Sorry about the lack of updates! I'll try to get everything caught up soon. :c
There is a new token in the NC Mall! Isca is only on sale until September 6, 2010.

Price: 500 NC

Also comes with Iscas Dress.
I'm alive. I swear it. B)
I've finally had some time to take screenies. The lack of updates is depressing, I know. Sorry! :(
Two 'new' boards, Sweet 2 and Springtime 2, have been added. The Sweet 2 board is the same layout as the old Chocolate one, while the new Springtime one has a very different layout.
I was also able to add some screenies from the new mini-games. If you have any other information or tips, please drop me a neomail. Thanks!
There's a new token in the NC Mall! It's the Negg Faerie Key Quest Token and costs 500 NC. Hurry and buy it before June 2! It comes with Negg Faerie Wig.

I sincerely apologize for the lack of updates. Real life has been terribly busy, and neopets just isn't my top priority anymore. Again, I am sorry for my absence!
I am aware that I am missing many board and mini-game updates. I will try to update those sections soon; however, I do not have much time to play KQ. :S It would be amazing if a kind soul could update me on what is missing. Thank you. :)
The Cupid Shoyru Key Quest Token has been in the NC Mall for quite a while. It's only 450 NC and won't be available after February 22! It comes with Flying Cupid Shoyru Toy.

Happy New Year to all! :)
There seems to be a new mini-game called Shenkuu Showers appearing on certain boards, namely Springtime and Moltara. However, it does not seem to be working properly. Many users report being booted out after getting this game. Hopefully, TNT will fix it soon!
If you have any other information regarding this mini-game, please drop me a neomail!
Hannah is the newest KQ token you can get from the NC Mall! She is also 500 NC and comes with a bonus item: Hannah and the Pirate Cave Stringlights.

There is a new Moltara gameboard in Key Quest! You can play it in both Normal and Open Beta modes.

Another NC token! Until Dec. 8, you can buy the Roxton Colchester III Key Quest Token from the mall for 500 NC! It also comes with a bonus item: Roxton Colchester III Slippers.

Also, although the Altador Cup is over, you can still get the Yooyu Token by joining a team!
Also, there seems to be a new version of the HW Board. It randomly appears when you select 'Haunted Woods' as your game board. The only difference is the graphics; the keys, alignments, and general layout are the same.
For a limited time (until Nov. 6), you can buy the Ferocious Negg Key Quest Token from the NC Mall for 400 NC! It also comes with a bonus item: Angry Ferocious Negg.

Screenies of the Ti-Key mini-map and home selection screen have been put up. Also, check out the Rules section for a screenie that verifies posting a username of a 'quitter' is harassment.
Have fun on the new board!

Key Quest is going Ti-key! There is a fun new board that you can play and redeem keys for Ti-key prizes." -- news
Please neomail me any screenies you may have!
Please note that Open Beta has not been working for the past month. When it starts working again, please tell me!

Check your Inventory and be sure to put your new background in your Closet if you want to use it to customise your Neopets.
Your new Yooyu token can be found in your Key Quest Collector's case in the special category. To find out how to play Key Quest with your new token, visit the Key Quest Tutorial

If you are ready to start playing for your team, Play Now!

And there you have it. For those who missed the event, the game was unable to load for the majority of the hour.

Again, I apologize for whatever inconveniences this may have caused. Thank you for being understanding... and spread the word!
Please spread the word and update the link back buttons. As much as I would love to get Oessu back, it's highly unlikely.
Thank you for your support love; that's what made me come back. :) You know who you are.
On a completely different note, the Springtime board is now available in the Normal Version of Key Quest.

Key Garland
A message like this should appear after you collect your prizes:
You have been awarded the following:

Your new Abigail token can be found in the Key Quest Collector's Case. To visit your Key Quest Collector's Case, go here. Then click on the category labeled "Special" to the left of the case to view your new token."

The last load test's prize has not yet been given out. Please neomail me if items start appearing in your inventories. :P
In other news, the Abigail token has been spotted on Collector's Cases under the Special category. We believe the method to obtain this token is from the Daily Dare.
Keep checking back to see if she's available! The Key Quest and Daily Dare boards will probably be the first ones to know. :P
Be sure to tune in to the load test this Saturday!

Q. Help! I get a blue screen when I try to connect to Key Quest!
A. Sometimes, the server may be extremely busy or down. You can confirm this by checking the Key Quest Boards to see if others have made topics addressing this.
If it appears to be working fine for everyone else, refresh the Keyquest page every few minutes or so until you get in. Try reopening your window multiple times. It also won't hurt to try using a different browser.
Try clearing your cache/temporary internet files. Running a disk cleanup may boost your computer's performance as well. Run a virus scan, while you're at it.
Q. Help again! I can only see a white screen when I try connecting to Key Quest.
A. In most cases, you will need to get the latest Flash Player upgrade. I believe the current version is 10, even though 9 is sufficient. To check which version you have, simply go to your Control Panel. Click on Programs and look up Adobe Flash Player. You can just look up "Adobe Flash Player 10" for a free download, since we are not allowed to post off-site links. ;) If you already have the latest version, you may need to reinstall it.

Q. I have updated my flash player and tried the tips above, but it still won't load!
A. If you have tried everything possible on your end, then there is a high probability that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is blocking access to the game. In this case, there isn't much you can do, other than trying to use a different connection (eg. try from school, work, public place). Keep trying to get in, however, since KQ can be down at random times.
Q. I tried playing KeyQuest on various servers and computers, but it still won't work.
A. I have also heard about a glitch possibly relating to certain users being unable to load the game. :( There is not much you can do at this point. I would recommend sending a bug/glitch report to TNT and hope they fix it soon!
Q. I got into the game, but how come it won't let me click on anything?
A. Try refreshing the game and clearing your cache/temp. internet files as stated earlier. If this doesn't work, try loading the game again later and the problem should be alleviated.
Q. I started a game and music plays, but there's a blank screen.
A. This is another glitch that occurs once in a while. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do, unless you would like to attempt playing without seeing the board. I recommend quitting and neomailing your opponent an apology. Upon refreshing the game, it should run normally. If not, refer to the above question and update your flash player.

