The History of the Cup

According to the Neopedia, the Altador Cup was help annually until the great city vanished. After one thousand years of cuplessness, the sport of yooyu ball has returned with flash graphics and spiffy sound effects.

The Altador Cup field currently consists of sixteen teams, each representing a different Neopian land. Two teams of five players attempt to throw a ball (in this case, a Yooyu Petpet) into the opposing team's goal. The yooyu, or the "eleventh player" in the game, the Yooyu comes in four different varieties: snow, fire, faerie, and mutant. Each of these "balls" acts in a different way, giving its own dimension to the game. Only the healthiest Yooyus receive the honour of being allowed to participate in the Altador Cup.

As for those friendly commentators, the Altador Cup Committee is a group of respected officials that oversees the event. If any conflicts emerge, whether they are between teams or players, the Committee will step in to find a solution. The Committee has the final word with regard to any situation that relates to the tournament.

Altador IV Competetors

Below you will see a complete list of the teams competing in the forth annual altador cup. Next to a picture of a selected member of the team are a list of team strengths and weaknesses. If you have not yet chosen your team, this might help you decide.

Roo Island
As the Altador Cup's defending champions, the true test will now come for Lilo Blumario and company as they enter this tournament with a bull's-eye on their backs, knowing full-well that every other Yooyuball squad in the tournament (not to mention their fans) already have those two matches with the reigning champs circled on their calendar. The team members are Fenny Vail (pitured at righht), Gordo Gunnels, Jair Tollet, Clutch Billaban and the team captain, Lilo Blumario. Some strengthes of this team are scoring and passing, while a weakness is size, with Mr. Gunnels as an exception.

Altador
No longer capable of blaming their millennial layoff, after a second straight season of finishing 13th the Altador squad has really started to be seen as underachievers. While, certainly, the team has the kind of talent to potentially make them a factor in the tournament, Altador's fans have grown tired of potential and are now hungry for results. The members of this team include Salayne Ritad (pictured left), Lyvon Cibaire, Winberto Seliz, Timu and team captain, "Trapper" Remis. Some strengthes of team Altador are speed and craftiness, while some weaknesses are generally passing and scoring. Let's hope team Altador can manage to prove us all wrong. After all, they most certainlly have the home field advantage!

Darigan Citadel
Slipping from their spot as defending champions down to seventh place, it would seem as though the Darigan Yooyuball team has come to a crossroads, whereby they'll either retool and rebound or continue to slip further behind. Fielding this team is, Reshar Collifey, Tormo "The Terror" Frein, Kep Bonnefie, Tandrak Shaye (pictured right), and team captain Layton Vickles. Some strengthes of Team Darigan are tackling and guarding, while some weaknesses are scoring and passing.

Faerieland
Ahh, Faerieland. Despite roster changes, adjustments to their on-field formation, and an endless variety of strategic straw-grasping, this beloved land's desperate attempts at fielding a respectable Yooyuball squad have yielded next to no results - a fact which, apparently, has only become a cause of concern among a very small minority of their fans. The roster for Team Faeireland includes Valtonous Rea, Babolino, Delma Harrence (pictured left), Ciona Broan and the team captain is Kakoni Worrill. The only strengthes of this team really, passing and craftiness. The weaknesses are scoring and speed.

Haunted Woods
The Haunted Woods team continued its gradual slide since winning the tournament two years ago, following their 7th place finish in Altador Cup II with an 8th place showing last year. While critics point to their ageing defence as the cause of the team's demise, the Haunted Woods' management feels it would be a waste of goaltender Krell Vitor - who gives the team a fighting chance since he's still in his prime . to start rebuilding already. The Haunted Woods team is made up of Fanetti, Wan Dirx (pictured right), Autrey Fulse, Zo Junior, feautring team captain Krell Vitor. Some general stregthes of the Haunted Woods are tackling and speed, while weaknesses are size and inexperiance.

Kreludor
One of the biggest surprises of Altador Cup III was Kreludor bouncing back from missing Altador Cup II to finish sixth in last year's tournament. The team's unexpected success has led to rather lofty expectations though; at this point, anything less than a spot in the finals would be considered a letdown. Kreludor team members include Jurin T., Coco Metrone, Qlydae Wegg (pictured left), Zenor Kevix and team captain Derlyn Fonnet. Some noticable strengtes of this team are passing and speed. Some other general weaknesses are size and strength.

Krawk Island
Landing in the Round of Four for the third straight time, Krawk Island actually reached the finals last year before losing the title to Roo Island. Team Krawk Island is made up of Garven Hale (pictured right), Ealyn Hawkshanks, Nitri Cassale, Zayle Sufhaux and team captain "Dasher" Soley. This well balanced team has a good chance at the cup this year. Their strengthes are passing and guarding while they have mixed weaknesses.

Shenkuu
With two Round of Four appearances in their first two years of playing in the tournament, Shenkuu seems to be this year's odds-on favourite to win the championship. The strengthes and weaknesses for team Shenkuu are as follows. None of the members of team Shenkuu share any strengthes. As for weaknesses their only shared one is consistency. Members of this team include Xana DiLanche, Foltaggio (pictured left), Antola Maeir, Larcy Phu and Mirsha Grelinek, team captain.

