attacking weapons, these can be multiple use, single use, once per battle.
  • Defense weapons, these can be multiple use, single use, once per battle.
  • Freezing weapons, these can be multiple use, single use, once per battle, 100% or fractional %
  • Healing weapons, these can be multiple use, single use, once per battle, 100% or fractional %

Following is an effective but cheap starting set.

Attack

Defence

These are your Multiple use attack weapons, added advantage is they also have defense. Buy 2 of these you won't get better for the price, they not only attack for 6 icons but also will defend 6 icons.

Snowglobe Staff: Click Here To Buy Now

Attack

Either freezes, attacks, gives yellow snowball

Defence
about 20% freeze

This is your freezing item, only 1 freezing item can be equipped, Snowglobe Staff has about 20% chance to freeze, this percentage is about the same as a Black Frost Cannon which can cost you a lot more. Breaks for the battle once it freezes.

Greater Healing Scroll: Click Here To Buy Now

Defence
50hp

This is your healing item, only one healing item can be equipped, GHS will heal your pet 50 hp. There have been reports that this breaks, but if it does break the % is very small, most battlers say this rumour is not true.

Defence
50% 50% 50% 50% 50% 50% 50%

Downsize! is like a mini Thyora's Tear, it will block 50% of all damage once per battle, only 1 can be equipped.

Leaf Shield: Click Here To Buy Now

Defence

Leaf shield is a good blocker that is cheap, it will block more than most other shields.

Sticky Snowball: Click Here To Buy Now
Attack
These are good bombs, keep 2 equipped, be careful though they are single use, so could get costly in the long run, try to save for a Honey Potion to replace one of with these with.

Purple Sticky Hand: Click Here To Buy Now
Can steal opponent's weapon. about 50% chance. This is a stealing item it will steal 1 item from your opponent. Replace one of the scarab rings with the sticky hand when you know that you can gain a good item from your opponent, only 1 of these can be equipped.

Battling Basics

I will now attempt to go over some key concepts in battling, we'll cover Faerie Abilities, Boosts and a guide to battling round for round.

Faerie Abilities

These can be one of the most important factors in helping you win a battle, some will heal some will block damage done by different icons, others create items, some even freeze your opponent. I will make suggestions on abilities that I have found most useful, maybe you can even see an ability that maybe useful that I don't mention, remember this is just a guide and in no way set in stone.

Faerie abilities go according to your pets level so your pet will have to be at least that level to gain that ability e.g. your pet must be at least level 30 to get Dark Faerie Ability Sink. Sink & Burrow are probably 2 of the most important to get as a new battler, here are the abilities that are most useful that different faeries will give:

Boosts

What are boosts? Boosts are how we work out how much damage you will do or block, at specific stat levels your multiplier for damage & blocking will change below is a table of these stat levels.

Stance Multipliers

Stance multipliers will change the amount of damage done, examples of these are Fierce Attack, Jump Attack etc. N.B. Stance multiplier will only work as long as your pet has Power left otherwise your pet will always use Cautious Attack no matter what you select. Also note that what ever stance you use also affects the damage your opponent will do, so if you use Fierce Attack your opponents damage will also be multiplied by 1.4 likewise if your opponent uses Fierce Attack both your and their damage will be multiplied by 1.4, to add to this the effect is cumulative so if both you and your opponent both use Fierce Attack damage will be multiplied by 1.4 and then again by 1.4

We can now work out how much damage you may do in any given round, this can be an important tool which allows you to calculate damage at critical moments in a battle, following is an example with some of the weapons listed in this guide, let us say your strength is 13, you decide to use 2 Scarab Rings with Fierce Attack stance, your opponent also uses Fierce Attack stance. How much damage will you do?

each Scarab Ring is 6 icons so

2 Scarab Rings Str Multiplier @ 13 Str Your Fierce Attack Opponents Fierce Attack Total Damage
12 X 1.0 X 1.4 X

1.4 =

23.52

this would be round up to 24 points of damage

Battling Round For Round

I will supply a little round by round guide that will work for most battles, this of course will only work if you fight an opponent that is not too much more stronger than you, its unlikely that snowager would be appropriate to fight if you're just starting out.

Round Information Weapons Attack Stance
1 You must freeze your opponent this round, if not hit back on browser click on status link to withdraw, heal and go back, repeat until you freeze opponent. Snowglobe Staff Scarab Ring Faerie Ability Burrow
2 Opponent is frozen Sticky Snowball Sticky Snowball Fierce/ Berserk if you have it
3   Scarab Ring Downsize! Fierce/ Berserk if you have it
4 If you need healing Scarab Ring Greater Healing Scroll Faerie Ability Sink
Have quite a bit of hp still left (1/2 or more) Scarab Ring Scarab Ring Faerie Ability Sink
5 If you didn't use heal last turn you probably need it now Leaf Shield Greater Healing Scroll Defend
If you used healing last turn Scarab Ring  Leaf Shield Defend