Q. How do you turn off the sound?
A. Click on 'Settings' (the gear icon) which is located above the chat -blocked- Scroll to the bottom and move the bar to adjust the volume. Hint: There is also a handy mute button near the top right corner of the game.
Q. What are the recommended system requirements for Keyquest?
A. These are taken directly from the official FAQ page. Harhar. B) As you can see, they are extremely demanding. To check your own computer's information, click Start -- System & Maintenance -- System. (or something along those lines)
Problems have also been reported the users whose computers surpass these requirements. Be wary and realize that these are just basic guidelines.
PC:
Windows XP or Vista
1.5 GHz or higher processor
2 GB RAM
256 MB Video Card
Internet Explorer 6.0 or above
Firefox 2.0 or above
Mac:
Mac OS X 10.4.11 or higher
Intel Core Duo 2 GHz or higher processor
2 GB RAM
Firefox 2.0 or above
Q. What is the 'low res' version of Key Quest? o_o; Where is it?
A: That would be the low resolution version of the game. You can right click on the image of the game and select the quality. It lightens the burden on slower/older computers and allows them to enjoy Key Quest fully. (besides the glitches..)
The current link is located here:
http://images.neopets.com/keyquest/game/kq2/KeyQuest.swf?v=34
Here's the open beta one:
http://images.neopets.com/keyquest/game/beta/KeyQuest.swf?v=25
Remember: Right click -- Quality -- Medium/Low
If these links do not appear to be working, please inform me!
As a quick fix, change the kq1 to kq2, or visa versa, if you find that no one is in any of the rooms!

Q. How did you get the low resolution link? Is it safe?
A. Rest assured, this link is merely the image/full screen version of Key Quest. In the instance that I forget to find the latest low res link, you can get it yourself!
1. On the main page, you can right click on the grey area near the blue game screen.
2. Choose view source.
(If you cannot right click, try "view-page source" - this should be the same for most browsers).
3. Press "CTRL + F" and type "swf?v" into search box.
(If you cannot press ctrl+f, then use the edit-find menu in your browser).
4. There, you will find the image link.Simply copy the URL to the browser address bar and viola! Right click, click on quality, and select either medium or low.
BUT BE WARNED, if you select low quality, it WILL mess up the text in the game. (e.g. powerup info not appearing on the card, etc.) Please keep that in mind when playing with the low resolution link.
Q. Do you play with different people in the low res links?
A. No, it is just the full-size version of the game. You will see the same people in the rooms as you would without the links.

Q. What is Key Quest?
A. Key Quest is basically an online board game. Many players agree that it's mechanics are rather similar to Mario Party. You are able to play with up to 3 people.
There are different elements in this game, including power-ups, alignments, mini-games, and more that will be discussed in later sections.
Upon completing a game, you will be awarded a key, which you can then redeem for more prizes! :P
Q. How do I win Keyquest?
A. Collect a specified number of keys (2-5) necessary and arrive at the Quest Door (glowing one in the center) first. If you are playing a 5-key game, you will need to collect all the colors (white, green, blue, red, yellow). If you are playing a 2-key game, you only need to collect 2 (red and yellow).
Q. How do I make a game?
A. At the house, click the door that says 'Create Game'. You can also choose a topic (to the right) or the amount of keys (to the left). Click 'Create Game' near the bottom. A screen will pop up with many options to choose from(# of players, # of keys, game board, etc.).
Q. How do I join a game?
A. First, select a topic or amount of keys per game. You can double click to join a game if there are dimmed smiley faces. The list refreshes itself every few seconds, so be patient and keep trying.
You can also click on 'Quick Game' at the house, which puts you into the first available game. Keep in mind that it will place you into any #-key game.
Q. What does the crown on the token mean [in the waiting room]?
A. The person who made the game is represented by it. If the original creator is gone, the crown is passed on to the next player who entered.
Q. How do I invite someone to my KQ game?
A. First of all, any players that you are inviting MUST BE ONLINE IN KEYQUEST at the same time. (remember to check if you are in normal or beta mode...) The easiest (and necessary) way to ensure success is being in the same room. (e.g. newbies, experts, etc.) If you cannot see each other in-game, clear your temporary internet files and restart the game.
Elect one person to create the game (most likely yourself). When you get to that screen, you can click 'invite players' and select other players. You may have to type their names in. An invite should show up in their chat box saying something along the lines of "so-and-so has invited you to a game." They can then click on the event and join your game. Enjoy!
Q. I can't see my neofriends online in my KQ friend list!
A. The KQ friend list only shows VIP NFs. If you want to easily access any users, just make them VIP! Click here for your neofriends list.
Chat
Q. Why won't let me type messages to other people?
A. Currently, we are only allowed to use pre-generated messages, hence the scripted chat. This was most likely done to prevent abuse and to 'protect' users under the age of 13. TNT has yet to release free chat. (though, I was one of the few who had a taste of free chat a while ago :P) And no, we do not know when free chat will be released. It is, however, listed as a 'coming soon' feature on the About page.
Q. The preset chat is so annoying! D:
A. Yes, I know. D: If your mouse has a scroll wheel, it makes it easier to navigate through the responses. I will add a list of all the preset chat messages. Memorize which category they fall under for quicker replies. ;)

Q. Why did my game 'abnormally end'?
A. Though there are numerous possibilities, there are two main reasons. One, being that your opponent quit. And two, either one of you were booted out of the game. It's usually the latter.
Q. Can you block someone from entering your KQ games?
A. Nope, you can only prevent this user from contacting you. They will still be able to join your games. :/ (this is why I believe blocking so-called quitters is pointless, unless they send harassing neomails)

Q. Which game boards can we play on?
A. Currently, you can choose from Neopia Central, Haunted Woods, Terror Mountain, Sweet 1, Sweet 2, Springtime, Springtime 2, Ti-Key, Ti-Key 2, and Moltara.

