Mysterious Morphing Experiment Guide
MME FAQ
Q: What is a Mysterious Morphing Experiment?
A: It's an item which changes form (from one item to another) over time. We like to call the changes "morphs," and the different items "states" or "stages." The number of stages (anywhere from a few to several), appearance of future stages, and time in between morphs (could be days or weeks) will always be a surprise -- it's more fun that way! When your Experiment makes its last morph, all of the previous item states or stages will appear in your Inventory. From there, you can do whatever you like with the items: they'll behave just like any other "normal" item.
Q: Where can I place my Mysterious Morphing Experiment?
A: You can place your Experiment in all of the same places as a normal item, using the same methods. No matter where you place it -- in your Inventory, in your Closet, on your Neopet, etc. -- the Experiment will morph (when it's time) to its next state until it reaches its final state. You can also gift an Experiment as you would any other Neocash item by using an NC Gift Box.
Q: May I gift a Mysterious Morphing Experiment to a friend?
A: Yes. Please keep in mind that the Experiment may morph into a new state between the time you gift it and the time it is accepted by your friend. You may also gift the individual states (items) once your Experiment has reached its final state and all of its previous item states have been deposited into your Inventory.
Q: What happens when I gift a Mysterious Morphing Experiment before it reaches its final state?
A: If the recipient accepts your gift, they will receive it as they would any other item. They will also receive all of its previous item states once the Experiment reaches its final state. If they return the Experiment before it reaches its final state, then you will get to keep it along with all of its previous item states.
Q: How do I know when my Experiment will change from one stage to the next? What if I miss a whole stage?
A: The short answer is: there's no way to know. It could be days or weeks, so it's best to keep an eye on it. If, however, you take a break and end up missing one or more stages, you can rest assured that you'll get to see them when your Experiment undergoes its last morph into its final stage and you get all of its previous stages (items) deposited into your Inventory.
Q: Do Experiments of the same type morph at the same time?
A: Yes, Experiments of the same type will always morph from one state to the next at the same time. Occasionally, you might see your Experiment morph a little before or a little after someone else's, but don't worry, that's perfectly normal.
Q: Is it possible to get different outcomes from the same Experiment?
A: Yes, it's possible! For example, you could buy two of the same Experiment and when they undergo their second morph (into their third state), one could change to one item state and the other to something completely different. Then at the next morph, they could both change to the same item state or they could continue going their separate ways. You might even get a special limited edition bonus item at the end, but only if you're really, really lucky!
Q: How many items do I end up with when I purchase a Mysterious Morphing Experiment?
A: It varies from Experiment to Experiment. You're sure to get at least three items, though!
Q: How do I know that an item is a Mysterious Morphing Experiment? How will I know when it's reached its final stage?
A: Experiments are distinguished by a special "?" symbol which appears on the lower right corner of the item's image when it's stored in your Inventory, Closet or SDB. This symbol only appears when the Experiment is still "active" (i.e. in the process of morphing). When the item reaches its final stage, the special symbol will no longer be visible. The special symbol will not appear on any of the individual, previous item states which will be deposited into your Inventory once your Experiment arrives at its final stage. Also, Experiment [item] names will begin with the prefix "MME."