Lost Desert
Team Lost Desert is fielded by none other then Luvea Trivon, Vonde Cayle, Lamelle Turow, Derbi Azar (pictured right), and team captain Leera Heggle. Strengthes on the team are passing and scoring while no unified weaknesses could be identified. This promising team of Yooyuballers has gotten better each of the past three years, moving from a second-round defeat at Altador Cup I to a fifth-place finish in AC II before their stunning 3rd place showing last year. Can this tightly-knit team of role players overcome its lack of a superstar to clear that final hurdle and bring a championship back to the Lost Desert?

Maraqua
Another year, another meagre outlook for the Maraquan Yooyuball squad. Despite the addition of fan-favourite Dorina Hals, the team slipped from their 9th place finish two years ago to a 10th place showing last year. At this point, unless something drastic is done, it seems as though Maraqua is destined to spend yet another middling year as a mediocre non-contender. Mebers of the Maraqua Yooyuball team are Tonie Plessix (pictured left), Oten Runeu, Dorina Hals, Barit Jowes and team captain Elon "The Black Hole" Hughlis. The only real strength of the team is size, while their weaknesses are speed, inexperiance and passing.

Meridell
In the days prior to this year's Altador Cup, Meridell has become the trendy "sleeper" pick among those who think there's a chance one of the tournament's less-heralded teams might emerge and win it all. One key reason for this enthusiasm is goalie Yoris Obbles, who rose from relative obscurity to win last year's Rookie of the Year award. Will Obbles sidestep the sophomore slump and guide Meridell to a title? We'll just have to wait and see. Team Meridell consists of team captain "Wizard" Windelle, Yoris Obbles, Ilsa Ellits (pictured right), Fiorina, Gregorio Maille. There only real strength is passing, with no other strong points, or weak points for that matter.

Mystery Island
Some strengthes of team Mystery Island are tackling and passing. The only unified weakness of team Mystery Island is scoring. The members of this team are, team captain Volgoth, Lor Benneveldt, Teylor Nix, Bertie Shurtz, and Vela Binal (pictured left). It seems as though, over the years, tournament teams have gotten progressively better at slowing down and reigning in Mystery Island's once-frightening offense. As long as forwards Volgoth and Teylor Nix are still taking the field for them, Mystery Island will probably always be able to embarrass an opponent who lacks focus, talent, or isn't in ideal physical condition, but their ability to take on top-flight competitors and emerge with meaningful wins is lessening by the day.

Terror Mountain
Despite possessing a couple of exciting players in Prytariel and Osielle Lidel, Terror Mountain's showing in last year's tournament was actually worse than in Altador Cup II. Terror Mountain's Yooyuball squad is made up of captain, Prytariel, Minae Mitora in the goal, Rinok Fitel, Elbin Kroe (pictured right) and Osielle Lidel. Some weaknesses of the team are inexperiance and lack of concentration. However, some strengthes of the team are passing and speed.

Tyrannia
After a first round loss in Altador Cup I and back-to-back 11th place finishes, you'd think that Tyrannia would be looking shake things up . you know, maybe sign a free agent, make a trade, or conduct a few tryouts? And yet, they've come back to the tournament with the same roster for the fourth straight year. Tyrannia team members are Harlis Neyhbol, "Scrap" Taggert, Wila Benne, Evrem Guilako (pictured left), and team captain Loryche. The team strength is passing, while the weaknesses are different for every player on the team.

Virtupets
Despite finishing dead last the year before, Space Station fans were surprisingly upbeat entering Altador Cup III. After all, their young superstar Keetra Deile had gained a year's worth of experience, and hopes were high for their new netminder, the Goltron Mk I. Despite Deile's best efforts, her supporting cast was simply not up to par, and as for the Goltron. well, he came nowhere close to meeting expectations. Team Virtupets team members are Goltron Mk I, Sela Pretore, Weldar Xupenfarb, XL Striker 3.8 (pictured right) and team captain Keetra Deile. The teams weaknesses are different for every player on the team, but the strength is speed.

Kiko Lake
Sidelined from last year's tournament by a rockslide that kept the team from arriving in Altador on time, Kiko Lake made sure to show up extra early this year. The strengthes of this team are varied between team members, but the weakness is lack of experiance. The team members are team captain "Poke" Cellers, Erli Quinnock, Meela Kitah, Holbie Pinnock, and Ditan Colb (pictured left).

Cup Stardegies

Listed below are some ways of scoring that tend to work for me when I play. Keep in mind, these are just suggestions and may not work for everybody. If you have any play-by-play stradegies for me to add, please feel free to neomail Duplexes. The link is at the bottom of this page.

Method One

In this method, you grab the yooyu quickly after the game is done loading. Run circles around the defence until you end up at the far corner of the opposing net, then shoot. If you miss, continue circling and shooting. In my opinion, this is the easiest way to score goals.

Method Two

For method two when the game begins, quickly get the yooyu before the other team and pass it back to one of your defenders. Run your defender, whomever it is up to the far corner of the other team's net. Once there shoot. If you miss procede with the instructions from method one.

Standings

These are yooyu ball standings in the Altador Cup IV as of June 6th, the end of the first week of competition. Keep in ming slushie slinger and make some noise scores were only used to determine standings if yooyu ball scores were tied. These scores will be updated weekly.