Q. How do we choose different game boards?
A. The Haunted Woods and Terror Mountain boards are now up and running in the normal version of the game. If you hover over created games, you can see what gameboard you are joining. (e.g. Neopia Central, HW, TM...) When you are creating a game, you have a choice between the boards. Simply choose from the dropdown menu.
Q. How do you get the Valentine's Day/Chocolate/Candy board?A. You must create/enter a game on 'Neopia Central'. You will randomly get the new board. You will know you got it if the order of the houses is different from the regular Neopia Central one.
The old Valentine's Day board is now called 'Sweet 1' and you can find it in the drop-down list when creating a new game. The alternate version of the board is called 'Sweet 2'. The layout is the same, but the graphics are different.
Q. What is the yellow square with an X on it?
A. That would be the treasure chest spot. If you land DIRECTLY on it (when ending your turn), you will get NP, a random power-up, and a choice of any key. Remember, you have to end your turn on it for the magical square to take effect. You will not be able to collect anything when a giant lint ball has been played on you, however.
Q. How come I didn't collect any powerups or keys from the treasure spot?
A. If a giant lint ball, random event, or hex has been played on you, you will not receive power-ups or keys from the treasure chest. In addition, you MUST have collected at least one key before the treasure is available to you. Regardless, you will still receive neopoints when you land on this space.

Q. What are some abbreviations used in Key Quest?
A. Well, *some* crazy people on the board use these :P:
KQ = Key Quest
NP = Neopoints
GLB = Giant Lint Ball
KG = Key Grabber
SKG = Super Key Grabber
NC = Neopia Central (Board)
HW = Haunted Woods (Board)
TM = Terror Mountain (Board)
POD = Pile of Dung
Neomail me more! :D
Q. Can you earn neopoints from Key Quest?
A. Yes, you will collect all the neopoints you earn upon completing the game. NP tiles (below) earn you points. Playing mini-games and landing on the treasure chest give you even more!
Q. What is the maximum amount of NP you can earn from KQ?
A. You can earn a total of 30k per day. The limit on each game is 5k, however.

Q. Why do people who aren't newbies play in the newbies room?! It's so unfair!
A. First of all, many players click on the 5-key game room. Here, there are no distinctions between newbie or expert games. Someone who is not a 'newbie' may be accidentally joining your game. Newbie/expert is also a relative term, so don't get too hung up over it. Just create another game and move on. You can also ask for other newbies on the boards.
Q. How do you roll higher numbers on the dice?
A: The rolls you get are completely random. In some games you may roll higher numbers, and in others, lower ones. Some have claimed to have developed 'strategies'. I'm not sure how that works... but try to figure out something for yourself. Remember: It's random.
Q. What are location squares?
A. They are the spaces with a white flower on top of a red circle. (screenie soon) If you land on one, you will get 200 NP.
Q. What locations are there?
A. There are four total locations: Coltzan's Shrine, Edna's Tower, The Healing Springs, and The Money Tree.
Q. What is the square with a question mark?
A. When you or your opponent(s) land on it, a random Neopian Character will pop up. Depending on the person, their effects can be good or bad.

| Name | Description |
![]() Bree | She's placed three different keys on three random squares across the board. Try to get them before everyone else does! |
![]() Grimtooth | He ensures that all players can only roll a 1, 2, or 3 for one round. |
![]() Jerdana | She grants all players a random power-up. Use it wisely. |
![]() King Roo | Everyone rolls one 12-sided die (instead of 6-sided) for the next round. Yay! |
![]() King Skarl | He sends all players back to their home squares. |
![]() The Dark Faerie Sisters | They've repositioned all the key squares on the game board and disappeared in a flash. Wonderful. The keys are still in the same position, but their colors have been mixed around. |
Q. There are random events?!
A. Yes, there are! What board game would be complete without these? :P As the name suggests, these are RANDOM and there is no way to telling when any of them will occur. It's best just to play and be ready at all times.
| Name | Description |
![]() Bree | Bree decides to mix things up a bit and allows all players to exchange one of their keys with her for one key of another color. A green for a red? A white for a blue? You decide. |
![]() Portal | All the portals on the board suddenly get much stronger, sucking in surrounding objects-- and nearby players! Oops. If you were moved to another square on the board, now you know why.. |
![]() Portal | Looks like there's a clog somewhere and the portals have stopped working! Don't worry, The Key Quest Portal Maintenance Association of Neopia should have it fixed in about two rounds. That includes lunch breaks. |
![]() Direction | You don't know why, but all players have been turend around and now must go in the opposite direction! It's probably another evil villain at work, what's new? |
![]() Gust of Wind | A strong gust of wind blows across the board, carrying everyone with it! All players have landed on a random square. Most inconvenient. |

Q. What are tokens?
A. Tokens are the game pieces you use in Keyquest. As of now, you can use neopets, faeries, novas, neggs, and misc. characters. The starter tokens given out are: Red Meerca, Yellow Poogle, Green Cybunny, and Blue Bruce.
Q. Does obtaining new tokens offer any advantages?
A. Not really. They're only there for the aesthetic aspect of this game. I suppose, you could consider other tokens advantageous due to their alignments.
Q. How do I get my free token?
A. The page to get a free token linked in the Official Tutorial is broken and does not work. You will automatically get one of the starter tokens when you first load KQ. It should be in your Collector's Case.
Use this link: www.neopets.com/keyquest/freetoken/
if you have not received a starter token yet.

You are given a choice between the four starter tokens listed above. If you have already collected your starter token, the link should take you to your Collector's Case.
Q. How do you get more tokens?
A. There are several methods to getting tokens.
1. You need to buy real-life 5" Neopets plushies and redeem the code that comes with them on attached tags.
2. A few rare tokens (Jeran, Princess Amira, The Darkest Faerie) are given out randomly by Trading Card Fun Paks, NOT TCGs. You will know you got a token code if the card pack came with a gold card, not a green card (virtual prize). Redeeming that card will give you one of the three aforementioned characters.
3. Tokens have been given out during site events (Grand Master Challenge, Advent Calender, Daily Dare, etc.). Keep a close lookout for future tokens on the boards and various help sites.
4. New tokens are occasionally available in the NC Mall. Check back frequently!

Q. Where can I buy more tokens?
A. There are quite a few places that sell Neopets merchandise.
(Please neomail me information about stores in countries outside of the USA!)
Some stores include:
USA: Target, Toys R Us, Walmart, Claire's, Limited Too, KMart, Khol's
Canada: Walmart, Claire's, Zellers
New Zealand: The Warehouse, Farmers
Australia: Target
You can also buy tokens online from some retailers and independent sellers. However, I would make sure the codes they're sending you have not been used. Also check that the plushies you buy in stores still have their tags intact. (and that the token codes match with your plushie)
Q. Which plushies will give me a KQ token?
A. Check the Catalogue to see which plushies come with a redeemable KQ token code. As a rule of thumb, 5" plushies usually come with a code.
Q. Is there any way to get tokens without buying Neopets
merchandise?
A. TNT has stated that they will be releasing tokens around the site. So far, they've been given out as prizes during the GMC and the Advent Calender. For information on new tokens, check around the boards and various help sites regularly.
Q. How do I change my Keyquest token?
A. Go to your Collector's Case and find your token. Click on it. The window that pops up should say "Quick List" at the bottom. Check this box and you'll be set!
You can also switch tokens between games if you have more than one token on your quick list. In the Game Lobby or Waiting Rooms (the House) and click on "Select" near the top left-hand corner under your current token icon. Choose the token you wish to use from the drop down menu.
Q. I redeemed my token, but it shows up as a red meerca in the game!
A. As of this moment, not all the tokens are ready for play. They have not yet been implemented in the game, or there are issues when using them. We can only hope that TNT will fix this problem quickly. Common ones that users are experiencing difficulty with include the new series tokens.
Q. Can I redeem my token code multiple times?
A. No. Each KQ code can only be used once. This is why it is extremely important that the tags are not stolen, or the person you are buying from did not use it yet.
Q. What is my Collector's Case?
A. Basically, it holds all of your Key Quest game tokens. (direct link) You can find them all by clicking on the categories on the left and specific collections on the top. Clicking on a token will bring up a window with further information on it. Tokens that you have acquired will be displayed. Shadowed tokens are ones you do not have. Question marks are tokens which have not been released.
Q. How do you get more themes?
A. You will need to buy a special *boxed* Neocash card. There are eight that correspond to the different colored themes currently available. Buying one will unlock a theme.
Q. What themes are there?
A. You can obtain green, yellow, red, pink, orange, and blue from the $10 NC cards. Silver and gold can be obtained through the $25 NC cards.
Q. How do you change the theme of your Collector's Case?
A. To change the theme itself, click on the wrench near the bottom right hand corner of your case. It should pop-up with your Collector's Case preferences. Simply select your theme from the drop-down list and click apply!
Q. How do you get The Darkest Faerie, Jeran, and Princess Amira tokens?
A. You MAY receive one of these tokens when you redeem the codes from the new Trading Card Fun Paks. However, please keep in mind that receiving a token is completely random. You may open hundreds of packs and not get a gold card/token.
Q. How do I get the Nova, Supernova, Dark Nova, Ultranova, Grey Nova, or Smiley Negg tokens?
A. You get the Novas/Neggs by redeeming codes for every NEOPET Token in a series. The token you get is dependent on the series (you get the same one, not a random one, from doing an entire series). The Nova Token appears at the end of your Neopets Tokens for that series.
Q. How do I get the AAA token?
A. This token was released as a prize for Day 2 of the 2008 GMC. It is currently unavailable.
Q. How do I get the Ylana Skyfire token?
A. She was given out as a token on Day 18 of the Advent Calender in 2008. This token is also currently unavailable.
Q. How do you get the Abigail token?
A. Challenge and beat either AAA or Abigail on March 21, 2009 in the Daily Dare.
Q. Which tokens have been available in the NC Mall?
A. Each NC Mall token also comes with a NP item.

Ferocious Negg Key Quest Token | Angry Ferocious Negg (400 NC)

Roxton Colchester III Key Quest Token | Roxton Colchester III Slippers (500 NC)

Hannah Key Quest Token | Hannah and the Pirate Cave Stringlights (500 NC)

Cupid Shoyru Key Quest Token | Flying Cupid Shoyru Toy (450 NC)

Negg Faerie Key Quest Token | Negg Faerie Wig (500 NC)

Isca Key Quest Token | Iscas Dress (500 NC)

Kauvara Key Quest Token | Kauvara Shirt & Cape (450 NC)
Alignments
Q. What are alignments?
A. They are specific elements given to each token. This basically means that each token works best with one alignment. For instance, the red meerca is aligned to air. If you land on the air alignment space, you will be blessed with a random super power-up and a charm. If you land on any other space, you will be hexed.
The charms and hexes you receive are random. There are also no differences between the effects of all the alignment squares (earth, water, etc.).
Q. What alignments are there?
A. There are six different elements (earth, air, water, fire, light, dark). Currently, there is one of each alignment space on the game board.
Q. How do I see what alignment my token is?
A. Simply click on the token in your collectors case. It should show up. If not, try a token guide from the KQ Directory. (We're not allowed to link off-site help pages.
Q. What Super Power-ups are there?
A. Super Boots of Flight, Super Catapult, Super Key Grabber, and Super Pile of Dung.
Q. What charms are there?
A. Here's a quick list of them!
| Name | Players | Description |
![]() A Visitor From Space | 2+ | Choose one key. You will move to that key's square and collect the key. You will also be able to decide which direction to go on your next turn. |
![]() An Unlikely Hero | 2+ | Your keys are safe from all effects for two turns. |
![]() Everyone Deserves a Second Chance... | 2+ | Once this turn ends, you can roll again. |
![]() The Air Faerie's Blessing | 2+ | You move 3 extra spaces. |
![]() The Light Faerie's Blessing | 2+ | You are protected from all negative effects for two turns. |
![]() To Battle! | 2+ | Choose any two players and they will duel immediately. You may choose yourself. |
| Name | Players | Description |
![]() Beware the Bored Swamp Witch | 2+ | Sophie sends you back to your home square, cackles, and then disappears. Great. |
![]() Don't Play with Fire | 2+ | Eithne just lit one of your power-ups on fire and it's burned to a crisp, rendering it unusable. How rude! |
![]() Friend or Foe? | 2+ | Ilere removes all of your power-ups and replaces them with random ones. Did she help or harm you? |
![]() Slow and Steady Does Not Win the Race | 2+ | Hubrid Nox casts a spell that slows you down. On your next turn, you can only roll a 1, 2, or 3. |
![]() Whirlpools are Not as Fun as They Sound | 2+ | The Drenched surround you and spin you around. You are now facing the opposite direction, and must continue in that direction. |

Q. What power-ups are available?
A. Below is a quick list of them. You can check out this petpage for an in-depth look at the power-ups. :)
| Name | Players | Description |
![]() Battle Dice | 2+ | Choose one player to duel with you. It's a virtual game of rock-paper-scissors. The duel takes place immediately. |
![]() Boots of Flight | 2+ | Roll two dice this turn instead of one. You can roll even more with the King Roo random event. :P |
![]() Bottled Quicksand | 3+ | Choose one player who will lose their next turn. |
![]() Catapult | 3+ | Choose one player to send back to their own home square. You may choose yourself. This can be incorporated into numerous strategies when you need to return to your home square. |
![]() Distraction Potion | 2+ | Choose one player. Then choose one of their keys and one of yours. You will swap those keys. It's good in combating the Rainbow Fountain Water. |
![]() Giant Lint Ball | 2+ | Choose one player. That player will be unable to collect power-ups or keys for one turn. You are NOT allowed to skip your turn when this is played on you. It is cheating. Refer to the Rules section for further information. |
![]() Giant Rock Mote | 3+ | Choose a direction and send the mote rolling for 15 squares. Anyone hit loses one turn. |
![]() Key Grabber | 3+ | Choose one player and take one key from that player. |
![]() Loaded Gummy Die | 2+ | Playing this allows you to choose the value of your next roll (up to 6 spaces). This negates any hexes limiting your rolls. |
![]() Misdirected Compass | 2+ | Choose one player to reverse directions on the board. You may choose yourself. This is extremely useful for that pesky random event pops up and turns everyone around! |
![]() Mortog | 2+ | Choose one player. Jump to the same square and move one space ahead. Yes, you *can* jump into the winning space. ;) |
![]() Pile of Dung | 3+ | Choose a board square on which to place the dung. No player can pass that square for one turn. |
![]() Pocket Mini-Game | 3+ | Playing this power-up starts a randomly chosen mini-game. |
![]() Pocket Portal | 2+ | Choose any portal square on the board. (purple swirly thing) You will move directly to that square. You will be unable to use this power-up if the portals are not working due to random events. |
![]() Rainbow Fountain Water | 2+ | Choose one player. Change any one of their keys to a different color. You may change your own keys. |
![]() Rainbow Sticky Hand | 2+ | Choose one player and take one power-up from that player. Feel free to steal others' sticky hands. ;D |
![]() Spare Keyring | 2+ | Choose one player. If that player has any duplicate keys, you will take those extras. |
![]() Swap Keyring | 3+ | Choose one player and take all of their keys. They will then take all of yours. |
![]() Tornado Ring | 2+ | Choose one player. Each of that player's power-ups will be replaced with new ones, chosen at random. You may choose yourself. Be wary, as they may hinder or help your opponents! |
![]() Transporter Helmet | 2+ | Choose one player to trade places with on the board. Keep in mind that you must continue in the direction they were traveling. |
![]() Virtudice | 2+ | Instead of rolling, automatically move six spaces. This negates any hexes limiting your rolls. |
| Name | Players | Description |
![]() Super Boots of Flight | 2+ | Roll 3 dice this turn instead of 1. Again, we all love the King Roo random event! What's your highest roll? :P |
![]() Super Catapult | 2+ | Choose two players to send back to their own home squares. One of these people may be yourself. In addition, you can choose to only send one person home by clicking the X in the bottom right hand corner. Please do not cheat and skip your turn to gain an unfair advantage. |
![]() Super Key Grabber | 2+ | Choose one player and take two keys from that player. You have the option of only taking one key from that player if you click the X in the bottom right hand corner. On your next turn, a normal key grabber will be in its place. We still have not confirmed whether this is a glitch, or whether it was intended. |
![]() Super Pile of Dung | 2+ | Choose two board squares on which to place two piles of dung. No player can pass those squares for one turn. Please do not cheat and skip your turn to gain an unfair advantage. |

Q. How come I got a power-up instead of a key after winning a mini-game?
A. TNT has changed the game so you EITHER get a key OR a power-up. It's completely random.
Q. In mini-games, how come the wooden wall broke down when there was no one there? How come someone collected the gems before me?
A. Their computer and/or connection is most likely faster. Everyone sees a different image on their screen. On theirs, they are breaking down the wall. However, your screen lags and does not show it until later. The same goes for all the other mini-games. The scores may be slow at updating as well.

Objective: Match the most identical pairs of novas.
Instructions:
Use your mouse to click on one nova. Click on another of the same kind to match them! Then, they will be cleared from the board. Try to match more novas than your opponent!
Scoring:
- each pair matched = +2 points
Tips:
- Go for matches that are closer to each other first. aka, grab pairs nearby to be quicker.
- Be careful, the yellow novas are different than the ones with a purple border!
Glitches:
- Novas may require double clicks.
- Matches do not register immediately.

Objective: Collect the most gems and dig to the bottom first.
Instructions:
Use either your mouse or arrow keys to maneuver the Zomutts. You will need to click/tap the key twice to get through the darker patches of soil. Collect the gems on your way down to the finish line for more points!
Scoring:
- Gem (any color) = +3 points
- Getting to the finish line first = +10 points
Tips:
- Don't immediately start digging from your starting position. Take a quick second to look around. Start above the largest amount of gems and work your way (mostly) straight down. This is much more efficient.
- People may not like it if you follow them when they dig. ;)
Glitches:
- Zomutt digs but cannot move down past the starting line.

Objective: Collect the most points from the nuts and bolts.
Instructions:
Use your mouse to click and send your Spyder flying towards the bolts. Watch the light beam from their eyes; this is how you determine the direction they will move when you click. Your spyder will immediately grab and pick up any bolts that it touches. Collect more than your opponent!
Scoring:
- Glowing balls = +1 point
- Square-shaped bolts = +2 points
- Bolts/screws = +3 points
- Hexagonal ones = +4 points
Tips:
- Aim for the bolts worth more points first.
- Stun your opponent by picking up the glowing purple balls!
Glitches:
- Spyder not going all the way to the bottom. (unable to pass some invisible line...)
- Spyders becoming stuck?
- Items not disappearing/getting stuck
Q. What do the glowing spheres at the bottom do?
A. The blue one speeds up your spyder grabber, while the purple one freezes your opponent.

Objective: Catch the greatest amount of petpetpets.
Instructions:
Use your mouse loop the petpets. Draw shapes/circles around those of the same kind. (The target petpetpet is at the top of the screen) It takes a bit of practice, so don't give up! Make sure you are looping ONLY the target petpetpets and NO OTHER petpetpets.
Scoring:
- 1 bug = +5 points
- 2 bugs = +12 points
- 3 bugs = +19 points
- 4 bugs = +26 points
etc...
Tips:
- Looping more petpetpets = GOOD
- Make SURE you're looping the CORRECT petpetpets. ;)
- In the beginning, practice drawing shapes instead of circles. It's much simpler.
Glitches:
- Petpetpet loops not counting...
- Bugs not disappearing...

Objective: Make it to the treasure chest at the center first.
Instructions:
Use your mouse or arrow keys to move the Faellie. Walk over the colored switches to remove the barrier. Repeatedly run into the wooden doors to break them. The first one to the chest wins!
Scoring:
- Breaking down a wooden door = +1 point
- Getting to the chest first = +10 points
Tips:
- The 'maze' stays the same... it does not matter where you start. You'll memorize it after a few games.
- A faster connection usually determines the winner, unfortunately.
Glitches:
- It may APPEAR that your opponent made it to the center without breaking down any wooden doors; but it is your computer that lags.
- Your Faellie may get stuck between the colored doors... so be careful.

Objective: Match the most sequences. (Simon Says)
Instructions:
Use your mouse to click on the flowers. Watch the sequences carefully and repeat them when prompted.
Scoring:
- 50 points per correct step.
Tips:
- Watch the glowing lights carefully and do try not to mess up... self-explanatory. ;)
- Don't begin repeating the sequence until it tells you to do so. The delay is a second or so.
- If you are more of a listener, try listening to the tone of each sound a flower makes and remember each tone by order.
Glitches:
- The game appears to be working again. However, it is still glitchy and slow.

Objective: Clean the most dirt! Woot!
Instructions:
Use your mouse to hose down the Meowclops. Click and hold to let a stream of water out. Follow the petpet around to clean it.
Scoring:
- ?
Tips:
- Points accumulate when dirt disappears, so try to stay for more than a few seconds on a spot until it disappears. o-o; Or something like that.
- Just aim for the dirt and don't miss! Follow the petpet around.
- Be careful and look at which colored water hose you are. The game switches it around.
Glitches:
-

Objective: Collect the most fruit.
Instructions:
Use your mouse to clip the fruit from the tree. Drag/throw them towards your basket. If they make it inside, you will earn points for them.
Scoring:
- One piece of fruit in basket = +100 points
Tips:
- Go for the fruit directly above your basket first...
- ... feel free to steal your opponents'!
- Dropping them on the ground is fun.
Glitches:
- Fruit 'stuck' on the mouse.
-

Objective: Grow and cut the most flowers.
Instructions:
First, use your mouse to select the Watering Can tool. Click above the four seeds to water them. Do this twice for each one until they are fully grown.
Then, click the Clippers above the Water Can tool. Cut right where the stem meets the flower. Cut them all before your opponent to win!
Scoring:
- Cutting flower = +1 point
Tips:
- Try watering all the seeds and THEN cutting them all down at once.

Click and drag into your address bar to enlarge. Thanks, Mistressego!
- Or even better: Water two plants at the same time! You can achieve this through trial and error. Watering the far left plant on a certain spot waters both two left plants. Watering the plant second to the rightmost side achieves the same thing. Keep trying until you get it to work. :)
- You will need to water each plant two times before it grows compltely. It only requires one cut, however.
Glitches:
- Many people have reported lost their mouse after this mini-game.
- The flowers don't cut... or refuse to until after several attempts.

Objective: Throw darts at the target and make it to the finish line first.
Instructions:
Your poogle will move every time a dart lands on the dartboard. To throw a dart, click, hold, and aim at the board until you see the arrow. Release to let it fly! Keep clicking and dragging to score more points until the race is over.
Scoring:
- Middle white circle & red ring = +20 points
- Next white ring = +10 points
- Outer red ring = +5 points

Tips:
- Just keep clicking. Serious. (drag+click, drag+click, drag+...)
- Practice aiming and keep making arrows from one spot.
Glitches:
- Multiple arrows shooting? o_o; This is most likely due to a difference in compter speed.
- Though, sometimes the arrows just never appear...
- You might automatically win when someone crosses the finish line

Objective: Blast away more fruits than your opponents!
Instructions:
Aim and click on fruit using your mouse.
Scoring:
- Purple = 1
- Red/Yellow = 2
- Grey = 3
Tips:
- Aim and click at the center of each berry. It should explode after only one shot.
- Coming soon!
Glitches:
- Fruit may require multiple clicks before going BOOM!
If a fish sees it, a heart will appear above its head. Then, it will bite. You have to wait until the heart becomes yellow lines. Click continuously until you reel the fish all the way in.
[screenie coming soon]
1. When you first cast your line, the timer comes up. When the timer runs out, fish will no longer take the bait, and you have to recast it.
[screenie coming soon]
2. This is when they see the bait and they go for it. But, you CANNOT try and reel the fish in yet, or you will lose them.
Scoring:
- Big Fish = 100
- Medium Fish = 50
- Small Fish = 25
Tips:
- When casting your line, try casting as close to a fish's mouth as much as possible, but careful not to cast *on* them. This will make them angry and refuse to take your bait.
Glitches:
- None?

Q. If you have already redeemed 10 keys, can you get more?
A. Yes, you can earn as many keys as you would like. However, you may not redeem those keys until the next day.
Q. Where does it show the total amount of keys I have earned?
A. Just go to the Keyquest main page. It should be in the box labeled 'My Key Quest Stats' below the 'play' button. Now, you can also view these stats in your Collector's Case!
Q. What's the difference between 5/4/3/2-key games?
A. The numbers correspond to the number of different-colored keys you need to enter the door and win the game. For example, in a 5-key game, you would need to collect at least 1 of each colored key before entering the door. In a 2-key game, you have to collect 1 of the 2 available colors before finishing the game.
Q. Do 5-key games give out different prizes than 2-key games?
A. Mostly yes. If you win a 5-key game, you get a gold key. If you win a 2-key game, you get a lead key. The prizes obtained from those keys are a different story.
Winning a...
5-key game = gold key
4-key game = silver key
3-key game = bronze key
2-key game = lead key
Q. How do I get gold keys?
A. You must win a 5-key game.
Q. How do I redeem keys?
A. Go to the vault (http://www.neopets.com/keyquest/vault/) and click on the glowing doors available to you. Note that you can only redeem 10 keys per day.
Q. Do I still get a key when I lose?
A. YES. The only exception is with 2-key games. Otherwise, you DO get a key, and prizes, for playing. So don't quit. ;D

Q. Can you earn paint brushes from KQ?
A. Yes, they're very rare prizes only given out by gold keys, and only gold keys. This was clarified in Editorial #398.
Q. How many keys do I need before I get a paint brush?
A. Please read the above question. Getting a paint brush is COMPLETELY RANDOM. Some people get one after their first few keys, and others still do not have one after 500 keys. Please do not make boards complaining about this. There is always someone who 'has it worse' than you.
Q. What paint brushes can you get?
A. As of now: Biscuit, Camouflage, Cloud, Ghost, Glowing, Snow, Speckled, Starry, Striped, and Tyrannian paint brushes have been received. Please notify me if I am missing any from this list.
Q. If I play in experts, do I get better prizes than in newbies?
A. No, the prizes are the same.
Q. Do I get better prizes from 4-player games or 2-player games?
A. The prizes are the same. The number of players doesn't affect the prizes given out. Unless, of course, you are comparing different colored keys (gold, silver, bronze, lead).
Q. Does finishing with two or three extra keys give better prizes?
A. The number of keys earned in your game does not affect your prizes. If you get a gold key, you get gold key prizes. Likewise with the silver, bronze, and lead keys.
Q. If I play on different boards (Haunted Woods, Terror Mountain, etc.) do I get different prizes?
A. No, the prizes are the same throughout all the boards. However, according to the season or event, TNT may change the possible prizes given out by ALL of the boards.
Here is a question regarding the number of keys turned in at once in Editorial #392:
Q. Hi's! =) I heard somewhere that, if you save up lots of keys and use them all at once, then the prizes will be better. I have no idea if that's true, but if it is I'd like to pose a hypothetical question. Let's say two people, um.... Sandy and Nick, play 5-key 2-player Key Quest together a lot. If Nick lets Sandy win all the games to get all the gold keys so that the prizes will be better, and in return Sandy gives Nick half of the prizes, that's completely against the rules, right? It brings to mind the concept of item pooling, since Nick gave Sandy all the gold keys and Sandy could then easily refuse to give Nick his share of the prizes. The question of how much Key Quest players are allowed to plot together has been bugging me for some time, so thank you for considering my question. =) ~katofthekanto
A. Okay, first off: gathering a bunch of keys and turning them in at the same time does not affect your prizes at all. There's no difference between turning in one gold key at a time or turning in a dozen at once. Second, enough with the plotting guys! Just play the game, win if you win, lose if you lose. The hypothetical situation above is certainly not allowed.

Q. How come my piece got stuck in the door?A. Did you use the Mortog power-up on someone? Yes, this is a 'glitch' that causes you to get stuck. Be careful when using it. When you use the Mortog power-up, you begin your turn from the spot you land on. According to this principle, you CANNOT use the Mortog powerup to win the game, as you need to roll at least one space. Please remember that when playing.
This has been changed in the latest version. You can now use the Mortog power-up to win the game.
Q. How come someone without all the keys got into the door!?
A. This is another annoying glitch. We are not sure why, but the arrow options pops up anyways. This usually occurs after a player has obtained all the keys necessary. I nmost cases, a key is stolen and the player a) does not notice or b) decides to freeze the game anyways. Best to warn others NOT to do this.
Q. How come my gold key gave silver prizes?! :(
A. According to Snarkie's posts (of which I do not personally have screenies), TNT is currently working on the prize balancing scripts. She stated that this was not a glitch and requested that we do not hoard keys, but redeem our prizes. Snarkie also mentioned that TNT is trying to raise the maximum amount of keys one can redeem per day. Long story short, this is a glitch... but not! :O I would still continue to redeem keys. Don't worry, you're not alone.
edit: this does not seem to be occurring recently.
Q. How come my tokens are moving at super speed!?
A. This is a glitch that happens every once in a while. As stated in the question, you tokens movements will appear to appear much quicker. Unfortunately, the game will most likely end in a few turns or so.
Q. My mouse disappeared!
A. This usually occurs during some mini-games. We're not quite sure why, but right-clicking should alleviate the problem.
Q. Why didn't I receive a key after finishing a game?
A. First of all, you will not earn any keys if you lose a 2-key game. If this was not the case, try refreshing at the vault. There have been numerous reports on the vault's hiccups. If all else fails, submitting a bug report to TNT may help.
Q. How come (insert glitch) keeps happening even though Keyquest is out of Beta!?
A. Well... ahem... I, personally, do not consider Keyquest to be compltely out of Beta. Please understand that this game is still under heavy development. Glitches and mishaps are bound to happen. If you have an issue not detailed on this page, feel free to neomail me and I will post it here. (I'm still working out how... but that's a different story...)

Q. Is there an official page of KQ rules?
A. No, there is not. The questions in this section are based off of TNT's responses on the boards and in numerous editorials. The editorial is continually used to clarify rules. In KQ's case, it is the only place that states rules of any kind. (Save for the "no foul language" and "don't give out personal information" whenever free chat rolls out) There have been instances when staff members (Snarkie, etc.) have clarified rules on the boards. Hopefully, this section will outline the basic rules thus far. Please abide by them, and feel free to neomail me if you are unclear on any of these issues. I am not TNT, but I will try the best I can in clarifying these editorials.
Q. What are alternates? Are they okay to do?
A. Alternates are where two people take turns winning. TNT has stated that this is not allowed in Editorial #364. They have also clarified this in Editorial #392.
Q. Are games where both players would play till they both get a certain amount of nps then finish the game allowed?
A. To the extent of my knowledge, TNT has not stated anything about this. There were many boards advertising 5k games and such. I'm not aware of anyone frozen/suspended because of that. I would advise you to be cautious, however.
Q. Can we play Keyquest on our sides?
A. This would be a definite no. We are strictly prohibited from playing games and earning neopoints on our side accounts. KQ constitutes as a game and NP maker... see the connection? This question was answered in Editorial #354.
Q. Are people allowed to give out token codes?
A. Yes, as long as they are not asking for anything (such as NP, items, etc.) in return. This issue was addressed in Editorial #375.
Q. Is it cheating if someone skips their turn after a giant lint ball is used on them?
A. Despite being a valuable 'strategy', this is abusing the game. Snarkie posted this on the boards. {screenie} It's rather annoying and is, in fact, cheating.
This has also been addressed in Editorial #371:
Q. In Key Quest, is it considered cheating or strategy to not take your turn so that the power-up another player played on you will not work? I think it's cheating. So, Great Gods of Neopia, is it strategy or cheating? There are some out there who think it's strategy (or at least use that as an excuse). ~copper316
A. This is considered cheating; it is not strategy. Please avoid not taking your turn to get an advantage. We are working on fixing this.
![]()
If you wouldn't try to pull it over on someone
you're sitting down playing a board game with,
don't try it in Key Quest.
For even further clarification from Editorial #378:
Q. Hi, TNT. I've been lurking on the Key Quest Board and have seen quite a few debates about whether or not skipping your turn when a GLB is played against you is cheating. I know there shouldn't be any debate about it, since you guys have already stated it IS cheating. My question is, is it possible to put this in the Key Quest FAQ? A lot of people don't read the Editorial (:O), and some people even seem to think that something being posted in the Editorial doesn't make it a real rule. I think doing this would (hopefully) clear up the issue a little. Who knows about those cheaters, though... *shakes head* ~theabsolutionbunny
A. We'll talk to the folks in charge of Key Quest and ask if they will add it. Please let doubters on the board understand that the Editorial is often used to help clarify the rules and the spirit of those rules, and unless we later amend something we've said, please consider it part of the rules. ![]()
Quitters
Q. Is quitting a game considered cheating?
A. There has been much controversy regarding this issue. It is mostly agreed that doing such makes you a poor sport. However, according to this FAQ question, one can say that TNT condemns quitting as cheating. They have not officially stated anything on this matter. No measures or punishments been instituted against quitters. We can only wait and see.
Q. UGH! Someone quit on me! When will TNT make it so they get punished?
A. TNT is working on a way to make it so that quitters will get what they deserve. However, this will time as they much devise a way to distinguish quitters from people with computer issues.
Please read this editorial question:
Q. Dear TNT (whom I love), please, please, please do something about the sore losers who play Key Quest. You see, it's very irritating to play a game and be only a few spaces away from winning, only to have your opponent quit just because they're not in first place. When they quit we don't get our prizes, and basically they've wasted precious time that we could've spent feeding our Neopets, following the rules, and obeying TNT. LOL. 0:-) So anyway, I think it would be mega-cool if you could have some sort of reimbursement for us players who play the game until the end. I came prepared with a few options. *Clears throat and whips out an endless scroll* 1.) When the person ends the game they get no reward whatsoever, but the other player(s) can either continue playing or get their prizes. 2.) BAN PEOPLE FROM LEAVING, OR THEY'LL BE THROWN TO THE SNOWAGER. 3.) Split the Neopoints from the leaving player equally amongst their opponent(s). 4.) Block them from playing Key Quest for an hour. ~[username removed]
A. Remember that the game is in beta and we're testing the servers, so most players are not leaving the game on purpose. ;) Don't hold it against them! There probably are players who leave on purpose, though, and they're pretty silly for doing so. They would still receive Neopoints and keys even if they lost, so they're missing out by not staying. We realise this probably doesn't do much to console you, though.
Therefore, there is a feature planned that will help deter those who intentionally leave the game just because they're losing, but it won't be included until the game goes live. We don't want those players who are being booted from the game unintentionally to suffer any consequences. We're afraid you'll just have to bare with it until then.
Also, thank you very much for the ideas, but we can't award the remaining player(s) a prize should the other(s) leave. That would just entice people to cheat (by having other players leave intentionally so those remaining could earn more rewards) and we can't have that.

Good sportsmanship is the *key* to winning!
Q. Can we post usernames of people who 'quit' on the boards!?
A. NO. NO. NO. Please do NOT immediately rush over to the boards and create a board whining about a certain player. Posting their username is HARASSMENT since you do not have proof they quit. Please keep in mind that most players are glitched out, not quitting.
Screenie proof from the boards:

Thanks Devidein!
TNT also answered this question in Editorial #429:
Q. Hi TNT, I love to play Key Quest, but unfortunately I run into a lot of players who quit when you're about to win. I generally ignore it, but several people have mentioned Neomailing the person or sending them a Pile of Dung. Is this allowed? ~aquamarine8402
A. Although quitters can be frustrating, sending them a Pile of Dung, posting their name on a board, or sending them a mean Neomail is considered harassment (and therefore a warnable offence). If you would like to report a user, please fill out the form located here and we will be happy to look into it for you without the use of a Dung Catapult. ;)
Q: Well... then... why not just award the other person with the key they deserve?!
A: Unfortunately, that can be easily exploited. :( If you would like to delve in a thorough discussion on this, feel free to neomail me.
Q: So, is there any way to prevent people from quitting?
A: As of now, there is nothing we can do. I would recommend playing with your neofriends. However, I have heard some things around the boards. Sending the preset message "Don't give up!" means that you are not a quitter. If your opponent replies positively, it also means that they will not quit. It's worth giving a shot.
I also recommend writing down your opponent's usernames so you can neomail them afterwards. Sometimes, it may really be a glitch on their end. I do this quickly by pressing 'print screen' and pasting the image somewhere.
